WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is stepping down.
Eric Ruff, the Pentagon press secretary, said he participated in meetings with Rumsfeld on Wednesday morning and heard no talk of changing war strategies or of Rumsfeld leaving his post. He said he did not know whether Rumsfeld has talked to President Bush about his future in light of the election results.

Well, I sit here in my kitchen. A little blue, and quite honestly, a little excited. I get the chance now to be the loyal opposition. Deval Patrick will be Governor and I wish him well. He is now in debt to a lot of traditional Democratic groups who gave him huge amounts of money and support.
These groups, the teachers, AFL-CIO, labor unions, even most of the Police unions went for him (except the State Police Association of Massachusetts-SPAM). Though Healy went and gave them 19% so they are happy for now. There will be a lot of hands out in January with the teachers leading the pack looking to cash in their markers.
