Our choices...Lets do our best with what we have.

We are in charge...never let them forget it.

"A daydream is a meal at which images are eaten. Some of us are gourmets, some gourmands, and a good many take their images precooked out of a can and swallow them down whole, absent-mindedly and with little relish."

W. H. Auden
1907-1973, Anglo-American Poet

Update...shhhh...I put this up trying for the last blog...It's late now and I'm waiting to see if somebody snakes me...Neil you better hurry up and change over so I can be the last one.

By speciallist

"The National War Powers Commission is set to announce this morning that it "has unanimously concluded after a year of study that the law purporting to govern the decision to engage in war — the 1973 War Powers Resolution — should be replaced by a new law that would, except for emergencies, require the president and Congressional leaders to discuss the matter before going to war."

Geez...Dont they already do that. Bush did not make the decision himself!

By speciallist

I found this Gem while foraging through the recent comments last night...We'll just give this guy the name Quitter....

"If we could buy peace, I would.
If we could buy the end of hunger, I would.
If we could buy the end of evil, I would.
Since we can't do any of the above, I wouldn't waste money on any of the above."

Au contraire...If your talking about 'We the People'...We can do all those things and more. We have been wasting..spending money on Peace, World Hunger and fighting Evil for many many decades. And 'we' have been very successful at saving many lives.

If we could buy peace, I would...Don't worry, we are...

Buying Peace through Superior Firepower...and some Old friends

On March 31st, 10,000 special visitors checked out the latest in military hardware at the biannual Special Operations Forces Exhibition (SOFEX) in Amman, Jordan. SOFEX is the largest event of its kind in the Middle East. 300 exhibitors from 60 countries packed the convention hall at the King Abdullah I Airbase.

SOFEX provides a great opportunity for Jordan to show off the country’s latest counterterrorism tactics. King Abdullah II and the organizers are already making plans for SOFEX 2010.

Remarks by Our own Ambassador Hale at the start of the SOFEX Convention 2008...

"Our increasing presence at the exhibition demonstrates our the strength of the partnership with our Jordanian hosts and friends. This growing participation shows how important SOFEX in Amman is to our American companies and their leaders – many of whom are with us here tonight.

Our role in this years SOFEX reminds us of the strong relations, and common values and interests, which we and Jordan have. Tonight we are highlighting our business and security ties. Tomorrow, I will have the honor of marking our partnership in healthcare by opening a joint hospital renovation project in the Jordan valley. It is these kinds of partnerships that form the cornerstone of our bilateral relationship, and our personal friendships.

We are united partners in securing peace in this region and globally. We are determined to stand together to defeat terrorism, which threatens us all. And we are committed to increasing the interoperability between our two militaries, and particularly between our special operations forces, so that we may better ensure success in those two key strategic areas."

These Jordanian women test out their new purchase...I'd hate to be the Jihadis that show up at their house one night.

The Supreme Court of the United States effectively granted rights, that only Americans should have, to terrorists.

I can see it now. It will all start with the ACLU attorneys putting America on trial. Our justice system will be tried, as well as our right to self-defense. Our military will be declared a criminal enterprise. Soldiers who have not yet been blown up by roadside bombs will be reduced to nothing more than un-schooled, dirt poor, hate mongers. They will be referred to as a gang of thugs under the control of the Bush-Chaney regime, doing the dirty work of Big Oil and the Neo-cons. Capitalism will be to blame. Those who want to murder Americans will be called freedom fighters. America will be called guilty and some among us will stand and cheer.

In the good old days. We demanded unconditional surrender. The enemy accepted the terms, and the victor imposed them. In today's enlightened world, America surrenders.

First of all...Next time some joker talks about torture, laugh in their face.

Is this their definition of Torture?

Each prisoner has been given:
US army standard-issue 2cm-thick foam sleeping mat, one blanket, two buckets, a one quart canteen
Two orange boiler suits, one pair flip-flops
Two bath towels, one for washing, one for use as a prayer mat
A washcloth, toothpaste, soap, shampoo
A copy of the Koran

Prisoners are served three meals a day - all "culturally appropriate":
Breakfast - typically bread, cream cheese, an orange, a pastry, a roll, a bottle of water
Lunch - typically a box of cereal, two cereal bars, a packet of peanuts, one packet crisps, one packet raisins, a bottle of water
Evening meal - typically white rice, red beans, a banana, bread, a bottle of water.

