Bill Moyer’s lengthy article makes some good points, and in fairness he also admits to the failings of both parties while he tries to point to where he believes we should go.

While I believe the direction we should go is different from Bill, I want to point out that the reasons for the different views are rooted in different evaluations of the evidence. While Bill believes that more people are worse off now than before, I believe it is difficult to devise a measure. Certainly we were all better off when gas only cost 37 cents a gallon to fill up. We must have thought it came refined out of the soil. But inflation has changed the value of the money supply so its difficult to say precisely whether we are better off now with gas at $3.00 a gallon or not. (Inflation would say gas should cost only $1.40 now). So it would appear that Bill is right that some persons are profiting more or the cost of producing gas has also changed.

When I think of the French people, I cannot but see a happy sexy group of young folk tipping their glasses of the latest vintage sitting in an outdoor café with a small pastry and a cigarette.  A small dog sleeping by the table rounds out the image.

"They dress like whores", the angry Muslim said referring to the French woman's  failure to wear the head covering of the Muslim women when in public.  Actually the French culture is a step by step refutation of Islamic law.  Now the two groups have had their first clash and it is hard to see that they will not have more.  The Muslims live in their closed zone to have their laws and keep from being forced to observe the western culture all around them.
