Terrorist Attorney Sentenced To 28 Months

Lynne Stewart, the radical New York civil rights attorney convicted in 2003 of aiding and abetting a terrorist conspiracy, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison.

Stewart and other defendants carried messages between her imprisoned client, Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman also known as the blind sheik, and senior members of an Egyptian-based terrorist organization, helping spread Abdel-Rahman's call to kill those who did not subscribe to his extremist interpretation of Islamic law.

The Sheik was imprisoned for plotting to blow up New York City landmarks.

Stewart should count her lucky stars, she could have been sentenced for up to 30 years in prison.

The judge should have thrown the book at Stewart. As the only U.S. lawyer to be indicted on terrorism charge, she is a disgrace to the legal profession and a danger to America.

Koeltl said he departed from the federal sentencing guidelines because no one was killed or injured as a result of the crimes and because of Sattar's lack of previous crimes and restrictive prison conditions.

I wonder how the judge reached this conclusion.

Participating in terrorism should be giving "aid and comfort" to the enemy.

She is far beyond a sympathizer, she is an active agent and should be hanged.

Nice to know who's side every one is on.

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

. . . the lovely Mrs Stewart engaged in "extraordinarily severe criminal conduct" -- and then went well below federal sentencing guidelines and gave her 28 months, when the government had asked for 30 years.

Thirty years would have kept her where she belongs until the age of 97. Instead, the judge sentenced her to a very minimal sentence, and allowed her to remain free while appealing her conviction. That means at least another year out of prison, and she's already had three years out of prison between her conviction and sentencing.

She's been disbarred, she's in her late 60's and the reason she had not been sentenced earlier was her being treated for breast cancer.30 months won't do her any good, maybe Martha can give her some decorating hints. It's too sad to cry about, might as well laugh.

won't do her any good?

30 years would have done her more bad, though, and bad is what she deserved.

Her disbarment is meaningless. Her defense fund is headed by George Soros. I could care less that she has cancer, except that she should be treated by in prison. The bitch is a traitor and she deserves to be executed not feted at moonbat balls.

This proves one of two things : 1)at the very least, the left does not take the war on terrorists seriously 2) at worst, they are active participants on the side of the terrorists.

The judge in this case has done something inexusable and should be recalled. It owuld be interesting to learn a little more about his background.

A sad day for the legal profession in so many ways.

The judge in this case must be an idiot to give Stewart such a lenient sentence.

I don't know the law on this subject, but I'd guess a sentence so low on the possible range is subject to appeal. The prosecutor is considering an appeal. (Maybe he's pretty much decided to appeal, but just says "considering" until he's ready to officially announce it.)

U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said in a statement that the government was disappointed with Stewart's sentence and would consider an appeal.

This is the kind of justice we can look forward to as we 'prosecute' the jihadis in Gitmo.

Based on moussouai and now stewart, any terrorist passing our legal system has a better chance of dying of old age than suffering from American 'justice'.

spit.

Y'all know what the constitution requires for a charge of treason?

(assuming you don't) Do you even care? Is the constitution at all important to y'all?

Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

...so does aiding a known and convicted terrorist engaged in planning acts of war against the United States of America count? Hey, I was ready to bring that charge against her and see if a jury agreed with me. Then again, I tend to have more sympathies towards the victims of terrorists than I do their enablers. Even when the latter have breast cancer.

to Ms. Stewart. Assuming, of course, that you know how to read and/or care at all about the Constitution.

Nice post for your first day. It usually takes idiots a week or so to prove their single digit IQs. Good job.
