I have never believed in man-made global warming. At all. I never bought into any of the absolute hysteria about half the country being drowned under water as the oceans rose, or about a new ice age coming and killing hundreds of millions of people. I just shook my head, half laughing and half sad.
And it would have been fine, except then people wanted to make drastic, expensive changes to combat this fictional problem. The government decided to tell us how much mileage our cars needed to get, making cars and gas even more expensive -- and even regulate what kind of light bulbs we have to put in our homes, telling us, again, that we have to use the more expensive kind. There was a growing number of people that wanted us to sign a Kyoto-like treaty that would cost the US over $5 trillion and kill major sectors of our economy, costing hundreds of thousands of jobs. And that's just the beginning.

In a move hailed by pundits as brilliant, Barack Obama has released information on all of the earmarks he has requested in his three years as a Senator. This is supposedly a move to show that Obama is all about transparency in government and won't hold secrets from the American people - and supposedly is going to hurt Hillary Clinton because she is hiding worse earmarks than he has.
But I have to wonder, as everyone applauds the Savior of America for this move and continues to swoon over he-who-can-do-no-wrong, if there's not something that everyone is missing. I think Obama has just completed the biggest media coup in history with how he has framed this debate. After all, "She's worse on earmarks than I am" still means that you're bad on earmarks, doesn't it?

Fred Thompson has faced a lot of tough news over the last several weeks. First, the news that he had to push back his entry into the race from early July to mid July. Then it was from mid-July to August. Then August to September. Fred supporters said there was no way the rumors were true, until the Fred non-campaign verified them last week: he would not enter the race until early September, after Labor Day, leaving many supporters scratching their heads and wondering how they were supposed to recruit volunteers and finances for a guy who wasn't even going to start campaigning for another six weeks. Then the story comes out today from someone else inside the Thompson non-campaign, saying that it will most likely be mid- to late-September - and that "October isn't completely impossible."

I’ve got to be honest. I didn’t start caring about and following politics closely until 2000 - 7 years ago. Oh, I’m old enough to remember watching the 1996 campaign and election, but Bob Dole wasn’t exactly an inspiration to get into politics, and everyone knew Bill Clinton was going to win anyway. But maybe my youthfulness (at 27 years old) is a reason that I just can’t seem to see what other people see in Fred Thompson.

That would be Sheik Hussein al-Tamimi, the leader of one of the many tribes in Iraq, begging a reporter from the New York Sun to deliver that message back home in the United States.
The quote is in the middle of a story in the Sun that we can expect to be ignored by a majority of the MSM. Why? Because it presents great news about the recent troop surge and shift in the rules of engagement in Iraq. The story is headlined, "As Surge Begins To Take Hold, Tribal Leaders Turn on Qaeda."

Believe it or not, this article is not intended to endorse or attack any of the current candidates running in the 2008 election. You all know who my dog in this race is, but this piece is fully intended to be philosophical in nature and to remind us that our team needs us - all of us - if we even want to have a prayer of winning next year's general election.
During the 1960s and 70s, the conservative movement in America was all but pronounced dead. Democrats had advanced an aggressive left-wing agenda under Johnson (such as the War on Poverty and the Great Society) that indebted the country, both figuratively and literally, to liberal policies. Heading into the 1980s, Republicans had not had control of the Senate or the House since 1954, sometimes facing deficits of 23 seats or more in the Senate alone. Nixon had tarnished the Republican and the conservative name with the Watergate scandal. Americans identified themselves as Democrats more than Republicans by a 25% margin in many polls. The media and many Americans began asking if Republicans would ever be in power again. Conservatives, they said, had gone the way of the whigs.
But in the midst of certain permanent defeat, conservatives were handed two beautiful gifts. The first was the disastrous presidency of a peanut farmer from Georgia. But even one of the worst Presidents in modern history couldn't have turned the tide of five decades of history that seemed bent against conservatives. For that, we needed our second gift: an actor-turned politician from California.
Ronald Reagan. The Great Communicator. The Optimist. He is consistently ranked as one of the greatest Presidents this country has ever known by Americans of all stripes. But how did he manage to bring conservatives back into prominence in America again? I believe the resuscitation and empowerment of the conservative movement in America began with a single speech in which a massive philosophy shift was cast as a vision for the future: Reagan's 1977 CPAC speech.

For months, us political bloggers and nerds wondered how Rudy was going to finesse his pro-choice stance on abortion in order to win the GOP nomination. His support of publicly-funded abortions and for partial birth abortions was particularly troubling. Would he claim to have had a conversion on the subject? What would he do?
Well, so far in his early campaign speeches and Q&A sessions, he seems to be employing one of two techniques: the "Let's Not Talk About It" or the "Let's Fudge the Facts a Little".
