By OldNewEngland

There's been a lot of talk about how "conservatism never loses", and that the GOP does best when pushing a solid right-wing candidate. I've seen sentiments along these lines throughout RedState, Townhall, and National Review. It's become something of a talking point within the establishment.

Too bad it isn't true.

To claim conservatism never loses is absurd at best. Unless, of course, you're considering Eisenhower, Nixon, and both Bushes to be "conservative." Of those four, Dubya may be the most conservative, yet even under his watch we've seen a massive expansion of non-defense spending, the federalization of schooling, and a push for lax immigration policies. Real right wing, huh?
