Congress Wants To Fund Hollywood Liberals With Your Money

Today, as the House of Representatives will continue debate on the fiscally irresponsible Democrat Labor/HHS Appropriations Bill (H.R. 3043), which will spend $152 billion in 2008 – $10.6 billion more than what the President requested, $7 billion more than current levels, and $2.3 billion more than the Senate bill.
Tucked away in that bill is an earmark inserted by California Representative Diane Watson, which would direct $300,000 to West Los Angeles College. According to the certification letter provided by Rep. Watson’s office, the funds would “establish a first-of-its-kind entertainment industry craft and technician college job training program to respond to the film and television industry’s immediate need for new, trained employees.” That’s right, Democrats are looking to create a job training program for the Los Angeles entertainment industry.
One might think that with entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, Democrats might at least put up the appearance of fiscal responsibility. Instead, they are bringing the term ‘Hollywood liberal’ to a whole new level.
Americans know this is government waste in the worst possible form – hard working American families don’t send their money to Washington for liberals to establish government programs for students to work on Hollywood movie sets. This is pure common-sense, which is why I will offer an amendment to prohibit funds from being used on this wasteful earmark.
In honor of the Democrat Leadership’s desire to earmark taxpayer dollars to help their Hollywood friends find movie set help, the RSC has helped them compile a top 10 list of Democrat must-see movie rentals this summer:
2) Easy Money
7) Mo’ Money
9) Free Money
10) The Money Pit
What movies would you add?

I'll put in a plug here for a favourite old movie of mine called The Magic Christian from 1969-- stars Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr as a billionaire and a bum; the former adopts the latter and the two of them go around seeing what kinds of bizarre things they can get people to do for money. It also has Graham Chapman and John Cleese (pre-Monty Python!) who make appearances and contribute material.
The movie has no real plot as such, and the climax of the movie is the maiden voyage of a new pleasure cruiser, The Magic Christian-- with such oddities as Christopher Lee as "Ship's Vampire" and Raquel Welsh as "Priestess of the Whip".

It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?

After all, it's not as if the entertainment industry, a worldwide industry in which the United States enjoys leader status, gainfully employs a large number of Americans and can stand to employ more.
The proposal is for a trade school. It has nothing to do with "liberal Hollywood elites." Go hang out with the crew of your typical Hollywood film - gaffers, cameramen, etc. These people are hard working Americans, not boogeymen.
Shouldn't the rich and powerful movie studios and the all-powerful record industry be tapped for the funds instead of the federal government? Or do they not want to pay to train the people who will build their business in the future and instead hand it over to the feds?
There are reasonable arguments to be made on both sides, I'm objecting primarily to the framing of this one. The entertainment industry is not a monolithic liberal entity. This has nothing to do with "Hollywood liberals."

Hey all, I'm somewhat new here...
Quick question. It appears that WLAC is a state run community college that has a number of vocational/trade schools. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Los_Angeles_College)
What is the conservative perspective on the use of federal funds for subsidizing public trade schools and community colleges? Should it be pushed out to the states, localities or should tax dollars not be used at all for such purposes?
Looking forward to your replies...
