Posted at 12:47pm on Jan. 5, 2008 Live Wyoming Caucus UPDATE - looks like Romney

By MCM

How big a political junkie are you? If you're nutty enough (like me) to be looking for results on the Wyoming caucus, I found a live blog from the Teton County Republican Convention & Caucus. http://www.planetjh.com/news/A_102782.aspx

Hopefully they'll also be able to get some info on what's happening in the other counties around the state.

1:03 Eastern - now voting for national delegate. Looks like it's between FRED! and Romney. Edge to Romney.

Posted at 12:07am on Jun. 12, 2006 Pej is right and Moe, you're an idiot...

By MCM

O.K., the title is in jest and only intended to get you to actually read this (since I'm not of sufficient breeding to post on redhot).

I'm from Alabama.  I know next to nothing about soccer.  But I'm an American.  And I'm a sports fan.  If the United States of America were squaring off against Congo in tiddlywinks, I'd pull for the U.S.  How can any red(state)-blooded American think differently?! Frankly, Moe, your view that we should hope we lose in the World Cup so that other countries will like us better or at least not resent us as much (or is it because you fear reprisals from the Czech Republic) is, well, downright Kos-like.

My resolve to root for the U.S. in the World Cup is only strengthened by the fact that it might really really upset a few countries if we actually beat them or -- gasp -- win the Cup (we come in ranked #5 in the world rankings, so it's not impossible).  Italy is withdrawing troops from Iraq.  Nothing much the White House can do to counter them on that.  But Landon Donovan and company can.  We have the chance to lay the smackdown on them in the one sport they care about.

And then there's the dream scenario -- a possible quarterfinal matchup against France.  I really don't care what geopolitical interest would be advanced by the U.S. losing to France.  I want them beaten and I want them beaten badly.  We'll deal with the threat of French reprisals against U.S. interests later (too late to make a joke.  Insert one here.) France is like Duke.  When they lose it's a good thing.  When it's your team that beats them it's a great thing.

So, slowly and carefully step down off the well-trod anti-soccer soapbox and do what Reagan would have done.  Root for the U.S. in anything and everything -- even soccer.

Posted at 9:24pm on Jun. 6, 2006 Alabama Election Results -- "Roy Moore Party" Takeover Attempt

By MCM

Roy Moore is running for governor in Alabama against the incumbent Bob Riley.  Several "Roy Moore Party" candidates are running for Supreme Court seats against incumbent Republicans.  The results are here.

http://www.al.com/election/coverage/index.ssf?state

I am Alabama born and bred and was a law clerk for one of the associate justices (a very strong Christian and incredibly brilliant public servant) during the Ten Commandments controversy so I'm very interested in the outcomes here.

I'm sure there will be some here who are supportive of Roy Moore.   But, I've seen enough of him up close to lose any sympathy for him I once had.  I've watched him question the Christian faith of men and women whose faith is rock solid simply because they disagreed with his radical (and activist) ideas.  I've seen him place personal ambition over the unity of an 8-1 Republican Court.

I'll be hoping and praying tonight for a clean sweep of Mr. Moore and his compatriots from AL state politics.

Posted at 12:43pm on Feb. 8, 2006 Carter Repeats the Lie of Katrina

By MCM

Aside from the inappropriateness of his comments at the funeral and his failure to note that it was a Democratic administration that spied on the Kings, Jimmy Carter was just wrong on the facts concerning Hurricane Katrina.

Per MSNBC:

"Carter brought up the government response to Katrina, saying, 'We only have to recall the color of the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi" to know that inequality exists.'"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11173305/page/2/

The fact is that although New Orleans is 67%  African-American, http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/22/22071.html the numbers of Whites and blacks killed in Louisiana were roughly even.  Per the Louisiana Dept of Health and Hospitals, based on the most recent information, 49% were black.  47% were white.    http://www.dhh.louisiana.gov/news.asp?ID=145&Detail=758&Arch=2005

The truth is that the older population died disproportionately (as one would unfortunately expect), but also that WHITES died disproportionate to their numbers.  Certainly, there was no obvious racial disparity in the impact of Katrina -- at least one that harmed blacks disproportionately to whites.

These facts have been reported in conservative publications (like cnsnews), but the lie continues to be repeated by the Dems unchecked by MSM.  This myth needs to be put to rest.

Posted at 11:04pm on Jan. 30, 2006 Dems' Problem: Believing Their Own Propaganda

By MCM

Conservatives are "right wing."  Liberals are "Moderate."  Ultra-liberals are "left of center."  That's what the MSM tells us.  The left has clearly won in their efforts to frame the debate.  Their propaganda machine has worked.  So, why aren't they winning?  Because they forgot not to believe their own lies.

Read on.
