Posted at 4:23pm on Jul. 8, 2008 McCain's new ad

By Caiwyn

A while back I wrote a detailed blog entry about why I was excited to vote for John McCain. His new ad sums it all up in just sixty seconds:

I almost feel sorry for Barack Obama. He's trying so hard to keep people from realizing how much tougher a fighter Hillary is, how much more her candidacy can withstand. But his spiritual mentor of 20 years isn't going quietly.

Wright's comments yesterday have even, finally, earned criticism from the left. When even Andrew Sullivan (who, according to Christopher Hitchens, "really wants to have Barack Obama's f***ing child") finds himself repulsed, you know it's time to do damage control.

Posted at 10:03am on Mar. 19, 2008 Obama is not the man I thought he was

By Caiwyn

You would think that, as a McCain supporter, I would be reveling in this Jeremiah Wright business. But I'm not. I'm terribly disappointed. I really believed that, even if McCain lost to Obama, the silver lining of an Obama presidency would be a positive change in race relations in this country. I admired his explicit rejection of identity politics, and his positive approach to the racial divide. I considered him a role model in that regard (although I took note when his supporters failed to follow his example), even though I disagreed with his actual policies.

By Caiwyn

Hah-vahd sociology professor Orlando Patterson accuses Hillary of racism. Her 3 a.m. ad portrays a white woman and is therefore akin to Birth Of A Nation, he says. Andrew Sullivan agrees.

So much for the politics of hope and change.

By Caiwyn

Check it out: Every single story by CNN about Republican Congressman Rick Renzi's indictment lists his party affiliation in the very first sentence.

But the article on Democratic Governor Eliot Spitzer's involvement with a prostitution ring doesn't mention his party affiliation until the second-to-last sentence.

Posted at 2:05pm on Mar. 7, 2008 Ron Paul calls it quits

By Caiwyn

CNN has the scoop. Ron Paul is winding down his campaign today.

I just wanted to say that I have a lot of respect a soft spot for Ron Paul. I know a lot of people don't care for him, and I certainly don't agree with him re: Iraq. But as a Republican who's fighting the system that has saddled us with massive overspending, he does one thing better than anyone else: he attracts young people to the cause of limited government.

Posted at 3:20pm on Mar. 4, 2008 I am now a registered Republican

By Caiwyn

As of this morning, I am a registered Republican. I've never voted in a primary, and though I consider myself a conservative (albeit a libertarian-minded conservative), I have never actually voted for a Republican presidential candidate. But this year is different. Today, I voted in the Republican primary for John McCain.

A lot of people around these parts express their support for McCain, but it is always hedged with some form of disappointment. Let me tell you, folks, I am excited about John McCain.

Posted at 9:04pm on Mar. 3, 2008 Encounter with an Obama supporter

By Caiwyn

My wife and I were lounging about the living room yesterday when the doorbell rang. I answered it and found a nice fellow wearing an Obama button. My wife joined me at the door as he explained he was canvassing the area to drum up support for his candidate in the primary.

Almost apologetically, my wife said, "Oh, we're, uh... we're Republicans." Not exactly true because we're not registered members of any party, but we're both McCain supporters, so I smiled, and said, "Sorry, man, we're on the McCain train."

Posted at 10:32pm on Feb. 22, 2008 Backfire

By Caiwyn

I'm sure I'm not the only one reminded of this quote:

"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." - Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, referring to the bombing of Pearl Harbor

The New York Times story has backfired magnificently. This is the single biggest fundraising effort for the McCain campaign to date, as well it should be.

Posted at 1:14pm on Feb. 21, 2008 It's time to admit "the liberal media" is not a paranoid right-wing construct

By Caiwyn

This will be my first post on RedState.com. Today's events have convinced me to join the site. Full disclosure: I have been a McCain supporter since the beginning of this political season, and I have donated to his campaign. That said, the 2008 presidential election will be the first time in my life that I will be voting for a Republican, so take that as you will.

I was aware, growing up, of the accusations of liberal bias in the mainstream media by right-wing pundits; my mom used to listen to Rush Limbaugh, and I heard the argument extensively. I believed it then, but as I grew up I began to view such claims as exaggerated. Maybe a little paranoid.
