Shuster to Correct His Error Tonight

UPDATE by Mark I.: Newsbusters has the text and a link to the video of the Shuster apology. It was an actual apology.

DAVID SHUSTER: On Monday evening while guest-hosting the 6 p.m. evening hour, I conducted an interview with Tennessee Republican Marsha Blackburn. The congresswoman spoke at length about a newspaper ad that criticized General Petraeus. In what I believed was an effort to examine Representative Blackburn's priorities, I then asked her to name the last soldier from her congressional district killed in Iraq.

She responded "the name of the last soldier killed in Iraq from my district, I do not know." After that response, I identified who I believed to be that fallen soldier, a Tennessean killed in Iraq last month. But according to Pentagon documents, that young man came from a town inside a neighboring congressional district, not from Representative Blackburn's, and for that, I apologize for that mistake.

Management must have really put the screws to him.

You can go here for several updates, including an email from David Shuster in which he says, in effect, that the name was irrelevant, Blackburn's failure to answer is proof she doesn't care about soldiers.

In any event, David Shuster will be on with Tucker Carlson tonight at 6pm EDT where he will "apologize." I put apologize in quotes because I suspect it'll be something more akin to his email, in other words, admitting he got the name wrong, but she couldn't give any names so she really does not care.

We'll see.

Ed's Note: I've changed the title from "apologize" to "correct his error" because I'm pretty sure he won't be apologizing. He sees nothing wrong with using dead American soldiers to attack Republicans after all.

But only Republicans.

I have no clue what Schuster will do, but I will say this. I took the time to send him an e-mail and convey my personal displeasure with his sandbagging antics. Additionally, I sent an e-mail to Corporate GE and advised them they should demand standards from their on-air hosts that preclude them from recklessly disparaging someone as they did with Representative Blackburn. The point I made to Schuster was that he didn't know the name of that soldier either until one of his flukies looked it up for him. And even then, they got the story wrong. I'm watching tonite; I want to hear this.

I was so miffed I sent this e-mail to Shuster today:

"Dear Mr. Shuster,

Your superciliousness backfired on you the other day when you tried to nail a congresswoman to the wall with a bogus assertion. No doubt you have learned that the deceased soldier is not from her district. I call upon you to do the decent thing and apologize.

Also, you should be ashamed of yourself for appropriating the tragic loss of one of our young men in Iraq for your own
political/professional agenda. Can you recite every name of every soldier killed in Iraq? Does that make you any less of a human being? No.It is quite possible to feel empathy and respect without being privy to such information.

It is not the congresswoman who is unfeeling or stubbornly partisan, it is YOU. And that is even worse considering the fact that she is a politician, and can be expected to be a partisan, but you are a journalist and hide behind the cloak of objectivity. That cloak has been ripped away, and you, sir, are standing naked.

Reclaim your honor and apologize at once."

Too strong?

I would suggest that when writing to somebody who gets alot of email (and today this punk does, but probably not normally)...

....be succinct. Three sentences max, no big words, very direct and to the point.

It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?

is if she had known the name and said it, and then he accused her of making it up since he KNEW it was someone else.

It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?

I will be somewhat measured in my remarks, not only in deference to posting rules but since that is a hallmark of this side.

I suspect more people have read about Shuster today than see his show in a week. He is manifestly spawned from crossing a media whore with acceptable liberal decorum.I find that truly sad and despicable.

I care not that Representatives are able to recite soldiers name as if it's game show trivia. I care more that their memories, purpose and accomplishments are respected. That means more than some perverse PR stunt which cheapens their memory with each recitation.

Ask a soldier who has served in Iraq how they feel about potentially paying the ultimate sacrifice; I suspect their responses will sound very much the same.

Me? I am off to the best forum in which ask one to remember their names; church.

I love the amount of debate here for dumb arse stuff.

DEMOCRAT TROLLS RULE WHOOOOOOOO!!!!

YEAH WHOOOO!!!!!!

Blackburn, you suck!!!

WHOOOOO!!!!!

Begin the flames.

It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?

...that the above was not altered. Apparently "Democrat trolls" only want us to call them "Democratic trolls;" they reserve the other formulation for themselves, it seems. Fascinating.

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!

He apologized for his researchers error, and him broadcasting it. He didn't apologize to Representative Blackburn for sandbagging her; nor did he apologize to the family of the fallen soldier for using his good name as a show prop. An absolute gutless slug; typical of the mindless mob at MSNBC.

for using his good name as a show prop".

Never going to happen. They've gotten by with it for 30 some years and it just gets worse.

He sees nothing wrong with using dead American soldiers to attack Republicans after all. But only Republicans.

Hey Erick, if you wanted to use them to attack democrats, how would you do it?

I prefer to let the troops do it in their own words.

That's not what our side does. We don't "use dead American soldiers" at all.

When we are attacking dhimmi-crats, mostly we just use the stupid words that come out of their mouths, sort of a linguistic jujitsu. Or the bribes they take, or the attacks from their lap-yorkies in the press.

It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?

I long ago came to the conclusion that shuster was a nasty little crapweasel without any shred of intellect or morality. That conclusion has been substantiated once again.

BTW, can I say crapweasel?

one of my favorite words.
