By Chad Dotson

Jim Gilmore, described by the AP as "Virginia's former tax-slashing Republican governor," has filed with the FEC to form an exploratory committee to run for President in 2008. Jim Riley has some advice for Gilmore and James Bowden says here that Gilmore can win. I remain skeptical.

Gilmore is candidate #6 to file with the FEC, after McCain, Romney, Brownback, Giuliani, and Tommy Thompson.

I'm not sure why anyone should care, but I'm a sucker for 2008 talk. Here are Chuck Todd's just-released 2008 presidential nomination rankings; if you are interested, Clinton and McCain are his front-runners.

Most interesting item is that Todd has Newt Gingrich ranked fourth on the Republican side.

I'm all for mocking celebrities when they open their mouths and say stupid things about science, but at least give me some celebrities that aren't so obscure. (Yes, I know it's the BBC, but still...)

Count me in, as well. And I barely know what a Wii is.

Yes, Cindy Sheehan probably made that descent ages ago. But at least let us note that Sheehan, worshipped by liberals everywhere, is now blaming the Iraq War on ... wait for it ... Gerald Ford!

John Hawkins has posted his list of the 20 biggest stories of 2006. Amazingly, Sandy Berger didn't do anything to make the list this year. In fact, all documents explaining exactly what Berger was doing in 2006 have been destroyed. With scissors. After being hidden beneath a construction trailer.

He's no Dennis Kucinich!

By Chad Dotson

Okay, this will surprise no one, but since Mark is talking about Mitt Romney, I thought I'd mention this. Robert Novak reports today that Illinois Sen. Barack Obama is in the 2008 race for President on the Democratic side:

Contrary to reports that Barack Obama is still trying to make up his mind on seeking the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, sources close to the first-term senator say he is unequivocally committed to making the race.

The word has spread through political circles that Obama's wife, Michelle, is resisting the campaign out of fear for her husband's physical safety as an African-American candidate for president. But an Obama insider dismissed that as a problem. ''We took care of that last summer,'' he told this column.

The most interesting portion of the Novak piece, however, is below the fold.

Yes.

Posted at 1:03am on Dec. 24, 2006 Ten second movie review

By Chad Dotson

Just saw "Rocky Balboa" and guess what? It was genuinely good. I read a review somewhere that said the latest installment in the not-yet-dead Rocky franchise was the best of any since the original. I was skeptical of that, and after seeing the film, I'm still not quite sure I agree with the sentiment.

But, darnit, it was certainly entertaining. The most surprising element to "Rocky Balboa" was that the whole movie was true to the original feel of Rocky. I can't believe I'm saying this, but kudos to Sylvester Stallone. Sly put together a movie that enhances the "Rocky" legacy, and I doubt very many thought that possible. I didn't.

Go see it.
