It's called "Earth Hour" and it is intended to show us polluting, hydro-carbon addicted mortals the morally superior, Gaia-supported lifestyle of sitting around a peat fire in a mud hut in the dark after a hard day of root and berry collection, or something like that:
"The organisers will say never mind, this was about raising awareness (although not of raising awareness of the facts). But here’s the awareness it should raise: how difficult it is to get even a tiny cut in just electricity use for one lousy hour, in a country responsible for just 1.5 per cent of the world’s emissions.

If we were under the impression that our current administration was somehow "free-market" oriented, please look again:

The US Federal Reserve is examining the Nordic bank nationalisations of the 1990s as a possible interim solution to the US financial crisis.

Norway ensured that shareholders of insolvent lenders received nothing and the senior management was entirely purged. Two of the country's top four banks - Christiania Bank and Fokus - were seized by force majeure.

Deep breath everyone...it's going to be a long, long day and night.
WV held a state convention. Not a primary, not a caucus. This is the decision of the state party. Those were the rules. All candidates who participated and sent delegates agreed to participate and abide by those rules. The convention rules expressly called for a second vote in the event that one candidate couldn't secure an outright majority. The notion that this was some type of evil, under-handed, nefarious scheme to derail your candidate is simply embarrassing. Please stop whining.

Posted at 3:01pm on Feb. 5, 2008 Don't Trust California's Exit Polls....
By darwinianlurch
Exit polls are likely to be pretty off tonight..
http://www.slate.com/id/2175496
"California has issued 5.5 million absentee ballots for today's primary, reaching more than one-third of the 15.7 million total voters registered in the state. As of yesterday, 3 million ballots had already been returned, and state officials expect about 75 percent of the ballots to be returned by the close of polls—that's 4.125 million people who voted without pulling a lever."

I've seen a lot of postings indicating that if candidate x doesn't win state y, than that candidate should drop out. This is nonsense, as this campaign is unlike any other.
1. No Momentum: Huckabee's win in IA didn't help him in NH. McCain's win in NH didn't help him in MI (although it did help his standings in the national polls). Romney's win in MI was so unhelpful he had to quietly slink away from SC earlier this week. McCain's win in SC is not going to give him a bounce in FL. Each state seems to be giving the voters of the previous state the 1-fingered salute.

"I'm writing to apologize to you and your family personally for the un-called-for comments I made at a recent Clinton event," Johnson said in a statement. "In my zeal to support Senator Clinton, I made some very inappropriate remarks for which I am truly sorry. I hope that you will accept this apology. Good luck on the campaign trail."

Although it is early yet, and anything can happen as we have seen over the last two weeks, for Guliani's sake I hope his 'firewall' in FL. is strong.

This was done almost 7 months ago, when the immigration debate got really hot and heavy:
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=OWQzNTNmMjAxMTMwNmFjNmVlMjhkOTZjNTd...
"As the American people, elected officials, and commentators reflect on the heated immigration debate that came to a temporary close in the Senate this week many will ask, and have asked, why U.S. Senator John McCain (R., Ariz.) staked out a position that may, in retrospect, be seen as devastating to his presidential ambitions. I hope the American people, at least, step back from the obsessive play-by-play pre-season election analysis and reflect on Senator McCain’s actions for what I believe they were: One of the purest examples of political courage seen in Washington in a very, very long time."

Mixing in praise for McCain on Iraq, and then muddling the attack by grouping in Guliani and Huckabee and soft-soap on immigration. If that's an attack, sign me up.
