The House Republican leadership says that the Murtha vote is scheduled for 3:30p ET, in the second series of today's scheduled votes. If you're near a TV, a satellite radio, or WCSP, tune in. If you want to listen online, try: HERE.
House Republicans angled Tuesday to put Democrats in a no-win position: reprimand a senior colleagues or be seen as blindly excusing legislative bullying for partisan reasons.
House leaders tentatively scheduled a late Tuesday vote on a Republican move to reprimand Rep. John Murtha, a Pennsylvania Democrat and close ally of House Speaker Hancy [sic] Pelosi, D-Calif. The GOP accuses Murtha of making a blatant threat against a Republican who challenged a pet project that Murtha wanted.
Democratic leaders said they believed they had the votes to kill the motion, but conceded that some party members were unhappy about being pressed to defend a blustery colleague known for bare-knuckled politics.
Okinawa Jack was Nancy's choice to be their leader. Now, either he is reprimanded like a little girl, or his Dem colleagues are seen as defending corruption thus likewise corrupt.
Take your pick. It should be fun.

"No compromise with the main purpose, no peace till victory, no pact with unrepentant wrong." - Winston Churchill
...on one of the Democrats' main anti-war players, streiff, a mark of contempt. It is embarrassing for both the party and the entire anti-war effort.
Deeper, though, what Murtha did was wrong and he should be made to pay for it in whatever manner the House deems appropriate.
If a reprimand were not an option, I might oppose its invention merely for this case; however, Congress critters can be reprimanded for wrongdoing. The House has a reason for this, and it should be exercised for this reason.
I agree with you, of course, that it's good political theater. He deserves it, otherwise I would disagree.
they meaning either the dems or the antiwar movement, were capable of being shamed or embarassed then I'd agree with you. I don't think there is any evidence to support that notion so I think this is a futile, if amusing, gesture.

right off the top of my head...

Murtha's embarrassment will make for some really good campaign fodder should Diana Irey request a rematch in '08.

You forgot the third and most likely option: The reprimand is defeated, and the MSM frames it as a partisan Republican attack while ignoring Murtha's corruption just as they ignored that of Feinstein.
Murtha's reprimand should lead to a promotion soon.

"Murtha Exonerated"
In fact, unless the vote goes against Murtha by some paranatural cause, look for that to be the spin anyway.
No more than one or two Ds will vote to reprimand Murtha unless they know way more than 16 of their coven will, and probably that number would have to be closer to 116.
If the Dems had any sense at all, they would have thrown Murtha under the bus with his full cooperation, had him apologize for speaking in anger, blame the war, and then go on MTP to proclaim how ethical they are.

Gone 2500 years, still not PC.
he may be less crooked than Mollohan and Jefferson. ;-)
Oh and of course there's going to be payback, so the Dems will be itching to launch a similar attack against one or more Republicans.

and I say this deferring to no man in my disgust of and contempt for Jack Murtha.
I just don't see how this moves us forward.
If Murtha gets reprimanded he stays of Appropriations and continues to funnel cash to his brother's company. If he doesn't get reprimanded, ditto.
Don't get me wrong, this is fun and it is great theater. But it doesn't reduce Murtha's power. It doesn't make him vulnerable in 2008. It obviously can't shame him, he proved that in the Abscam investigation. It won't make the US Attorney investigate Murtha's fairly blatant corruption.
