Should we take the lefties seriously about any of this?

I saw General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker testify before a joint hearing of the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees, on a day when the lefty outfit MoveOn.org informed us that they think Petraeus has cooties. It was childish beneath the dignity of adult Americans, much less a four-star general in the U.S. Army, a commander entrusted with the operation and care of our nation's soldiers.

The general premise of the Democrats was that General Petraeus's report – which mentioned past progress, future hope, and American optimism – had to have been edited by the Bush Administration. The general, they offered, was engaged in a political game at the end of George W. Bush's strings.

The general and the ambassador are hopeful that the United States will be successful in this endeavor. Most Democrats offered the argument that if we leave now, the Iraqis, ready or not, will have to act to stop some Iraqis from killing other Iraqis and to stop al Qaeda from convincing some Iraqis to kill other Iraqis. The notion is insane, of course, but the Democrats do not believe this.

For the Democrats, this is about electoral gains. If Bush fails, they reason, they'll pick up X Senate seats, Y House seats, and the Presidency. They are tacitly arguing that the United States will survive just fine if we are perceived as militarily weak. (Heck, diplomacy combined with an absence of a spine has served France well, right?) They are arguing that our military's enthusiasm and moral will be fine if Congress pulls the plug and again forces them to lose a war. (After all, I suppose, it's just politics.)

I had hoped that the Vietnam War's protestors, the ones who lied about our troops and spat at them upon their return stateside had been so vilified by history and humanity that our nation and our nation's soldiers would never again be put through this. Well, the press has made those shabby people retrograde trendy, servants of a "noble cause." Too many today are driven toward a nostalgia for the unthinkable, and good causes are sacrificed in hopes of temporal political gain.

This strikes me as just so sad. They are attacking General Petraeus, putting a smiley face on bin Laden, and desecrating the Vietnam War memorial for reasons most of them do not understand. So many pawns trying to do so much damage.

But we hold it within our power to hold this madness at the level at which it currently exists: that of a very bad pseudo-documentary/training vid. Their warped version of reality, where adolescent political games are won if wars and lives are lost, is a bit too ugly to be allowed to become real. I trust humanity too much to believe that they would actually go through with this were it possible. It's a game, and as long as it doesn't mean aught more than some silly protests and babytalk threats, it can be tolerated.

said to Gen. Petraeous today wthout calling hem out in blunt terms that do not end or beging with calling them their "honorable friends."

This silence has gone on for Year 3 of bushlied.

Honorable dems must leave that party if they won't give back campaign money from Move On.org.

The Dem party is more an agent of Move and Kos than vice versa.

This is the same over-the-top stuff we've long come to expect from people who talk nasty behind the anonymity of their keyboards. Now, this playground garbage is going mainstream, to the extent that you'll find it on some editorial pages of a few major dailies or on NBC's football broadcasts on Sunday evenings.

And I agree with you that the Dems who hold office should be forced to either distance themselves from this or underscore it: sink or swim.

It's a shame, though.

Several media outlets (including USA Today) have asked Clinton and Obama for their reaction to the Moveon.org ad in the NYT today. The silence is deafening. I would also like to know what they think of a newspaper that would accomodate an anti-military, and, dare I say, anti-American ad like this on a day of immense importance to our country, and a day before the 9-11 anniversary.

Although you didn't mention his name, I got the reference to the Sunday evening NBC football broadcast. Here is his latest journalistic gem:

"Al Qaeda really hurt us, but not as much as Rupert Murdoch has hurt us, particularly in the case of Fox News. Fox News is worse than Al Qaeda — worse for our society. It’s as dangerous as the Ku Klux Klan ever was."

- Keith Olbermann in the October 2007 issue of Playboy…

MSNBC and NBC have no problem with their journalists spewing this type of hate speech, but let some pro-military, pro-American group want to present their views through paid ads, and they are shown the door:

that might be considered patriots, based on what I'm seeing on various blogs tonight. Anyone think they have found a long list?

to change the whole culture of pariotism in this country, a culture that has developed based on how long its been since wwii and the radicalization of much of the baby boomers by the left in the 60s that have now come of age.

If a few snators would break the code of the Senate and act on the code of America, and call out a dem ON LIVE TV FOR THEIR UNPATRIOTIC STATEMENTS (OR THEIR SILENCE IN THE FACE OF OR REFUSAL TO DENOUNCE THEIR OWN DEM COLLEAGUES), BY THAT LABEL, THAT EMBOLDEN THE ENEMY AND SCARE ALLIES, AND AD THAT THEY ARE CAUSING MORE AMERICANS TO DIE.

