In comments I've made to friends and acquaintances, I've stated that Ahmed Abu-Laban, one of the two main Islamic clerics in Denmark who instigated this whole thing, is probably surprised by the way-over-the-top reactions in the Muslim world and perhaps regrets a bit that things have gotten so far out of hand.

I am generally speaking a libertarian whose core issues strongly overlap with the Right in general and Republicans in particular. If I detect one of these core issues is in play I might be motivated to vote, but generally speaking I don't.
OTOH, I do have a strong urge to tweak the pompous, the humorless, the arrogant, the disdainful, in short, the Democrats (at least at this point in time).
