By streetwise
Hi, I'm Klaatu. I'm from the Global Government, and I'm here to help!

Ah, the lefty pathway is never easy. For all their railing against George W. Bush and the GOP, when it comes to fielding a credible alternative, the Democratic party never fails to disappoint the lefties. They always feel betrayed, disillusioned, robbed – or as the Brits would put it, nicked. Gore would have won, except he was a bad candidate and the GOP stole Florida. Kerry would have won, except he was a bad candidate who allowed himself to be Swift-Boated and the GOP stole Ohio. (Do you sense a pattern of bad candidates here?)

Posted at 7:52am on Jun. 29, 2008 Did Harvard Prepare Dr Obama For Dem Family Quarrels?
By streetwise
The Doctors Crane- Harvard didn't prepare them, either!

American presidential elections tend to be a study in scandal for ideological liberals and not a few movement conservatives. The tidy shelves of propositional politics give way under the reality of the nature of the office. We have a BIG government that requires executive skill to manage, and whose services the electorate is not willing to do without. We have national interests that people expect to be protected, and a superpower’s responsibilities. We share the planet with other powers that are not disposed to accept our world view.

Laura- and her sophisticated and most dangerous association

The story of the good man or woman who comes to grief through bad associations is as old as the Scriptures. One of the best stories of this genre can be found in the film noir classic Laura. The heroine has an unfortunate tendency to surround herself with a "collection of dopes" as the detective played by Dana Andrews describes it. And one of them is the sophisticated, witty and murderous Waldo Lydecker. How did she get entangled with him? Because he launched her career. And she couldn't break free as his vicious nature began to assert itself, because "I owed him too much."

By streetwise
Michelle Obama's co-hosting session on "The View" was all over the cable news shows last night. She is clearly paying attention to the critiques of her public image, because last night we saw a woman transformed - personable, chatty, approachable. And glamorous and attractive. Make no mistake about it, when Michelle Obama is not in one of her crabby moods, she is very telegenic.

By streetwise
They seek him here, they seek him there, those Frenchies seek him everywhere. Is he in heaven, or is he in hell? That damned elusive Pimpernel!
There was an unmistakable hint of respect emanating from Old Europe during the president’s most recent trip. And almost a sense of regret. While President Bush remains unpopular with the European public, the continent’s leadership is perhaps now more responsive to US foreign policy initiatives than it has been in over a decade.

Posted at 11:46am on Jun. 11, 2008 Top 10 Reasons to Support McCain
By streetwise
A modest effort to look at the bright side of our loveable and oh-so-problematic nominee.
1) When he's angry, you KNOW he's angry. Poor GWB! He has turned the other cheek so often in New Tone mode that he needs a neck brace. (Now eligible expense under Medicare Part D)
2) He will expose the MSM prostitution ring. It will be enjoyable to catch the MSM, which had professed such affection for McCain, repeatedly en flagrante delicto with Obama.

Posted at 7:24pm on Jun. 9, 2008 The Quality of Mercy Is Not Strained- but the Trolls Try
By streetwise
This is just a short blog where I will think aloud about the probable path of trolls through RS over the next few months. It occurred to me during today's AIDS discussion thread, when Joliphant pointed out that a certain someone was on a mission, which was exactly what I was thinking.
I doubt that will be the last one. We will see more of the following types:
- the crazed McCain basher, who will try to incite as much division as possible. This is a tough one, because many non-trolls have many legitimate reservations about our loveable but problematic nominee. But astute lefy operatives know this and will capitalize on it as agents provocateurs. I don't envy RS management the job of separating the wheat from the chaff here!

Posted at 12:27pm on Jun. 5, 2008 Help Wanted: Due Diligence Analysts on Global Warming
By streetwise
If recent anti-GW legislative proposals are any indicator, we are in for a slew of government initiatives that will raise taxes, create bureaucratic red tape and curtail economic growth.
So before the voters accept such a bout of self-imposed torture, we need to force the politicians to do due diligence. Due diligence is a term popular on Wall Street, where investment offerings are subjected to various forms of scrutiny. Indeed, many of Wall Street’s failures can be traced directly to a lack of due diligence. Well, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, and we need to demand the same standards from the government that we now demand from Wall Street.

Posted at 4:06pm on Jun. 4, 2008 Clintons to the MSM: "Where Did Our Love Go?"
By streetwise
Every presidential campaign is a fascinating adventure in both politics and sociology. 2008 is no exception. In fact, it could be an exercise in socialism as well. But let's start with the fun stuff first!
Perhaps the most striking thing about 2008 is that the MSM has dropped all pretense of objectivity, and its minions are cheering for the charismatic campaigner who has pushed the Democratic party hard, hard left. They have never been so blatant. Not only do they favor the Dems over the GOP, something we have all known for quite a while, but they are now playing hardball deep inside the factional politics of the Democratic party itself.

Posted at 1:00am on Jun. 2, 2008 Simply Stunning- and Fun, Too!- The Reagan Library
By streetwise
It took a long time to get here but I'm so glad I did. The Reagan presidential library is stunning - in its setting in the sun-burnished hills of the Simi Valley, its architecture and gardens, its exhibits and audio-visuals, the knowledge of its volunteer staff and, perhaps best of all, the Air Force One pavilion. Of course the fact that its founder did such a superb job as president doesn't hurt either!
