C'mon "Huckabee Facts" - come out and play

Do we really need the anonymous hit pieces anymore?

If you've not seen it, you will. A striking (like a boot to the head) and personal plea for voters to punish Mike Huckabee for his involvement in the freeing of Wayne Dumond.

I'm not a thin-skinned one, and I believe that primaries can be a contact sport. I don't think this ad is out of bounds, and I believe that it's a legitimate issue. (for the record, I also kind of like Mike Huckabee and certainly have nothing against him)

But - for the record - whomever is responsible for this ad has made a tremendous mistake. "Huckabee Facts" - the username on YouTube, is trying to do this completely anonymously. Huh? Are you kidding me? It wasn't a cheap ad to make, and it WILL COME OUT.

If you've got a beef w/ a candidate - stand up and say so. But if you're trying to put the knife between the ribs, you might have just missed, because you've given Huck the perfect opportunity to talk, not about the substance, but about your "dirty campaign trick." Well done.

UPDATE: and there's the source. Why wouldn't you put your name on it?

Your reaction is understandable, but I think its been overtaken by the evidence.

Keith Ellis is the person behind the video and it doesn't look like he's hiding his identity at all (unless you consider both directly contacting reporters and encouraging the mother to do so "trying to do this completely anonymously").

then that ad ought to get you thinking about jumping somewhere else.

If Huckabee is our nominee, we are going to see some swift boat group pick up that theme and POUND Huckabee with it. Willie Horton II.

If you live in Iowa, especially, it's something to think about.

Disclaimer: I'm with Fred

Not sure why there is more concern about who produced the video than the content of the video. If the producer is identified, what does it change?

Either the events happened, or they didn't. Either there is a good reason for the intervention for parole, or there isn't.

This is not about some high school kid who was smoking dope, a la Obama. It's about the actions of a governor.

Yeah, I'm with Fred, too.

Technically, it is a dirty trick. Technically, Huckabee had nothing -- and by Arkansas law could have nothing -- to do with the parole of Dumond.

True, Huckabee wanted they guy released. But, instead of simply pardoning the fellow -- which he rejected several times -- he thought Dumond should be under the supervision of a parole officer.

Leaders need to make tough decisions -- which Huckabee has done both to release people and to have them executed. A leader must live with those decisions and no amount of regret can change the unforeseen results of those decisions.

It seems tawdry to exploit the grief of a mother for political gain. Yes, exploit. Blaming someone for a loved one's death helps some people deal with the lose. It's easier to target your anger at one man than a parole board -- especially when you have that man's political enemies whispering in your ear.

And, I might add... who would have thought that a castrated man would reoffend?

....but didn't the victim's mother WANT this ad released? I'm pretty sure she is dedicated to derailing Huck's candidacy.

“.....women and minorities hardest hit”

who would have thought that a castrated man would reoffend?

People don't commit violent crimes because they have testicles. Why would you assume he's safe to let loose on the streets now that he doesn't have them?

BTW, he was apparently involved in the murder of a man back in the 70s and was given a pass because he testified against a couple other people. He was not a nice guy.

"Huckabee had nothing -- and by Arkansas law could have nothing -- to do with the parole of Dumond."

That's interesting, I didn't know it was against the law in Arkansas for a governor to pressure the parole board to release a murderer. I haven't heard that before.

"A leader must live with those decisions and no amount of regret can change the unforeseen results of those decisions."

Unforseen?? Here are the contents of Dumond's file that Huck reviewed. Read those letters and tell me how this was unforseen? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/12/10/huckabeedumond-files-le_n_76188...
By the way, the evidence suggests that Huck pardoned this guy because his Huck's pastor friend said Dumond was saved (i.e., accepted Jesus as his personal Savior). That fact seemed to outweigh all of the others in Huck's decision making.

"who would have thought that a castrated man would reoffend?"

Is there some evidence that castrating someone prevents reoffending? If so I haven't heard of it.

I see no mention of Krempasky asking for the GOVERNMENT to hunt down the anonymous, just that he wouldn't be able to hide it anyways, man up and come on out with it "I did it, and I'm proud of it."

"Internet musings are one thing, but when local Republicans opposed to Huckabee recently asked their Democratic friends to share the opposition research files from previous races involving Huckabee, they were told "no." In fact, one Republican was told in response to repeated requests, that they were saving the material for Hillary."

More evidence that Huck has a glass jaw.

and name a particular candidate.

I've got to listen to his stupid schpeel on steroids and KMOX here in St. Louis is playing it over Limbaugh.

but I think this is a great ad to which Huck has been giving lousy answers to.
I wish the person would come who did this ad. There is no shame. Even if it is another camphaign did it. If it is the facts then all is fair.

"I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harm's way."
John Paul Jones (letter to M. Le Ray de Chaumont,16 Nov.1778)

One of my big fears about the accelerated primary process that we are having in this cycle is that we are going to choose a candidate too early without adequate vetting. And that after the choice is made and there is no opportunity to reverse course, negative information that is going to harm our candidate is going to come to light and we are going to go into the General Election with damaged goods.

I think it is better that the electorate see all the damaging material sooner rather than later so that the Primary vetting process yields a strong candidate. The sooner and the stronger these guys go negative the sooner we will find out which candidates can stand up to the heat.

Its funny how the worm has turned. In one respect, I agree that if you are going to attack someone, at least you should be man enough to stand up. On the other hand, wasn't it Huckabee supporters who just recently been doing push pulling and anti Mormon attacks.

What Kripto is talking about is different than the earlier anti-mormon stuff. As I recall Huck's supporters did this stuff during the week of Mitt's speech so it didn't seem to get much press time.

Great ad! We knew it was coming.

For those of you who think this will be a general election issue…

The parole board is responsible for the release of Dumond. They were all appointed to their jobs by Bill Clinton and Jim Guy Tucker, both democrats. Jim Guy Tucker commuted his sentence making Dumond parole eligible. The people most responsible for his release are the seven board members and the governors who appointed them to their jobs. Also, the letter on the ad leaves out the end where he denies his clemency/pardon.

"Dear Wayne, I have reviewed your applications for executive clemency, specifically a commutation and/or pardon. ... My desire is that you be released from prison. I feel now that parole is the best way for your reintegration into society. ... Therefore, after careful consideration ... I have denied your applications."
The Governor's approach to the DuMond case has been consistent. As he expressed in the letter, he did believe that DuMond should be released from prison. However, he denied clemency/pardon FOUR TIMES. Even after the Board granted parole with the out-of-state stipulation, Governor Huckabee denied two subsequent clemency requests. DuMond could not find a state which would take him, so he remained in prison for TWO MORE YEARS. It was during this time that the Governor continued to deny him clemency.
If the Governor was actively seeking to release DuMond, he could have easily done so by granting him clemency. He did not do so.

There isn't much to it.

The Victims mom the Voice over, a few backgrounds etc. It looks like something you could do with Movie Maker and a good camera.

that deserves scrutiny.

What is his approach to pardons/clemency in general. Too lenient, too harsh, just right?

Of course, given the analytic power of the MSM and the stridency of this year's violations of the 11th Commandment, I'm not expecting too much useful info.

The Wayne Dumond travesty is only 1 piece in the puzzle. There are so many reasons to not support Huckabee. I am baffled by his resiliency but it does support my theory of the the ignorance of the average voter.
