Posted at 2:36pm on Apr. 15, 2008 Petition to Bring Back DalyThoughts

By ElCapitan

DalyThoughts.com was the best blog of the 2004 election, and quite possibly the best blog ever. No state-by-state insight to the Electoral Vote could be obtained anywhere else in new or old media. Mr. Daly, please bring back your blog. In the words of Princess Lea directed towards Obi-Wan Kanobi, "you're our only hope" for deep Electoral College analysis.

I am starting the petition.

Posted at 10:48pm on Jan. 18, 2008 Who Would Endorse Whom?

By ElCapitan

I am going to predict -and I'd like your predictions- on who would endorse whom if they were to drop out of the race:

Fred Thompson: John McCain. Fred & John are good friends and Fred was involved in McCain's campaign in 2000; I believe part of the reason he was hesitant to run was because before McCain-Kennedy, McCain looked to be the nominee (he was trading at 60 at one point on intrade.)

Posted at 1:50am on Jan. 15, 2008 Fred For The Dollar

By ElCapitan

We need to get our fiscal house in order. A strong dollar is not only for pride and power-of-travel, but a matter of national security. A weak dollar makes us less wealthy as a nation, with less to spend on our national security and infrastructure.

What are the causes of a weak dollar? One of them is a long term structural budget deficit. Pork-barrel spending does have SOMETHING to do with this—don’t get me wrong—and I commend Senator McCain for being so hawkish on this issue. Only one candidate, however, is addressing the long-term problem, our ever-expanding entitlements, head-on: that candidate is Fred Thompson.

Posted at 11:35pm on Jan. 12, 2008 Drudge's Stealth & Misleading McCain-Bashing Headline

By ElCapitan

DRUDGE's Headline: "CNN POLL: Clinton or Obama Would Beat Any Republican"

The poll results

Huckabee down 14 against Hill, 18 against Obama
Romney down 18 against Hill

McCain in statistical tie with both: down 1 and 2

The BITTERCONS, led by Drudge, Levin, and now -to my dismay- Rush, who love to bash McCain and Huckabee are being really annoying and if anything are driving people to their camps. This headline is the latest blatent example.

Posted at 8:45pm on Jan. 1, 2008 Thompson's Road to the GOP Nomination

By ElCapitan

This is what needs to happen for Fred to win the nomination:

1) Fred performs well in Iowa, winning 18-23% of the vote.

2) Fred wins his second consecutive debate after the Iowa caucuses.

3) Fred announces he is pouring all resources into SC, "writing off" NH and Michigan.

4) Romney fails to finish first in Iowa, NH, and Michigan, bursting his campaign's bubble, making his supporters look for "a new home." Romney's SC support shifts to Thompson.

Posted at 1:24am on Dec. 31, 2007 ***BREAKING: Electability Statistics; Romney Least Electable***

By ElCapitan

I have pulled the latest numbers from Intrade, taking the quotes for each candidate to win the GOP nomination and the quotes for each candidate to win the general election. I divided the nomination quote by the general election quote and I have the resulting chance of each candidate to win the election if nominated:

Rudy Giuliani: 12.0 / 30.2 = 39.7 %

John McCain: 8.4 / 21.6 = 38.9 %

Fred Thomson: 1.1 / 3.3 = 33.3 %

Posted at 8:27pm on Dec. 3, 2007 GOP Should Nominate: FT, JM, MH, RG, MR (...Sorry, HH)

By ElCapitan

What is going on with Hugh Hewitt's love-fest with Mitt Romney? Out of the "Big Five," Romney is our worst selection for the general election. Thompson, McCain, Huckabee, and Rudy (in that order) are all better candidates than Mitt. Here's Why:

Best Candidate: Fred Thompson

Thompson is our best candidate because he has the best solutions for America on taxes, social security, federalism, judges, "climate change," and national defense. He has never alienated any of the key elements of the base as all of the other four candidates have. He has appeal to independents for the general and he is our second most charming and quick-witted candidate (only behind Huck.) Also, his wife is a major asset in the general election. She is beautiful and well-versed in GOP politics. In an era where spouses often become politicians themselves she would also be an excellent future star in the GOP. If GOP baseball cards came out the day of a Thompson inauguration, Jeri Thompson would be a "Topps All-Star Rookie."

Posted at 1:54am on Oct. 22, 2007 Charlie Crist Won't Discount Run For VP

By ElCapitan

He would be good to sure up Florida. He would be a good VP choice for either Rudy or Romney. (But Thompson or Huckabee might also be a good choice for those two.)

Posted at 8:18pm on Jul. 10, 2007 Pre Roe-Reversal Strategies to Reduce Abortion Drastically

By ElCapitan

Hopefully Roe vs. Wade will be history within the next 10-15 years. SCOTUS newcomers Chief Justice John Roberts and Samuel Alito look to be as solid originalists (or textualists) as the giants Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. If a Republican President, either President Bush or his possible successor, were to replace one of the five pro-Roe justices with another solid originalist, we would have a good chance to overturn Roe soon. (Personally I would love Thomas to write that decision to drive Ellen Goodman and Elenor Clift to the edge but I digress…)
