Posted at 3:25pm on Aug. 10, 2006 Will the Global War on Islamofascism Impact the 2006 Elections?

By Joe Cella

The Global War on Islamofascism (GWOI) and the real threat it poses to the United States, Britain and other allies is before all of us today.

All necessary steps must be taken to thwart these attacks and provide for the common defense of the United States.

It seems that in the 20th and 21st century, a sitting war time President and the party in control of Congress have not been defeated by voters, perhaps indicating voters are reluctant to switch horses mid stream.

During the GWOI in 2004, plots were thwarted and Osama bin Laden appeared on video rattling his saber days before the election. Voters expressed confidence in President Bush and the Republicans who retained and expanded their majority in Congress arguably because because of their support for an aggressive stance against the GWOI and because of the palpable threat.

Posted at 3:15pm on Aug. 4, 2006 Senator Mel Martinez: Deploy Commando Solo

By Joe Cella

Image

In light of the apparent transition underway in Cuba, Florida Senator Mel Martinez sent this letter on Wednesday to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld requesting that he deploy our Psy-Ops/civil affairs platform Commando Solo to broadcast TV Marti to the people of Cuba.

(TV and Radio Marti is a US-funded broadcasting operation designed to send uncensored news to the people of Cuba.)

Commando Solo has played a very important role during our military operations in Panama, Gulf War I Haiti, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq providing necessary information to military and civilian personnel in those countries.

Posted at 11:38am on Jun. 27, 2006 Senator John Kerry, Windsurfer In Chief

By Joe Cella

There seems to be a never-ending supply of instances of Senator John Kerry being for something...before he was against it, or vice versa, tacking back and forth like the good windsurfer he is.

Kerry said the following about the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq in a December 2003 speech to the Council on Foreign Relations:

"I fear that in the run-up to the 2004 election, the administration is considering what is tantamount to a cut-and-run strategy. Their sudden embrace of accelerated Iraqification and American troop withdrawal dates, without adequate stability, is an invitation to failure. The hard work of rebuilding Iraq must not be dictated by the schedule of the next American election... [It] would be a disaster and a disgraceful betrayal of principle to speed up the process simply to lay the groundwork for a politically expedient withdrawal of American troops. That could risk the hijacking of Iraq by terrorist groups and former Ba'athists."

Posted at 8:59am on Jun. 23, 2006 Another Attempted Kerry Power Move, Another Abysmal Failure

By Joe Cella

John Kerry’s great surf and spandex adventureIt is worth nothing that twice in one year, Senator John Kerry (D-MA) has attempted two "power" moves that have resulted in two abysmal failures.

Both reflect poor political judgment, both instances resulted him alienating himself further from the Democratic Caucus and both revealed the overall division and lack of direction of the Left.

Let's do a quick re-cap.

While on the slopes of plush ski resort of Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum, Senator Kerry courageously led an attempted filibuster against Justice Samuel Alito. The result? Kerry fails on his attempt, 72-25, with many of his colleagues questioning his motives and the soundness of his decision making.

Though not at resort, Senator Kerry quarterbacked a resolution that advocated the withdrawal of U.S. troops begin by year's end. The result? Kerry fails on his attempt, 86-13,
again with many of his colleagues questioning Kerry and becoming increasingly frustrated with him.

With a record of decisions like this, his ability to serve as credible nominee for the Democratic Party is beginning to whither away, or perhaps already has.

Posted at 10:56pm on Jun. 14, 2006 Watching Somalia

By Joe Cella

As we watch the moves of tyrants across the globe, and tyrants in the making, our sights once again turn to Somalia.

Post 9-11, the United States has expressed grave concerns that Somalia could become an oasis for terrorists since Islamic militants have been sheltering 3 Al Qaeda leaders who played a role in the 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

Given this history and Somalia's strategic location in the Horn of Africa, we have posted troops in neighboring Djibouti to try to prevent terror groups from taking hold in the Horn of Africa.

Posted at 5:31pm on Jun. 14, 2006 The Flag Amendment and The Greatest Play In Baseball

By Joe Cella

ImageToday is Flag Day. It was established by President Harry Truman in 1949 to mark the anniversary of the adoption of Old Glory as the national banner in 1777.

While it is not a national holiday, Americans are encouraged to display the flag....so do so if you can, while there is still daylight.

To honor this day, this morning, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, some of his Senate colleagues, held a press conference announcing their support of a Constitional amendment to prohibit the desecration of the United States Flag.

Joining them were Major General Patrick H. Brady, U.S. Army (Ret.,) chairman of the Board of Directors, Citizens Flag Alliance and recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Rick Monday, former Chicago Cubs star and Heather French Henry, Miss America 2000.

A floor vote is scheduled for June 26. Apparently at this point if all 100 Senators show up for the vote, they will be one vote shy of the 67 needed for passage.

What does the Flag Amendment have to do with "The Greatest Play in Baseball?"

Happy Flag Day!

Posted at 5:57pm on Jun. 5, 2006 Busby/Bilbray Update

By Joe Cella

The Busby/Bilbray race is reaching a fever pitch ahead of tomorrow's vote and may come down to a photo finish.

Immigration is largely driving the debate in CA-50 and the issue is spilling over into other races, offering a foreshadowing of the nature of some of the debates in the November election.

This article gives a good update on the very fluid state of affairs. Fran Busby has been using the anti-corruption sentiment to her advantage and attempting to finesse the immigration issue. Although it blew up on her last week. See this Red Hot post.

Posted at 2:41pm on May 31, 2006 Chavez and His Military Buildup

By Joe Cella

While Venezuelan “strong man” President Hugo Chavez has millions living in squalor (with some reports suggesting as many as 50% of the total population) he is touting the failed Socialist economic policies of his Bolivarian utopian revolution as THE ticket out for the impoverished. The problem he is oblivious to is that these policies will only mire them more deeply in poverty.

Chavez has now thrown gasoline on the fire by announcing a massive arms buildup (to the tune of nearly $3 billion). Despite the United States block on arm sales to Venezuela and protests by the State Department to countries friendly to Chavez, Spain is supplying 48 high speed patrol boats http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060531/wl_nm/venezuela_russia_dc
">and Russia will help Venezuela build plants to make Kalashnikov rifles and ammunition.

With this as a backdrop, Chavez is hinting that he may hold a plebiscite in December to seek “indefinite” re-election.

Posted at 6:02pm on May 12, 2006 Happy Mother's Day From Planned Parenthood

By Joe Cella

As many may know, Planned Parenthood has already infamously made their mark by perverting one hallowed religious holiday, Christmas, through their offensive "Choice on Earth" holiday card campaign.

Spreading this message of "good cheer" through these cards, they exploit this sacred time of year for raising money to keep themselves as the #1 abortion provider and expand their abortion on demand agenda.

Planned Parenthood leaving no stone unturned, is using pro-abortion Hollywood stars Gwyneth Paltrow and her mother (ironically) Blythe Danner, to boldly seize another special holiday, Mother's Day, which we celebrate this Sunday, May 14.

Posted at 12:20pm on May 6, 2006 Hugo Chavez Threatening "Indefinite Re-Election"

By Joe Cella

Recently, Venezuelan President and "strong man" Hugo Chavez has been jetting around the world being "powerful" and "important" meeting with the leaders of other tyrannical regimes.

From concocting schemes to fight imperialism and capitalism, helping nationalize the oil and gas industries in South America and flirting with the sale of F-16s to Cuba and China.

It seems Chavez is becoming intoxicated with his "power" and "importance" and is now threatening "indefinite re-election."
