Should the Fourth of July be banned in America? It is worthy of debate as to whether our nation deserves to celebrate the Fourth of July. That, instead of stuffing our faces with hot dogs and wasting money which could otherwise go to social services on fireworks, we should be atoning for the many, many sins of our nation.
"World Day" could be a new day of atonement, to replace the Fourth of July. On this day we eat tofu (no meats), use no air conditioning, and not use our vehicles. Actually, I could foresee "World Month", in which Americans make formal, widely publicized apologies to the indigenous peoples of our continent, and to all those around the world for our transgressions.

Should the US become a Muslim nation and consent to Sharia law? Before you dismiss the notion out of hand, read on. It may have more benefits than you realize:
McBush have promoted the idea of a "war on terror", which has cost our nation untold trillions of dollars and lives. Bin Laden has offered an olive branch which would make this "war" unnecessary and irrelevant:
If the U.S. and its allies would accept Islam as the official state religion, and convert en masse to Sharia law, al Qaeda will discontinue any terrorist plots against us. So here is the ultimate question: would it be worth it to take bin Laden up on his compromise?

In a conversation recently, I mentioned as an aside what a great president George Bush has been and my friend was surprised. I was surprised that he was surprised.
I generally don't write blogs about the manifestly obvious, but, yes, the man responsible for keeping Americans safe from another terrorist attack on American soil for nearly seven years now will go down in history as one of America's greatest presidents.

A 269-269 Electoral College tie in this year's election is entirely possible. Here's all it takes:
Obama picks up CO, IA, and NM. McCain picks up NH. All other Bush/Kerry states remain the same.
Ergo: 269-269.
Goodness, could you imagine an election being thrown into the House of Representatives? (When was the last time that happened? 1824?) Each state gets ONE vote based on its Congressional delegation's decision, as of the current delegation -- before the new Congress is sworn in. Wow!

At the risk of going out on a long, thin limb, I am predicting that Sen. John McCain will win this general election in landslide fashion. Chief Justice John Roberts will swear in the Arizona senator as the nation's 44th president in January 2009.
Bank on it. But how?
Well, it won't be without twists and turns. First, expect the general election polls -- which are currently virtually even -- to give Obama a bounce once he finally, painfully, captures the Dem. nomination from Hillary. This artificial bounce, of roughly 8-to-10 points, will last through the Democrat convention in Denver. Shortly after that, this pseudo-lead will pop like a balloon.

Will the Clintons endorse Obama? Will they make convention speeches advocating his election? How enthusiastic will they be?
We all know Bill and Al had something of a falling out in 2000, and Bill offered only tepid support for his VP (which may have cost Algore the election).
Will the same thing happen in '08?

What if Clinton wins popular vote amongst Dem primaries & caucuses, but loses nomination?
Last I heard, though Urkel has nudged ahead of Hillary in total delegates, she still had more popular votes. The reason is that Urkel keeps winning small, limited-participation caucuses, whereas Hillary wins large states with wider turnout. (And not to mention FL & MI.)
It's no secret that I want to run against Urkel, who'd be easier to beat, rather than HRC.

Are you offended by all the references to Valentine's Day? Shouldn't it instead be, "Happy Holidays?" After all, Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, President's Day, and Ash Wednesday occur this time of year.
In December we said "Happy Holidays", in order not to offend anyone. Why then insult people who may not celebrate one of February's holidays?
