2008: Obama is in
He's no Dennis Kucinich!

Okay, this will surprise no one, but since Mark is talking about Mitt Romney, I thought I'd mention this. Robert Novak reports today that Illinois Sen. Barack Obama is in the 2008 race for President on the Democratic side:
Contrary to reports that Barack Obama is still trying to make up his mind on seeking the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, sources close to the first-term senator say he is unequivocally committed to making the race.
The word has spread through political circles that Obama's wife, Michelle, is resisting the campaign out of fear for her husband's physical safety as an African-American candidate for president. But an Obama insider dismissed that as a problem. ''We took care of that last summer,'' he told this column.
The most interesting portion of the Novak piece, however, is below the fold.
Read on...
A footnote: Obama advisers were surprised how much the prospect of his campaign has shaken front-running Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. For the first time, she has asserted that she would have voted against going to war in Iraq if she knew then what she knows now.
I don't know if Obama is a legitimate candidate, or if he'll be exposed in the bright lights of a presidential nominating contest (much like John Edwards, though his shallowness wasn't completely exposed until the general election). Either way, any time Hillary Clinton gets nervous over another candidate entering the race, it's good fun for us all.

to the candidate from the Trifecta of Corruption (Illinois, Cook County & Chicago).
Maybe it's a ploy to drum up support for the Dems, then toward the end will come the bait and switch.
Many people have differing thoughts on Novak. He is a little to anti-Israel for me (for instance). Other than that he seems to be a solid conservative, especialy on pro-life and on fiscon issues.
But there is no need for a grain of salt. Novak is regarded by both sides of the political debate and by virtualy everyone in media (both mainstream and new media) as having at once both the most and best sources inside of government (and that includes both sides of the aisle for sources).
No one is right 100% of the time, but Novak has years of building his journalistic reputation on getting respectable and deep inside sources from all over DC.
If he says Obama is in I would put money on it.

Who among the Democrats is going to point out that Obama is not qualified to be president . . . little national experience . . . never tested by any kind of tough election . . .
Of course there are his substantial legislative accomplishements . . . . WAIT, not much there, either.
The irony for the Dems is that no one among the other candiates will be willing criticize or attack him . . . for fear of being accused of racism.
Just wait, though, the Clintonistas are not going to take this lying down . . . they will come up with some surrogates who will work to cut him down to size.

I know, let's find someone without any experience as an executive and make him the Chief Executive of the world's most powerful organization.
Sort of like making the best-looking bus boy your head chef.
Hey, maybe we'll all need food tasters.
Evil men hide from the truth, but good men stand upon it.
The main disqualifier that trumps all other complaints about Obama are his liberal world view and preferred domestic and foreign policies, especially including his appeasement McGovernite views on war and his statements during the war.
If he were a war hawk and a fiscal and social conservative, with all else about him being the same, I would support him for President over any other democrat and many of the republican nominees.
I don't want an oxymoronic "competent liberal" in the White House. I would take an inexperienced conservative, especially a charismatic one, over any lib any day.

...that John Kerry flunked all of the above, too, and was still nominated.
1. Never tested by a tough election? Kerry has the good fortune to live in a state where the bar is set very low for anyone with a (D) after their name.
2. No legislative accomplishments - Again, Kerry has one of the least consequential legislative records in the U.S. Senate.
3. Won't be criticized for fear of being accused of racism - Kerry was in Vietnam, you know. Can't touch that.
Obama's only "qualifications" that surpass Kerry's record of profound mediocrity is that Barack is likeable and doesn't look like a mortician. Not very strong differentiators, but probably enough to make him a Democratic front-runner.

What does that mean?
Found the last active KKK chapters and sent them jello?
Ran a push poll in the South asking if they would descriminate against a candidate considering his dusky hued skin from his Hawaiian side.

Obama will come out as a tough, American national-interest first Democrat. Increase the size of the military, etc. He'll be tough on North Korea and Iran. He'll continue to call for withdrawl from Iraq, the default DNC position, to compensate, but he'll run to Hilly's right on being a tough Dem. He'll be tough on the Eurotrash, and here's the big surprise, a big friend to the Israelis.
He can do this because he's tabula rasa.
This is the smart play for him. The Kossacks will hate him. He will run against angry partisanship and for winning the war on terror. He will run as a Truman Democrat. He will talk up Scoop Jackson and the "forgotten war" in Afghanistan and the Mad Mullahs in Iran.
Rank and file will see JFK in the kid. Bubba will know exactly what he is doing and get heartsick, because Hillary will drop like a stone.
The people over at Firedoglake, Kos, and Americablog will scream "Neocon Puppet" and look for the Jews in the Backroom controlling the gullible young schwartzer goy. But there won't be any Jooooos. Maybe some Commentary folks providing some friendly advice, now and again, and some backchanneling to Henry and Condi, but that will be it.
Huge Sister Souljah act coming. Hillary is about to get smoked, big time. Heard it here, first.
Obama has to think of two things: winning the nomination and then running as a Truman Democrat against Rudy, a Truman/Teddy Roosevelt Republican. He doesn't have time for the Moonbats.
"History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it"-Winston Churchill
and statements on the war and most all of his statements about foreign policy and America history since he entered public life; and then he will have to explain the reason for such a 180 degree epiphany and what assurance we have that he won't have a McGovernite epiphany the day after he is inaugurated.
There is not one reason to to believe their is one Truman-like bone in his body and that, therefore, if he makes such an about face on such a fundamental issue at age 46-7, there will be every reason to believe he is bigger liar and has less character than Bill Clinton.
Democrats have a long road back to being credible on national defense. Their words mean nothing without years of consistent actions to back them up.
So far, we aren't even to step one on ANY elected democrat in DC since Lieberman is an Independent and Zell retired.
In fact, we have every reason to believe that most democrats would prefer that America loses the Iraq war so as to discredit Bush.
The Democrat party I was an active member of for 20 years worked hard for deserves my hatred and contempt. They have it.