The detainees' daily routine:
Breakfast followed by shower opportunity and personal time
Doctor visits to address any medical issues
Lunch followed by shower opportunity and personal time
Exercise period
Mail call - pens and paper are provided for limited time, letters may be written under supervision, all pens are collected afterwards
Dinner followed by shower opportunity

Typical weather:
Sunny with temperatures ranging from Warm at night to around Warm during the day..OK enough with the Time Share sales pitch...

Al Qaeda is falling apart, We need the Pentagon's terrorist tribunals to crush their spirit.

The prisoners, including, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, were called to answer before a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on murder, conspiracy and terrorism charges arising from the deaths of 2,973 people at New York's World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and in the Pennsylvania field where one of the airliners hijacked that day crashed.

The Guantanamo tribunals are a long time coming. Contrary to what the MSM reports, military defense lawyers have had adequate access to their clients and time to prepare a reasonable defense. The pool of reporters is allowed to cover the proceedings from behind a glass partition and listen over a sound system with a 20-second delay, to prevent the media from hearing any national security secret blurted out during the testimony.

The men arraigned Thursday all face execution if convicted. But they should not be Executed.

Thursday's arraignment before the tribunal was for the five Al Qaeda members accused of planning and assisting the 9/11 terrorist atrocities.

The military tribunal's job is to NOT assist the loathsome defendants in achieving exactly what they desire, Martyrdom.

Remember that number and that terrible day.

The consolations of legal justice can never be offered to the wounded and the grieving. And they must not be handed to the terrorists.

When it comes to the handling of these cases, the tribunals must be very careful not to give these particular terrorists even the Aura of martyrdom.

Mohammed has confessed his responsibility for 9/11 during an earlier proceeding: "I was responsible for the 9/11 operation from A to Z." He also claimed he personally murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, "I decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew, Daniel Pearl." Lets lock these dudes up and let them Rot. But keep them ALIVE.

The Pentagon is doing the right thing by not bringing him and his accomplices to trial in an ordinary American criminal court. The only way Mohammed and his comrades would be in a position to challenge the legality of the proceedings against them would be in the court of public opinion. That would not only give them rights they don't deserve, but it would be a complete circus.

It's hard to imagine the sentence of death coming at a worse time. It may very well make them martyrs in the eyes of marginalized young men in fanatic-infested backwaters across the Islamic world.

The chance to portray the Guantanamo defendants as martyrs is just the lifeline Al Qaeda needs at the moment.

Even though Al Qaeda continues to enjoy very limited success in Iraq and a bit of freedom of action in Pakistan's tribal areas, the organization is being torn apart by an ideological civil war. They are ripe for destruction.

20 years ago Sayyed Imam Sharif wrote two books that are essentially the blueprint for what we've come to call jihadism, and he formerly led the murderous Egyptian terrorist group Al Jihad. Al Qaeda's big guns always have been Egyptian. Sayyed was the Koranic prodigy turned Islamic militant and comrade in arms to the Egyptian Ayman Zawahiri and the Saudi Osama bin Laden.

From the Egyptian prison where he's been since shortly after 9/11, he's now at the center of a movement that renounces violence as an instrument of reform.

In his latest book called "Rationalizing Jihad in Egypt and the World" he essentially repudiates all Islamic justifications for Al Qaeda's actions. He even called 9/11 "a catastrophe for Muslims." These views have rocked the jihadist world and forced Zawahiri, as Al Qaeda's chief spokesman, on the defensive.

It's clear that radical Islam is confronting a rebellion within its ranks, one that Zawahiri and the leaders of Al Qaeda are poorly equipped to respond to.

We must kick them while they are down. We need to be Two steps ahead. We need to get into the heads of the people who think death is good and not give them their wish. The Pentagon needs to concentrate on one of the bigger Islamic terrorist threats, young Islamists who will find themselves inspired if we execute Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and his accomplices.

We need to keep Club Gitmo open Indefinitely..."No virgins for you"...Soup Nazi

John Edwards didn't endorse when he pulled out of the presidential race in January....Or before the crucial Super Tuesday primaries...Or before voters in his home state of North Carolina went to the polls last week.

But the former North Carolina senator on Wednesday endorsed Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, saying the party must unite for "the fight of our lives."

"There is one man who knows and understands that this is a time for bold leadership," said Edwards, standing next to Obama at a rally in Grand Rapids, Mich. "That man is Barack Obama."