AND NOT BACK DOWN.

A whole lot of Americans would cheer and be emboldened to call it out amongst their friends and we would get back to what most Americans want in their heart but don't se affirmed in the media and culture.

covers this entire day for many of us. What really makes this even worse is that it occurs less than 24 hours before the 6th remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001. Words fail me when I try to express how completely clueless these people are. I have no idea what color the sky is in the world they inhabit, nor how many moons there are in said sky. I just know they don't live in the same world that I do.

There is only one power on Earth that can stop the United States military. And that would be the United States Democrat Party--if we allow it.

on returning vets is a myth. There isn't a single documented case of it happening.

but there are military veterans that say you are wrong. I'm one of them. What exactly is a documented case supposed to mean, one is supposed to find the nearest policeman and show him the evidence?

the hard left has pushed this meme for some time.

here are a few facts

http://www.newsbusters.org/node/10594

Molon Labe!

History books are written by the winners, and thus far, the Left has been the winner in this country...ever since Vietnam.

The Left owns Academia and the MSM, and therefore, THEY get to revise history as is necessary!

Chavez is NOT a dictator and it was Gorachev that ended the Cold War...see?

I tricked them and got a degree anyway :)

Molon Labe!

    Spitting

Does throwing acid in their faces count? That one's documented; the bastige was convicted and sentenced on an assault charge. I know this because I testified at his trial. I could do that because I saw him do it. That was just before I was (very briefly) blinded by his acid. This event occurred on April 5, 1969 in San Francisco, CA.

Drink Good Coffee. You can sleep when you're dead.

since the mid 1960s. Most of us veterans did not face what you did. Since it was pre AIDs scares, the spit just got wiped off.
Glad to hear that you were able to get him convicted. Wish we could have gotten every one of them. Most of us just wanted to get home. Glad you weren't hurt worse, Thanks for sharing your story.

scroll down half way on the page to the video of a vet tell the story soon after it happened.

Molon Labe!

there hasn't been a "single" documented case. There have been a lot more than a "single" case.

But don't let the facts get in the way of a really good lefty meme. Just pardon those of us who have seen it when we laugh in your face.

"A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling

For my purposes, "spat at them upon their return stateside" was rhetorical device used to describe the dishonorable treatment of our returning veterans by the rabid American left of that day.

citizen Democrats I mean, not politicians -- understand the problem with the MoveOn ad. It's a sad, angry day for them, too. Maybe the party centrists will finally wake up and say "Enough!!"

I certainly hope they do. The state of the Democratic Party right now is frightening. And the weak recent performance by the Republicans has handed the country over to that party. It's not a pretty picture.

We would also like to know your advice for somebody like my daughter, who's going to graduate in two years, advice that you would give a young person.

If this is true, then she deserves some kudos. (I never thought I'd say that...)

the hard left bloggers have been bashing her for weeks. She may just be sticking it in their eyes.

Molon Labe!

She sometimes suffers from decency attacks, and can't quite sign on to the worst of the far left's garbage. She hasn't tried to impose any of this decency on the culture over there, but there are times when she gets nauseated and withdraws from the shannigans

James Hansen - Scott THomas Beauchamp with a PhD.

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

We don't necessarily have to take the left seriously, but they do need to be answered, clearly, point by point. The idea that taking their propoganda seriously would lend credibility to their cause failed us already, leaving Republicans (even anti-war ones) without their senate & house seats.

I think it's part and parcel of Petraus's testimony to follow up on all of these charges and the administration should face down any and all comers, starting with Dems in congress who have adopted this PR campaign.

After hearing the libs accuse Gen. Petraeus of lying, I long for the legalization of duels. It seems the only time these noodle spined weenies have courage is when they assault those who tell the truth. They must be very frightened that his facts will spell the end of their influence and threaten their schemes for obtaining or retaining power. Their comments also show their ignorance of reality. They do not want to be confused with the facts.

Since they obviously do nto believe the general's comments, perhaps we should send them to Iraq...say for a year (shorter than avg deployment). They could be embedded with a front line unit and experience the truth of the report they have lambasted.

I'll bet they wouldn't have to resign like Craig!
