In an irony that he undoubtedly completely misses, Sen. Carl Levin wants the Iraqis to pay us back for their reconstruction using....wait for it....
"Oil windfalls"
sigh......
Interestingly, this thing has "bipartisan" support in the form of Sen. Susan Collins, who also has a quote in the article regarding "windfall" oil prices.

But it sure doesn't feel Super. As of this morning, the realistic choices are McCain vs Romney and Obama vs Clinton. Bleah.....2 con men, 2 socialists.....
What is a conservative to do? Go with the flip-flopping and too-slick Romney, or the known problem child that McCain represents? Throw up the hands and curse a pox on both their houses?
In this instance I have an additional factor which either helps or hinders the decision-making process, depending on how you view it.

My Plan
Step 1: Win the Presidency. Yeah, the first step is the hardest, but after that it's all gravy.
Step 2. In the Rousing Speech following the Oath, declare that one term is the goal; I will not seek my party's nomination for a second term, but I will accept it. If nominated, I will not run; however, if elected I will serve the second term. The point is to get things done and not waste half my time running again. If the people like what I'm doing, there is no better advertising or campaign slogan than "so vote him in again."

After watching the shenanigans on the Hill regarding the Dems' non-binding nonsense, I was hit with an idea....
What if a House Repub were to put together a bill that would do exactly as the rabid Dems want; namely, to de-fund the War in Iraq?
It would force the new Dem majority to address the issue for real and go on record, just as primary season is about to heat up. They would have nowhere to hide; the bill would be the most talked-about piece of legislation for weeks. And each Dem would have to take a "yes" or "no" position.

Thank you, conservatives who decided to stay home or protest-vote for third-party or dem candidates. Because of your desire to "teach a lesson" we now face the worst possible outcome of the election -- loss of control of both houses. The war on terror, especially in Iraq, is now compromised. Justice Stevens is virtually guaranteed to retire or keel over any day now, and there is virtually no chance of getting another Roberts or Alito confirmed. Sunsetting the tax breaks is a certainty, and the immigration issue will shortly be settled by the granting of citizenship to 20 million criminals. Rangel is in charge of the House Appropriations, Leahy is in charge of Senate Judicial, and Howard Dean has every reason to keep yapping. Our most lethal enemies in the middle east and eastern Asia are now emboldened and encouraged.

Some conservatives are falling prey to the media machine that is gleefully predicting the blue wave overtaking Congress in three weeks. In monitoring conservative websites and talk radio, I have heard and read a disconcerting number of responses that advocate sitting out this election in order to "teach the Republicans a lesson" and that being back in the wilderness for awhile will help galvanize "real" conservatives to nominate and elect better candidates.

I don't believe the national parties ought to be involved in primaries. They should be out of the picture until the nominee is chosen, then be all-out for their candidate in the general.
I have been mortified at the party's treatment of Steve Laffey in his attempt to take out Lincoln Chaffee in Rhode Island. The national party has been actively working against Laffey (who is far more conservative than Chaffee), pouring money into the race and running anti-Laffey ads worse than anything the dems would do.

Tuesday, July 18 is primary day for Georgia.
As a resident of GA-4, I have the always-praised Cynthia McKinney as my "representative".
Georgia has open primaries, meaning that you take whichever ballot you wish, democrat or republican. This posting is an appeal to all GA-4 voters to cross over and vote against Cynthia McKinney in the primary. There are plenty of arguments to stay on the (R) ballot for the state offices, but I believe it is more important and necessary to unseat McKinney here and now.
In November, thanks to gerrymandering, this district will send a dem to Washington. The question is, which dem do we want that to be? I know which one I don't want any more....
I am urging redstaters in this district to vote for John Coyne -- for a dem he is relatively conservative, having staked out positions of support both for the continued war in Iraq (and WoT in general) and a secured border fence. While I would prefer to see a good conservative Republican in the seat, I can live with Coyne's presence there if need be.
We do not have adequate representation now, nor will we if McKinney prevails on Tuesday. Let's put Coyne in the dem candidacy and hope for the best in November. We absolutely will not do worse than sending McKinney back. The rest of the state will do fine in selecting our Republican candidates.

Iraq's marshes were devastated in the 1980s and 1990s by the Hussein regime's campaign to ditch, dike, drain, and burn them.
However, the subsequent war and removal of Hussein has led to a reflooding of these marshes. Researchers began studying the marsh zones in 2003 and continued through September 2005.
Despite incomplete data, the researchers found that in many respects the restored marshes they studied are functioning at levels close to those in one marsh that remained undrained. The fast recovery of plant production, overall good water quality, and rapid restoration of most wetland functions seem to indicate that the recovery of ecosystem function is well under way.
Amazing -- perhaps the enviromarxists' heads will explode at the thought of "Bushitler's War" leading to an environmental recovery of lands destroyed by the REAL dictator......
