I can only assume that Massachusetts Governor Deval "Together We Can!" Patrick (D) is sending a candy-gram to his Empire State colleague right about now. Or perhaps a StripperGram would be more appropriate, eh?

Life, as we all know, is about choices - and the choice to get involved in politics is one where there are, as we also all know, opportunities for both euphoric highs and unthinkable lows. For conservatives deep behind enemy lines, we know all too well about those lows and really not all that much about those highs. In fact, the last true “high” in politics I can recall feeling was on the evening of November 5, 2002 – when I heard on the radio that Massachusetts State Treasurer Shannon O’Brien had conceded the Governor’s race to Mitt Romney.

Michael Graham has the 9 AM - Noon slot on WTKK in Boston. He's also a sometime contributor to NRO and his latest entry there sums up my feelings (aside from the fact that I quit drinking almost 2-years ago) on this evening perfectly.

Unspurprisingly, the US House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted to dump about $146B of other peoples' money into the economy in the name of Economic Stimulus™. The vote was 385-35.
Rumor has it that the mesaure may get stalled in the Senate - who seems to want to give more tax rebates to people who don't owe any federal taxes. So I wouldn't go making that downpayment on that 70-inch HighDef Plasma screen just yet, were I you.

I make no apologies for being spectacularly unimpressed with what passes for "straight talk" these days - and it's obviously no secret where my heart lies in this matter. But there was a question or two that came to me in all this ever-ramping knife-fight over a 9-month old interview - to wit...
Can anyone envision McCain attacking a Democrat in such a manner? For any circumstance? Ever?

Jose Padilla, once accused of plotting with al-Qaida to blow up a radioactive "dirty bomb," was sentenced Tuesday to 17 years and four months on terrorism conspiracy charges that don't mention those initial allegations.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present the next media-celebrity criminal - soon to rival Saint Mumia - Jose Padilla.

Bobby Fischer, the first American-born officially-recognized world champion of Chess, has died, the result of kidney failure after a long illness. He was 64.
Born in Chicago and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Fischer faced criminal charges in the United States for playing a 1992 rematch against Boris Spassky in Yugoslavia in defiance of international sanctions. In 2005, he moved to Iceland, a chess-mad nation and site of his greatest triumph.
As a champion, he used his eccentricities to unsettle opponents, but Fischer's reputation as a genius of chess was soon eclipsed, in the eyes of many, by his idiosyncrasies.

Mitt Romney, after a pair of pretty humiliating losses in Iowa and New Hampshire, went into Michigan - a state where the Romney name is pretty much gold - and won what looks to be a pretty comprehensive victory in the GOP primary (it's 39%-30%-16% with 62% reporting at 22:15 EST). So, he did what he had to do and now the campaign rolls into South Carolina (and to a much lesser extent Nevada) wiiiiiiiiiiiide open.