after the election, about five days after the election. The smart moonbats, a highly relative phrase, know this. Expect an almost immediate Bill Clinton turnaround after the vote, when Bill dropped the middle of the road as someplace where accidents happen.
History is frustrating in that it is not learned from so much as it's quickly forgotten. Wild Bill was a true blue ultra liberal in his first two years or until Dick Morris took his hand and taught him how to fake it.
Expect something similar from the left's new hero.
As for Hillary; unless a fix is in for a combined Hillary/Obama ticket the fat tub has problems. A real challenge will rattle her precarious mental state. Fluffs, blunders, nastiness { which could backfire on one living in a glass house] probably will surface. And the media, which all along has known just what the Clinton's are, will hedge and cover for their new guy.
Expect new heights of petulance, rage, and diaper wetting from our maladjusted NY senator. She expected a coranation, instead see'll be in the first real fight of her miserable life.
"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville
alternative media will break out the skeletons in Bill and Hillary's closet and that the MSM will have to cover same as well. I refer here to the intimidation of Monica and other bimbo eruptions; the china campaign connection with missile technology transfers; the pardons, etc. I also doubt Bill Clinton would survive, literally, a Hillary run in 2008.

Do you think its possible the MSM itself could break out the skeletons in the primaries to prevent a sure loser Hillary from getting the nomination? Even after Bill's recent threat to do op-research against the press?

But he has a funny name... is America ready for a president with a funny name?
I think most American voters are not like 12 year olds snickering at the substitute teacher's name, heh.

Run like Reagan!
only because we have never had a president with a weird name. so, Americans are perhaps more like 12 year olds on some things more than you think.

But it probably wasn't so unusual for its time. And Filmore is certainly not a "weird" last name. Any others?
but this guy does. flip flop, flip flop.
The Washington Monthly was pimping Obama within three months of his election, about the time he found out where the Capitol washrooms were. Hillary should be scared.
She has no real electoral experience, please New York State??
We just got finished booking, fingerprinting, and plea bargaining Alan Hevisi, elected in a landslide and with the story well out there before the election.
Her '06 campaign was against a decent man who the Republican Party did not back or fund. Her '00 campaign was against a candidate tarred by a scandal that mysteriously died around election day, and who sliced her in the first debate.
As a debater she has the skills of a mummified corpse and she isn't getting a free pass from the media against their new darling, Obama-Rama. She's in trouble and she knows it. Cancel that, her advisors know it and managed to get the idea across to her, after much sweat and strain.

The '08 Democratic ticket will probably end up being Clinton/Obama, and all of the mainstream press and most of the "pro-politically correct" crowd will be more than happy to support a Democratic ticket with a woman as its Presidential candidate and a black man as its Vice Presidential candidate. People as well as the mainstream press will end up overdoing it with "sob stories" about why we all need Clinton/Obama to win it all in '08. The Republican Party will need to create a very decent Presidential/Vice Presidential ticket to even have a chance in '08, and right now, I don't see the Republican Party winning. I hope that I'm wrong about all of this.
and I've been saying tis before there was an Obama. Now its even more imperitive. I favor JC Watts, bit Blackwell or Steele or Rice would also be fine. Lets not forget Alphonso Jackson or Pitts as well.

Don't get me wrong, I think Cheney is one of the most intellegent and capable men in the country. But I've been a fan of JC Watt since his "Character is doing the right thing even when no one's looking." speech at the Republican convention.
And it has nothing to do with the color of his skin. The man is a great public speaker and we need such men (and women) who can spread the word for conservative thought.
Socialism doesn't work. It looks nice on paper, but it's been tried and it's failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).

JC decided the GOP or at least Newt had lost its way and he was right.

Powell and Rice in the Cabinet, Thomas on the SC, Steele running for the Senate in MD, and Blackwell running for Governor in OH achieved exactkt what for the Republicans these last few years? That's right. Nothing. Blacks still vote overwhelmingly democrat. So now we panic and pick someone for the presidential ticket based on their race? Isn't there a name for that?
Republicans may well lose the presidency in '08, no matter who we run. The country is sick to death of George W. Bush and his republican brand of liberalism. But we won't win or lose based on the color of the skin of the candidates on our presidential/vice presidential ticket.
Based on a lot of what I've read here and in other places, we are going to have to decide what we believe before we can go out there and sell it to others. That's the first step. I thought we had that with Reagan, but ever since he left office, there are those in the party who are trying to move it left both economically and socially. It obviously has not worked out very well. So lets get our own house in order first, and then we should be able to take down a democratic ticket of clinton/obama which is far to the left of any ever offered to the American public (with the possible exception of Mr. Gore).
of the Black conservatives I cited do. Putting a Black on the ticket we present to the American people goes a step beyond ther cabinet and makes it more likley we can demolish the Dems in 2008. The Dem's coalition is much more fragile than the GOP's. Our fissures are on ideas. The Dems are dependant on 90%+ black vote for survival.
