The Guardian: Saddam and Bin Laden - A Marriage Made In Hell.

A Trip Down The Memory Hole

In honor of the return to the recommended list of Steven Foley's November 2006 diary reminding us that the Democrats once believed that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the world.

This is to remind us that when we see journalists or their professional cheerleaders publicly castigating themselves, slapping their foreheads and shedding hot tears for believing the Administration's "lies" about Iraq, Saddam, WMD, terrorism and everything else, that they're hoping and praying we do not remember reports like this;

The Western nightmare: Saddam and Bin Laden versus the world

Iraq's half-built chemical arsenal, and the planet's most prolific terrorist - Julian Borger and Ian Black on a marriage made in hell

Saturday February 6, 1999
The Guardian

It must have been a bitterly cold and uncomfortable journey. In the last days of December, a group of Iraqi officials crossed the Hindu Kush border from Pakistan to Afghanistan on their way to keep an appointment deep in the remote eastern mountains.

At the head of the group was a man by the name of Farouk Hijazi, President Saddam Hussein's new ambassador to Turkey and one of Iraq's most senior intelligence officers. He had been sent on one of the most important assignments of his career - to recruit Osama bin Laden.

Thus the world's most notorious pariah state, armed with its half-built hoard of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, tried to embrace the planet's most prolific terrorist. It was the stuff of the West's millennial nightmares, but United States intelligence officials are positive that the meeting took place, although they admit that they have no idea what happened.

This was not the first time that President Saddam had offered Mr Bin Laden a partnership ...

More below the fold ...

But ... according to the men and women of the Washington Press Corps, Bush made it all up. Bin Laden would never ever ever had considered allying himself with Saddam Hussein and nobody ever thought it was possible that it could happen.

Except for lying Intelligence and Bush Administration officials in 1999.

According to The Guardian, "Most analysts believe, however, that the ideological differences between the Iraqis and the terrorists were insurmountable. The talks are thought to have ended disastrously for the Iraqis, as bin Laden rejected any kind of alliance, preferring to pursue his own policy of global jihad, or holy war."

ie. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.
Now what about the current news that BushCo is working with the jihadist in Lebanon to work against Hezb'allah and Iranian interest and that is why Negropointe resigned.

Here is another tidbit from the Guardian that is just as relevant:
--
Santa Claus, aka St Nicholas, admits that his work is hard, which is not surprising as he is now 1,731 years old. Santa was born in Lycia, Turkey, in 270 AD, and became Bishop of Myra.

Despite his venerable age, he does not receive a pension.

'I don't need the money,' he says. 'All my toys are made with love and magic, and I'm rather portly now so I don't need to eat very much.
--
And those folks a WashPo says he doesn't exist, with all this proof.

Time's up. It's been real and it's been fun and it ain't been real fun.

and one chance only.

Where does anyone say that Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11?

it is 8:48 EST. I need an answer by 10am EST.

Snarkiness without the intelligence to back it up is usually a very very big mistake in these parts, SkinTight.

Intellectual featherweights may prosper at Kos ... but this is an entirely different ballgame. Are you absolutely certain you really want to tangle with the folks here? Because I hope for your sake that you know it is better to be silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

i.e. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

Interesting non-sequitur. Or straw man. Or just a knee-jerk. Like Tourettes.

I mean, considering that nobody actually made that argument, I'm wondering if you are one of those rare people who are capable of navigating the internet but nonetheless lack basic reading comprehension skills.

I provided not just an excerpt, I also provided cites, dates and, most importantly, a link.

Where are yours? And what article are you citing?

Its reasonable to conclude that if we had taken a completely pacifistic stance after 9/11 we wouldn't be involved in Iraq today. The Taliban wasn't part of AQ, so yes the Afghanis should have been left to run their country the way they wanted without our interference.

We probably could have negotiated with the Taliban after 9/11 for the surrender of Bin Laden and AQ. Perhaps they just needed something more compelling than "If you don't we are going to come over there and kill everyone of you". I can't think of what it might have been but with some effort we could have found something.

Of course most of us knew the Santa Claus article was a joke meant for Liberals and Children.

another terrorist organization and they couldn't close the deal, that doesn't make him a boy scout.

As for the Guardian, I understand they have added the following to the Book of Common Prayer:

and, lo, the woman did delight in the fruits of the Garden, until the Evil Tempter did appear. And he did beguile her into Sin with his winning ways and cunning speech. And so George W Bush proclaimed unto the woman: "Taste of the fruit and be like God, for I am a uniter and not a divider, and doth scorn the division that has sundered God from man."

And the rest of the faith is history. Sermons can be had with each issue of The Guardian.

and in a cute, juvenile sort of way!!
