McCain's Shiv: politics as usual?

Glenn Reynolds thinks that it is, and even suggests that the White House is in on it.

Which would be amusing, if true. I mean, I already knew that these days the GOP has to carry water on both sides of any given debate in order to make it interesting (God knows that you can't expect the Democrats to do it without constant consultation of their Oracles - excuse me; polls); I just hadn't realized that BDS has gotten so bad that you can't even count on a competent Bush-bash unless you do it yourself...

And it's a mistake. This is a battle of ideas we are engaged in, not simply a political party doing whatever it takes to win in 2006 or even 2008. To bash Bush just because he is expendable is very shortsighted. Mr. Bush deserves a lot of criticism for a lot of things. But to criticize him for short term political gain is definitely not one of them. If you believe in the war in Iraq, and how Bush is handling it, make your case! Don't pull a stunt like this alleged one which agrees with his (and your) detractors.

With Bush coming out for the morning after pill, it sure does seem like Karl Rove is at work, winking at the libs and saying "see, really we are just like you. Just let us keep fooling our 'base'."

Wink, wink.

I haven't even bothered to read what McCain had to say about Iraq. I really just have no interest in hearing what he has to say, because I doubt seriously that he's saying anything helpful at all. Actually, come to think about it, that seems to go for almost anything he says nowadays.

There is no theory of evolution, just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.

It's been - what - 3 whole weeks since Johnny Mac has had something nice written about him in Pravda on the Hudson. We all know he cannot go that long without saying or doing somehing that will rectify said universal imbalance.

It's just an itch he needs scratched. Often.

"I don't know." -- Helen Thomas, when asked by White House spokesman Scott McClellan, "Are we at war, Helen?"

This same pathetic need for attention will drive McCain to a third party bid if he doesn't get the GOP nomination. A friend recently said the senator's career probably would end with literal self-immolation if there were no other way to attract a camera.
