The Leaker Identified

The leaker of a classified National Intelligence Estimate to the New York Times has been identified as a Democrat staffer named Larry Hanauer. No other info is available on this cretin but he would seem to be this Larry Hanauer. A Clinton staffer in Department of Defense who was punted shortly after President Bush came into office.
Predictably, Jane Harman has demanded that he be reinstated. This is extraordinarily sad as Harman is one of a handful of Congressional Democrats who should actually be allowed in the same building with classified information. That her first inclination is to protect someone who probably committed a felony simply provides another good reason as to why the Democrats are not fit to govern.
The only good news out of this is that committee chairman Peter Hoekstra may be losing his sense of humor at the hijinx. He responded to Harman in a letter which in part reads:
"It has become clear to me, by your continuing and unauthorized releases of information received and maintained by the Committee, that Democrats are not willing to protect committee information, and that you are politicizing intelligence for purposes not reflecting national security values."
One can only hope that after sixteen years the Republicans finally learn to act like they are the majority party in the House and we can only hope that the wake-up call that we are not all on the same side has not come too late.

leaked the information?
I hope Hoekstra continues in his efforts to tell her where to shove her appal.
From the article:
"I have no credible information to say any classified information was leaked from the committee's minority staff, but the implications of such would be dramatic," LaHood said in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press. "This may, in fact, be only coincidence, and simply 'look bad.' But coincidence, in this town, is rare."
The officials said that the National Intelligence Estimate was marked "secret," rather than "top secret" or another more restrictive classification. As a result, thousands of people across government would have had access to it, including the intelligence, armed services and international relations committees of the House.
In a response to Harman's letter, dated Friday, Hoekstra said that the suspension wasn't necessarily "a determination that wrongdoing has actually occurred," and asked for Harman's cooperation.
It seems like the only "evidence" is that the staffer requested the document three days before it was leaked.
People in my family suffer from all three, and we are perfectly content to stay ethical while seeking cures and treatments.
Please change your tag line. I find it presumptive, condescending and highly offensive.
You were escorted from the room nicely once. You had the option to petition for a comeback.
Instead, this. So sad, Jo-Jo.
Well, I'm not going down over killing Jo-Jo The Tireman.
But you're going. Next time, we flush your IP.

Even those who learn from history are surrounded by those doomed to repeat it.
It's a precautionary move, designed to protect the security of the classified information. I'm presuming the staffer is still being paid, and still has access to his government health care and other benefits. (Has Harmon complained that Hoekstra's action means the staffer can no longer pay his bills or feed his family?)
Does Ms. Harmon assert that the staffer has a right to this classified information? Well, there's no such thing. Only "trusted people" receive access to classified information. If your bosses begin to suspect you in any way, it is their DUTY to suspend your access until the issue is resolved. It is NOT the case where the government has to PROVE that the staffer should lose access. No, the staffer has to make his bosses comfortable that they can trust him with the information, without question. No such trust, no access.
Or, maybe Harmon feels that the staffer's self-esteem is being damaged? That he's being disrespected? Oh well...too bad. Let Soros send him to a spa for self-esteem sessions and hot mud baths while the investigation runs its course.

This is extraordinarily sad as Harman is one of a handful of Congressional Democrats who should actually be allowed in the same building with classified information.
Methinks it's time to ReWrite that to reflect reality:
This is extraordinarily sad as Harman is was one of a handful of Congressional Democrats who should actually be allowed in the same building with classified information.
therefore why shouldn't it be leaked, it's only a secret.
I am wiling to wait and see the outcome of the investigation regardless of who leaked it. In the meantime Hastert should resign for Rep Foley not having sex with a page.
Fair's fair, wait for one destroy the other!
"a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville
...is also fighting to keep her status as top Democrat on the committee against Nancy Pelosi and Alcee Hastings. She may feel that she has to go a little moonbat to be able to keep that slot.
but a prison cell would do quite nicely, thank you very much.
Proud to be: politically incorrect, straight, white, pro-life Christian, and of the opinion the spotted owl tastes just like chicken.
Don't you know the real treason was over Valerie Plame.
This is nothing, just like leaking the money tracking or NSA program or the CIA air transport or the other things the MSM has leaked are nothing. The only security issue that counts is Plame.
How dare us Republicans interfere in the free flow of doctored anti-American informaiton that puts our soldiers and civilian lives at risk?
Frankly I think this may be too little too late.
We should have dropped the hammer years ago. Berger should have been put through the wringer. Gorelick should have been tossed off the 911 commission.
Democrats can't be allowed to win. They simply can't. One shudders to think what sort of classified documents and other important info relating to the GWoT they'd have access to as the majority. Do we really want all of it to end up on the front page of the NY Times?
Do we really HAVE to have elections in a couple of weeks?
King Bush plans to call it off.
Besides, Carl is not done "Outing" CIA agents, we need a tame congress for him to continue on his path to world domination by ruining the CIA one agent at time.
Did I miss any of your favorite claims?
Now are you happy...happy...happy?

Another South Park Republican spouting off !
Because the media certainly isn't going to talk about the rest of the letter, where Hoestrka talks about not having any proof to back up his claims.
You're right guys, this is a real winning for the GOP.
this isn't about winning for the GOP. This is about people who have pledged to safeguard secrets leaking them for political reasons or for personal payback.
Hoekstra admitted there's no evidence against this staffer.
Please don't respond by saying "in my mind".
"Who will stand/On either hand/And guard this bridge with me?" (Macaulay)
My mistake. It was another Republican on the panel, Ray LaHood, not Hoekstra, who said there was no evidence:
"In an interview yesterday, Mr. LaHood conceded he had no evidence of a leak beyond the coincidence of timing."
NY Times, Oct. 21, 2006
The article also notes that the original NY Times story on the NIE used 10 or more sources; there was not a single leaker. Lots of people wanted it out.
Or, are you stretching things a bit to make it seem that Hoekstra is on a witchhunt?
My money is on Option 2
"Who will stand/On either hand/And guard this bridge with me?" (Macaulay)
people leaked the document?
I don't think the NYT says that at all, in fact I know it doesn't.
Try reading the articles before making an argument based on them.
It would be a start.
Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

Good job. Finally, some Republicans appear to be taking the glvoes off. I only wish other GOPers would take the offensive in these last couple weeks like Hoekstra is doing.
Peter Hoekstra in 2008??
