Pennsylvania voted on their primary. Hillary "Raaaaaaoooooow" Clinton won 55-45% against Barack "Cling to guns and Religion" Obama. This could be a brokered convention this year. Clinton can't catch Obama without the superdelegates and Obama can't win without superdelgates. The best thing that can happen is for the two of them to continue to beat the hell out of them so bad that the base of the candidate stays home on election day.

By Republican Michigander

One term almost always used as an insult when it comes to firearms is "Fudd" or "Elmer Fudd." If you're too young to know who the wabbit hunter Elmer Fudd is, go to youtube and look up a couple of old Bugs Bunny cartoons there. "Shhhhhhhh, be vewwwy, vewwwy quiet; I'm hunting wabbits, heheheheheheh" Elmer isn't exactly known for his intelligence, but even poor Elmer can't catch a break.

Posted at 5:24pm on Jan. 9, 2008 Preview of Michigan 2008 Presidential Primary

By Republican Michigander

Game 4 of the primary season will be interesting. Besides it being my home state, there is much on the line here. Here's a scouting report.

First off, the democrats outside of Hillary Clinton, Dennis Kucinich, and Mike Gravel ought to be kicking themselves for their decision to take their names off the ballot. John Edwards needs the union voters. What state is more unionized than Michigan. Barack Obama needs the college towns and black voters. What better for him than Ann Arbor, Detroit, Southfield, and Flint? Bill Richardson could have taken advantage of the others not campaigning. For them, this is all Fubared. "Fouled" up beyond all recognition. Hillary isn't campaigning here, but her name is on the ballot at least. Unless "uncommitted" beats Hillary, I don't see anything outside of a win for Hillary on the 15th.

Posted at 4:17pm on Jan. 6, 2008 MI - Shooters Alliance for Firearms Rights PAC releases 2008 Presidential Primary ratings

By Republican Michigander

The Shooters Alliance for Firearms Rights (SAFR) PAC releases their ratings for the presidential primary. Nobody was endorsed at this time, but the candidates have their statements and records graded. While some Democrat candidates were not on the ballot, they were still graded. The usual ratings of acceptable, mixed, and unacceptable were used, but there were no endorsements. SAFR is a non-partisan group with members of both parties on the PAC, as well as the majority which is independent.

Posted at 1:43pm on Aug. 8, 2007 Michigan - Very tough Congressional seat defense on horizon (Knollenberg, CD9)

By Republican Michigander

Crossposted at http://republicanmichigander.blogspot.com

(I'm assuming Joe Knollenberg is running for re-election)

Former Lottery Chief and Granholm buddy Gary Peters is going to try and make his political comeback. This is going to be a very competitive race, and most likely the toughest defense for the GOP in this state outside of a couple of state rep districts. Some think Tim Walberg will have the tougest defense, but I think he's a lot safer than people think. Knollenberg is not safe at all.

By Republican Michigander

I can't make it there, but we need as many people at the capitol as possible to send a message to the big spenders and tax hikers out there. Between Jennifer "Matt Millen of Governors" Granholm and her services tax, Andy Dillon's energy tax, and Hopgood/DeRoche's (I still can't believe he proposed that) bipartisan gas tax turkey, we need to send a message to Lansing in a big way.

By Republican Michigander

Choice C for President
The April Fools joke on us is the attempted coronation by the media and establishment types of our next president about 3 months away from the Iowa Straw Poll, and 10 months before the first primary and caucuses.

If you listen to "conventional wisdom", the establishment, and "big media," the choices are as follows. If you are a Republican, "Maverick" John McCain, "America's Mayor" Rudy Giuliani, and Mitt Romney (more in Michigan) with occasional talk of Newt Gingrich (who hasn't declared). If you are a democrat, "The inevitable nominee" Hillary Clinton and "Rock star" Barack Obama, with occasional talk of John Edwards. As most know, I'm not sold on any of them. The other candidates supposedly "can't win." Ronald Reagan couldn't win either in 1980. For that matter, John Kerry was "the electable" candidate, as was Bob Dole for that matter.

Duncan Hunter visits Michigan
I was at the Duncan Hunter event in Troy Friday night. I'm still undecided, but this is a guy I can back if he gets some traction. His main issue is trade. He's the first presidential candidate since Pat Buchanan to run on trade as his main issue. Unlike Buchanan, Hunter has held elective office. Some of his platform and stances.

1. Fair trade. Stop cheating on trade and allowing the Chinese Government to sweep American products off the shelves. He stated that while the Chinese tax American goods (a double tax as American goods pay American taxes as well) coming into their country, they subsidize their good going to the US. He's going after Bush's Mexican trucks plan right now. Latest bill

Posted at 12:39pm on Feb. 11, 2007 Michigan GOP Convention Report

By Republican Michigander

This weekend, I was a delegate to the State GOP Convention in Grand Rapids. At this convention, the party chose its state committee members, district committee members, state chair, and vice chair positions. There weren't a lot of surprises at the State GOP Convention. The 8th District caucuses were uneventful, which is a good thing.

The big battle was for youth chair between Matt Hall and Trevor Pittsley. Matt was heavily backed by some of McCain's major backers. Pittsley is backed by many of Romney's major backers. There's a proxy war going on between John McCain's people and Mitt Romney's people. (For the record, I'm a free agent) That aside, neither have officially endorsed any candidate, and there were several overlaps. After several counts/possible vote flips in one particular district, and a close fight with some controversey, Hall won by 8 votes. That's part of convention politics at times. I think either one of them would do a good job for the party and was a fencesitter till it was vote time. Matt Hall did an excellent job at WMU. Trevor Pittsley did an excellent job for state party and also worked with the Teenage Republicans at one of their events. Unfortunately, the battle ended in the manner it did with the controversey. That said, Matt's a good guy and should do a good job for us. Congratulations to him.
