It's good to know that they use "WTF," too.

Part 1: Socrates writes a diary titled Save the Whales - Nuke Iceland! which is actually supportive of Icelandic whaling efforts.

Part 2: An Icelandic blog that seems to be similar to Fark links this story, apparently not understanding that we do not, in fact, advocate nuclear war with Iceland.

Part 3: Hilarity ensues in the comments.

Ah, the internets... bringing the world together.

Open thread.

P.S. - If anyone can translate the sentence that appears on the Icelandic blog after "Save whales NUKE Iceland," we'd be very eternally grateful. Thanks.

UPDATE: A commenter informs us that the Icelandic text is "Harsh words toward us."

Hopefully this won't spark a showdown with Iceland, what with our military being engaged elsewhere.

of M1A1 armour and body armour in cold extremes against harpoons???

Apparently there have been meetings recently--results somewhat inconclusive.

Someone needs to show some compassion and find a translator. :/ It was a clear misunderstanding.

Highest number of bars per capita in the world and highest percentage of babies born out of wedlock. Coincidence? Perhaps. Regardless, it is a great place to party!

Oh yeah, and the hottest women you'll ever see who generally think they have a pretty poor selection of men. Kinda like DC actually (at least the second half of that anyway).

by be nice, I didn't mean poke them with a stick or imply stereotypes about them. It's starting to look mean-spirited and I have no idea what the point is about going off on Iceland on a site about Conservative values.

"I'm just beginning...The pen's in my hand...Ending unplanned"

When I think about Iceland, it kind of makes me want to smile. Isolated, peaceful, but modern and forward-thinking.

I wish I'd said that, too.

...a friend who used to live there. She said the beaches were completely undeveloped (probably not worth the investment for three days of fun in the sun a year) so there wasn't anywhere to change clothes. As a result, one of the most useful things she learned from her stay there was how to change clothes in public without ever getting nekkid.

Kinda makes you wonder why there aren't more Icelandic gymnasts.

Socrates' post, which started this whole thing, went out of its way to be supportive of Iceland.

In response, Iceland forced hordes of angry commenters upon us.

This is the kind of situation in which all you can really do is laugh.

Albert Pujols once killed a whale with his bare hands.

was Chuck Norris --- Norris killed the whale that is, Pujols didn't kill Norris :-)

that Pujols killed Osama Bin Laden with his magic baseball bat. but I think that's just an urban legend on the Cardinals ESPN messgae board. my own research suggests he borrowed Paul Bunyan's axe to do the deed.

It was a day game in St. Louis a while back. Osama got mad about the Budweiser signs (it's Busch Stadium, after all), and Albert thumped him on the side of the head. It was just a little tap, but the Leader of the Jihad and World's Greatest Whitney Houson Fanboy went sailing over the right field fence, plowing a whole through the upper deck, out over downtown StLouis, right through the Arch and into the Big Muddy.

He was last seen cursing the heathen gambling boats and bubbling something about not needing to swim in the desert.

This space intentionally left blank.

when will Vice Presiden Cheney be forced to release the names of the Icelandic fisheries directors who have visited his office?

Whales Died.

BTW, there is a story in tomorrow's NYT that Halliburton has taken a major stake in the world's largest whale oil production facility. Appparently Cheney has ordered the Air Force to invest in whale oil as an alternative fuel for the B-52 fleet. With this investment Halliburton will control 87.4% of the global whale oil production and will make a fortune.

set to run in the weekend editions says that Karl Rove and Jeb Bush are planning to take a team of special "fishermen" from around Kinnebunkport, Maine, to Iceland, where they will be outfitted with certain laser-guided-whale-sonar listening devices by the CIA.

We will then have the technology to rule the world. Or we would have, if the NYT hadn't gotten the story and stopped the government in its tracks.

a certain "unusual" sense of humor pervading Redstate :-)

They are harboring the international fugitive from justice, Bobby Fischer. Fischer violated US sanctions on Yugoslavia in the '90s when he played a rematch of his 1972 World Championship match with Boris Spassky, and received about $3 million for it.

We can't seem to track down Karazdic and other war criminals from the former Yugoslavia, but we know where Fischer is.

Nuke Iceland - now!

(not the Israeli one) I have to say that from my experience Icelanders are a wonderful people. They like America probably more than any other old Euro nation.

A couple of cheers for whale hunting! :)
