Posted at 10:16pm on Jul. 9, 2008 No "Honor" In Father Killing Daughter

By ICRJCalvin

Chaudhry Rashad was so outraged at his daughter, Sandela Kanwal, and her plans for divorce that he strangled the 25-year-old woman. This "honor killing" took place over the weekend in Clayton County, Georgia. Rashad told police that he killed his daughter as a matter of honor, because he felt her plans for divorce would have disgraced the family.

The victim had been forced into an arranged marriage and had not seen her husband for months. One local Muslim leader said the father murdered the daughter because he was depressed - but, according to the United Nations Population Fund, at least 5,000 women are victims of "honor murders" each year.

Posted at 1:35pm on Jul. 4, 2008 Jesse Helms: The Death Of A Patriot

By ICRJCalvin

Shortly after Jesse Helms was elected as a US Senator from North Carolina in 1972, a group of about 200 Republican and Democratic supporters were invited to have dinner with him in Raleigh. Upon his being introduced to speak, we gave Senator Helms a thunderous standing ovation. He responded in typical Jesse “manner” by saying, “There are only two reasons an audience gives a speaker a standing ovation at the beginning of his speech: One; they want to show appreciation to the speaker now because they don’t know if they will feel like it by the end of the speech. Two; they want to take an opportunity to stand and straighten their underwear. I noticed several people doing the latter.”

By ICRJCalvin

For one who was born and grew up in the small towns of the Midwest, there is a special kind of nostalgia about the Fourth of July.

By ICRJCalvin

The U.N.'s chief nuclear inspector, Mohamed El-Baradei, recently told Al-Arabiya television that Iran could have a nuclear weapon in as little as six months. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in possession of nuclear weapons is not a pretty picture I want to think about. Ahmadinejad's particular form of radical Islam actually welcomes an apocalyptic war with the world. He believes in an Islamic messiah. His messiah is the Mahdi or 12th Imam. This messiah comes to rid the world of infidels after a cataclysmic confrontation with the West.

Posted at 7:56pm on Jun. 27, 2008 The Politics Of Rising Gas Prices: Do You Really Want To Lower The Price Of Gas?

By ICRJCalvin

Now that gas is priced at more than $4 a gallon, it is beginning to cause wallet pain in many areas other than the gas pump. Many businesses are also raising the prices of their various services and products because of rising fuel costs. The entire transportation and airline industry are being impacted. It is really no wonder that many people are complaining about the oil companies, especially when they hear reports of oil and gas companies making profits of $86.5 billion last year.

Posted at 1:59pm on Jun. 19, 2008 What’s Wrong With Nationalizing Oil Companies?

By ICRJCalvin

President Bush’s speech encouraging Congress to lift the ban on off-shore drilling in order to make America more economically secure and independent was a welcome antidote to his recent silence on this topic. The point is that we must begin the process of exploration and drilling now if we want to prevent the reduction of oil available and even higher gas prices in the future.

How did Congress respond? Representative Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), who is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and one of the most-ardent opponents of off-shore drilling, declared – with support from his democratic colleagues – that “We [the government] should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market.” In effect, he is saying that the oil companies should be nationalized.

Posted at 12:00pm on Jun. 17, 2008 Video Portrays Women Democrats As Sluts

By ICRJCalvin

TruthThroughAction.org makes movies to support the Democratic Party. Their latest production title, “Blue Balled,” is as sleazy as its name implies. A young man and woman meet at a bar and end up in his bedroom. While searching for a condom, she sees a photo of John McCain on the guy’s nightstand.

She quickly puts on her clothes and runs. On the sidewalk she spills her bag and a campaign button falls on the sidewalk which says, “I only sleep with Democrats.” She looks up to see a man with a Democratic pin on his lapel. Your guess is as good as mine concerning the outcome.

Posted at 7:49am on Jun. 6, 2008 Ronald Reagan’s D-Day Anniversary Speech

By ICRJCalvin

Ronald Reagan always appreciated the dedication of our men and women in uniform. He often spoke eloquently of their service and sacrifice. On the 40th anniversary of the D-Day invasion he stood on the beaches of Normandy to commemorate that anniversary with a speech at Pointe du Hoc, France. This was the site where U.S. Rangers battled to reclaim Europe from fascism.

“Forty summers have passed since the battle that you fought here. You were young the day you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before you. Yet, you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled you to put aside the instinct for self-preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith and belief; it was loyalty and love.

Posted at 9:40am on May 6, 2008 McCain To Speak At La Raza Conference

By ICRJCalvin

Republican candidate for President, John McCain, will speak at the annual conference of the National Council of La Raza (“The Race”). La Raza is known as a Hispanic, open-borders, anti-immigration enforcement, advocacy and lobbying group. The La Raza Annual Convention will be held in San Diego on July 14, 2008.

What does John McCain have in common with La Raza which hates conservatives for defeating the illegal immigrant amnesty bill? La Raza portrays critics of illegal immigration and open-borders as racist. Yet, it is an ethnic separatist group and they call themselves “The Race.” What is wrong with this picture?
