Posted at 4:34pm on Jun. 25, 2008 The end of the oil crisis
By Whacker77
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know there is a major oil crisis unfolding right in front of our eyes. Thanks to several factors, Americans are paying more than $4.00 a gallon for gasoline and oil sits some $25 above its inflation adjusted all-time record price. Not surprisingly, the US economy has all but ground to a halt.
For the past few weeks I have been hopeful that meaningful action would be taken by our government and oil producers across the world to bring down the price of oil. They've had several chances to dent the price, but each attempt has been weak or lacked meaningful follow through. As a result, oil still sits just $5 below its recent all-time high of $140.

Posted at 4:04pm on May 15, 2008 Demand bold, new conservative leadership
By Whacker77
After Dennis Hastert's House seat was lost in a March special election, I warned Republicans that it was time to face some cold hard truths. Unless the political environment drastically improved, the elections of 2008 would be far worse than the disastrous results of 2006. Although I sounded a negative tone, I tried to remain optimistic and felt success, through a unified and conservative agenda, could still be achieved.

Posted at 2:06pm on May 14, 2008 Boehner and Blunt should resign immediately
By Whacker77
John Boehner and Roy Blunt should immediately resign their leadership positions in the House. Together, they have formed one of the most inept and ineffective tandems the Congress has seen in many years. Rather than unite House Republicans and conservative voters, the opposite has occurred. Republicans and conservatives are more dispirited now than they were in 2006.
The events of the last few months only solidify the paltry leadership of Boehner and Blunt. Since the first of March, three traditionally safe Republican House seats have been lost. It would be one thing if these seats were situated in blue districts, but they weren't. Ruby red areas shunned the "permanent majority" Karl Rove attempted to create. Cleary, another wave is on the horizon.

Posted at 5:09pm on Mar. 9, 2008 It's time to face reality
By Whacker77
I'm an optimistic person by nature, but it's time for Republicans to face some cold hard facts. The elections of 2008 are shaping up to be worse than the disastrous results of 2006. The loss of Dennis Hastert's House seat only confirms the belief that Republicans are in big trouble this year.
No matter the metric, Republicans trail the Democrats badly in this election cycle. Obama and Clinton continue to set new fundraising records. Turnout in Democrat primaries has dwarfed Republican turnout. Many Senate and House Republicans are retiring while candidate recruitment suffers. Worst of all, conservatives are unhappy with their own nominee, John McCain.

Posted at 5:31pm on Feb. 20, 2008 I endorse Chris Cox for the Vice Presidency
By Whacker77
Now that John McCain has essentially locked up the Republican nomination for president, much of the chatter in conservative circles has turned to potential vice presidential nominees. The conventional wisdom suggests McCain needs to choose someone with a verifiable conservative record, someone with executive experience, and someone who geographically balances the ticket. Not surprisingly, the names of prominent Republican governors have received a great deal of attention.

Posted at 1:53pm on Jan. 15, 2008 A Romney win in Michigan is Republican Suicide
By Whacker77
***I am a Fred Thompson supporter***
A win by Mitt Romney in the Michigan primary would be a devastating blow to Republican chances in the general election. No sooner than Romney declares victory in Michigan, the conservative establishment will once again resume their effort to force Mitt Romney down our throats. It didn't work the first time, but it just may work the second time because Republicans appear tired of the lingering nomination fight. Chaos is a Democrat trait, not a Republican one.

Posted at 5:37pm on Jan. 4, 2008 Faltering Conservatism, Bush, and Rush
By Whacker77
Conservatism is faltering. That's the message we should take away from Mike Huckabee's win in Iowa. Despite the near unanimous resistance from prominent conservatives, Iowans turned out in impressive numbers to vote for a pro-life populist. In effect, it was a slap in the face at the conservative movement begun by Barry Goldwater and nurtured to maturity by Ronald Reagan.
Any critical look at the failures of the conservative movement over the last decade would have to begin with George W. Bush. He came to office in 2000 as a compassionate conservative which, as Fred Barnes's book pointed out, was code for big government conservatism. Certainly, that view of conservatism was both new and not rooted in reality.

Posted at 8:33pm on Jan. 1, 2008 Make Wednesday "Rush Needs To Endorse Fred Day"
By Whacker77
Let this serve as a call to arms, Fredheads. If you believe Fred Thompson is the right man to carry the conservative banner forward, now is the time to act. On January 2, 2008, Rush Limbaugh returns to his radio show. Use this opportunity to email him and call his show. Impress upon him that conservatism needs his help in the form of an endorsement of Fred Thompson. Remind him that his inaction may very well lead to the nomination John McCain.

Posted at 10:09pm on Dec. 30, 2007 Conservatism about to be Rejected
By Whacker77
Based on the most recent collection of polling data, it appears Republican voters are about to reject conservatism as we have known it for the last 27 years. What other message can there be when we see John McCain and Mike Huckabee, and to a lesser extent Mitt Romney, leading the way in New Hampshire and Iowa respectively? None of these men represent the type of conservatism Ronald Reagan preached in his landslide victories in 1980 and 1984, yet they lead the pack.

Posted at 5:12pm on Dec. 28, 2007 What's Wrong with Iowans?
By Whacker77
With just six days to go until the Iowa caucuses, I find myself asking one simple question. What's wrong with the conservatives in Iowa? After all, the majority of them appear ready to cast their votes for either an anti-abortion liberal or a man who's had every position under the sun in just the last few years.
I've heard the reasoning and listened to the pundits, but it makes no sense why Iowans appear ready to reject the consistent conservative in the race. According to conservative pundits like Rush, Republicans lost in 2006, not because of the war, but because they weren't acting like the conservatives they claimed to be. Why turn down the real conservative just because his early campaign didn't set the world on fire?
