And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there; And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
. . . .
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias. And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:8 NASB
Mel Gibson has been an interesting figure whose overall body of work could not really be said to be edifying toward the Kingdom of God. That said, 'The Passion of the Christ' wipes the slate clean for me. It was extraordinarily inspired, courageous, honest, unblinking in the face of fierce opposition at the time -- and for me personally (and I trust, some others) brought home in an unforgettable, life-altering way, both the cost of my sin, and the bottomless depth of love that compelled both the Father and the Son to gladly bear that cost.
It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?
I remember reading/hearing a sermon one time that discussed the original greek/hebrew text of this gospel.
The gist of the sermon was that when Jesus "cried again with a loud voice", the words used in the original could be/were transcribed to mean a loud cry of....Victory!
His mission was complete, he had conquered death and paid the price for all of our sins. He was victorious. He had won the fight and cried out in victorious joy.
I think about that from time to time.
Thanks for reminding me.
A blessed Easter to all Red Staters.

I remember a wonderful sermon called "It's Friday... but Sunday's Coming!"
The wondrous thing about the Good News is that, though Friday night was black and hopeless, Sunday brought the Light that extinguishes all Darkness and the Hope that rescues all who think they are beyond hoping.
Glory!
