What Senator McCain ought to do:
1-Get a task force from The American Enterprise Institute and have them take position advocated during the past year by candidate Obama on Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Syria, the war readiness of our armed forces, capital gains taxes, income taxes, oil companies, drug companies, social security, medicare, education, etc. and have them analyze the economic, political, social and military consequences of each individually and all of them together.

If all the financial turmoil has truly been caused by the rise and impending further rises in adjustable rate mortgages, the Fed could have done something far less risky than assuming $30 billion in risk to subsidize JP Morgan's $236 million takeover of Bear, which is worth a probable thirty times that amount, and probably more.

The Fed could offer to take a second mortgage on all primary residences on which appraised value exceeds mortgage debt by twenty percent or more. This second mortgage would pay fifty per cent of the monthly increase (one month at a time) in interest expense over the base rate.

But she didn't get tough by riding in the back of a governor's limousine for eight years and then in the back of a president's for another eight.

Riding in the back of a limousine for sixteen years may make you mean, but it doesn’t make you tough. Nor give you any genuine operational experience.
