By hoosierteacher

A private mint in Indiana was raided by federal agents earlier this week for creating and distributing money illegaly. The coins produced (including "inflation proof" copper and silver) have the likeness of Ron Paul on them.

The Ron Paul campaign denies any involvement, but it seems hard to believe Paul might have been totaly unaware. Just another Ron Paul bizzare event. The mint (like Ron Paul) buys into some of the conspiracy theories surrounding the US Federal Reserve.

Posted at 3:14pm on Nov. 5, 2007 Put up or.... or don't put up (a challenge)

By hoosierteacher

(It's the nicest way I could think to word the title).

There's clearly been a lot of anger about "having to vote" or "not having to vote" on the winner of a party's primary. The tired arguments of both sides are well articulated (if a little edgy) over at the recommended "What do you mean, I HAVE to vote for Rudy".

So let's see how people REALLY feel.

I've been a registered republican for all of my voting life. I've volunteered and been paid by campaigns, from local up to a US senatorial campaign. I've been a proud RedState member for 2 years and 48 weeks. I've been in the trenches for my party, not because I love the cute little elephant but because I am a conservative. My conservatism stems from my Christian world view and my political belief in federalism. I've been active for nearly 25 years.

Posted at 5:12pm on Nov. 3, 2007 A salute to Sen. Feinstein (no, really)

By hoosierteacher

After giving her support to Judge Southwick to get him out of committee recently (against the wishes of her far left supporters), Sen. Feinstein has again stood on principle (against her left wing supporters) to support another deserving nominee.

Judge Mukasey is the current man up for the Atty Gen position to replace Gonzales. Mukasey is being grilled by the left for his supposed support of torture and supposed views on waterboarding.

Posted at 4:41pm on Nov. 3, 2007 URGENT - breaking news in Pakistan

By hoosierteacher

Until more information comes in and someone can write a more detailed diary or front page story I have a flash message from the front page of Drudge. I am unable to get to a tv right now, so anyone who can fill in the blanks can jump in.

Pakistan in an emergency state

Drudge has front page stories detailing that the army has taken control of media centers (television/radio), that their presidnet has declared an emergency, but their supreme court has rejected it, and that phone lines are being cut.

Posted at 6:01am on Aug. 13, 2007 BREAKING: ROVE RESIGNS!!!!

By hoosierteacher

Yes, it looks like some lefty infiltrated RS or one of us wants a big title. But it's true.

Fox News is breaking that Rove is resigning, will announce later today, and will be effective Aug 31. The story came from a WSJ source who interviewed Rove, and the interview is to be released soon.

Rove apparently wanted to resign last year, but did nopt because of the change in congress and concerns with the ongoing conflict in Iraq. Rove and the president feel that now is a stable enough moment for Kar Rove to step down. Fox says he plans to return to Texas, and will not be continuing in an official capacity for the White House.

Posted at 6:35pm on Jul. 26, 2007 Tenured Ward Churchill Fired! Party at my place!

By hoosierteacher

Some time ago a little known professor (except to those of us who had the misfortune to be in his presence at CU Boulder) made the statement that 9/11 victims were "little Eichmans" whose work in the WTC led to the persecution of Moslems. The implication was that the victims deserved it.

The same lefty profesorial peers who stuck up for his "freedom of speech" and tenure have now (after a lengthy process) fired him. Setting aside the anti-American and wild conspiratal theories of this person, they nailed him on plagerizing, academic dishonesty, lying on his application, and more.

Posted at 6:06pm on Jul. 2, 2007 When is it in good taste to ask?

By hoosierteacher

Some time ago Sen. Tim Johnson, Democrat of South Dakota suffered a medical condition that left him unable to discharge his duties.

To the immense credit of RedState editors and the clear majority of the decent community here it was determined that the best course was to wish Sen. Johnson a speedy recovery, and not to sink to scheming a replacement with a GOP Governor at the helm. Much time has passed, and still their is no sign of Sen. Johnson.

Posted at 8:21am on Jun. 23, 2007 State of '08

By hoosierteacher

Sorry for the long absense. I've changed jobs recently and have had too many responsibilities to be with the people that matter to me, my family and my RedState family to name a couple. My pc has missed me, and I've rarely had a minute or two in the last few months. Good to see everyone again.

2008 is shaping up to be an exciting time. There are dozens of factors for political geeks such as me to be interested. Here's a few:

Posted at 6:07pm on Feb. 26, 2007 Rethinking the '08 field

By hoosierteacher

It is no secret that I am critical of the big three GOP candidates. Each of them has some major points against their conservative credentials. To wit:

Rudy is pro-choice, pro-gun control, and seen as questionable on family (ie homosexual marriage) issues. McCain, while anti-spending has a dismal pro-tax record, authored the anti 1st amendment voting reform fiasco, and was a member of the dreaded gang of 14. Romney has a history of shifting his views not once but several times back and forth on abortion, while voting for Dukakis and pushing a big government health plan in Mass. And to be frank, the more the minions of these three keep making pathetic justifications the worse they look.

But recently I have had to rethink one of those three. My reasons are below the fold...
