Yesterday I attended Fred Thompson's "announcement tour" bus stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Event was held at the Marriott and an overflow crowd of over 300 attended. Before he took the stage, Fred was preceded by a short, but impressive film on his background "The Hunt For Fred November." Fred spoke to the Iowa faithful for about 30 minutes stressing his core conservative values. Afterward Fred mingled with the crowd, posing for photos, shaking hands, & signing autographs for about 20 minutes or so. I've seen all of the major 2008 GOP candidiates on the stump in the Hawkeye State & was impressed by the event & the turnout. Today I attended Sen. McCain's event in Cedar Falls, Iowa. About 400 attended with a good 80-90% of them being senior citizens. A free lunch at the PIPAC brings out lots of retired folk. McCain had the "tar baby #2" incident today. Won't go into too much detail but McCain had some of the strangest questions asked of him today. I will say the event lacked energy and the applause level was a bit on the weak side.

Gov. Mitt Romney drew an oveflow crowd of 300 Iowa activists for a luncheon event at Beck's Restauant in Waterloo, Iowa. The 2008 candidate spoke of "American Values" and stressed raising the bar for education. Romney emphasized his conservative views and highlighted his successful record in both the private and public sectors.
