Murtha finds military progress in trip to Iraq
Warns that Iraqis must do more for their own security
By Jerome L. Sherman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. John Murtha today said he saw signs of military progress during a brief trip to Iraq last week, but he warned that Iraqis need to play a larger role in providing their own security and the Bush administration still must develop an exit strategy.

"I think the 'surge' is working," the Democrat said in a videoconference from his Johnstown office, describing the president's decision to commit more than 20,000 additional combat troops this year. But the Iraqis "have got to take care of themselves."

What's changed? Oh, right, we're coming up on an even-numbered year. Read on.

I'm sure that you'll pardon the cynicism of the above - but, really, what other conclusion is there to make? Okinawa Jack Murtha may be by many standards an abject fool, but he's been sucking at the public teat for over thirty years: you can't survive that long without knowing how to sniff the breeze. And right now that breeze is telling him that it's an excellent time to get some daylight between him and the more doctrinaire elements of the antiwar movement.

Right on schedule, might I add. And will probably work, more's the pity. Then again, the man's made quite a career out of treachery*; I suppose that it's unreasonable to hope that he wouldn't be any good at it.

Anyway, I understand that Murtha did quite well for himself out of contributions in 2006. How proud his online supporters must feel right now, to know that their money bought nothing in particular. Well, probably not proud, but there's no justification for them to feel surprised. And no, he won't give you your money back. In his eyes, you never really possessed it in the first place; you were only holding on to it for him until he needed it...

What? That's what commodities are for, netrooters. Be grateful that they see you as sheep to be sheared, not corn to be plucked.

*Which is probably why every Marine I know refers to this guy as an "ex-Marine," which I'm given to understand is an insult normally guaranteed to start a fight. Hope it was worth it, Okinawa Jack.

wish we could court marshal this unfit ex soldier not worthly
of Marine. Semper Fi to brothers on duty

The surge must be working indeed for even this great and honorable gentleman to notice it.
Will he please now advise Reid and Pelosi to go ahead and fund the war the Congress voted for?

Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can find a rock.

And not in a few other people's names that will soon start to take credit. Allow me to write the first press release:

"Democrat pressure on President Bush, including the threat to remove troops and war funding, has made Bush abandon the failed strategies of the past in favor of the "surge". The efforts of Democrats also frightened the Iraqi governement into unity and comity, and cemented the gains made by the brave troops we have supported from the beginning.

We look forward to working with the Iraqi government during the Hillary Clinton administration, and will be forwarding the address of the Democrat National Committee so that the grateful citizens of the country we saved from the dictator Saddam will be able to address their 'thank you' cards properly."

proudly declainming our defeat and the need to retreat:

"Look at all the people that have been displaced, all the [lost] oil production, unemployment, all those type of things,” said Rep. John P. Murtha, chairman of Appropriations defense subcommittee. “We can’t win militarily.”

actually...it WAS just a few days ago. Nov 20, 2007,to be exact.

Well. What a difference a few days in the war zone, and a reality check, and perhaps a look at a few polls makes, eh Congressman?

I actually despise Murtha even more than I despise Nancy and Harry, and others of their ilk, because Murtha is a veteran, he has been on Armed Services for aeons, he should know better.

And lots of other things but not a statesman.

This should be sound bite number one for any Republican discussing the War and whether we should continue. When the Surrender-Monkey-in-Chief admits progress there is no leg for any of the Reid-Pelosi "out now" gang to stand on.

Even Traitor Jack sees that the Surge is working. Now the Republicans in those "blue dog" districts need to use that to insure that either there allegedly conservative Democrat congressmen vote for the necessary funding or that those Democrats face merciless attack for continuing to push for retreat and surrender.
