My registered status as “Independent Conservative” (well, OK-I added the Conservative part) affords me the freedom to take a verbal hickory switch to whoever has earned such a reward with no regard to the capital letter between their sorry names and the wonderful States they have let down.

I’ve railed with great disdain at the Republicans over the last couple years, and even though I faithfully held my nose (and threw back a shot of Jose), I pulled the lever so to speak for all Republican candidates. I was not surprised (after my hot shower) to see them collectively fall on their faces in November. In taking the loss as poorly as I did, however, I often found myself hoping Nancy and the new kids on the block would choke on their “sweeping” victory. Perhaps I put a pox on them after all. They appear to be doing just that.

I must admit, in my childishness, that I am rather enjoying the events of late.

While my good friend streiff is savoring some hot buttery popcorn, and my other good friend Mark I has decided to follow suit, I am squirting cheez whiz on my ritz and throwing back a cold one… or six.

It don't get much better than this folks, not much better at all.

Our Political Heroes on the left, having departed for their cruise in a so-called New Direction for America on a ship of fools Captained by Senator Harry "real estate tycoon" Reid and first mate Speaker Nancy "I'm the most powerful woman in the world" Pelosi, appear to be finally getting a full taste of the sweetness of victory. And apparently they are choking on it.

Join me on America's shoreline as we wave "buh byes" and wish them a "bon voyage".

More below the fold...

Reality is starting to sink in for the new majority on the Hill, and their ship is starting to take on water. Consider Pelosi's first bill (numerically), HR 1:

This legislation provides for the implementation of the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations remaining after the enactment of the Intelligence Reform bill in 2004. The bill’s provisions include requiring major improvements in aviation security, border security, and infrastructure security; providing first responders the equipment and training they need; beefing up efforts to prevent terrorists from acquiring weapons of mass destruction; and significantly expanding diplomatic, economic, educational, and other strategies designed to counter Islamic terrorism.

Except, the Senate under Reid's imperial wisdom doesn't appear headed for such lofty goals anymore:

For the past two weeks, the Senate has been debating a bill, the Improving America’s Security Act, which professes to strengthen our national security and help protect our country from terrorist threats. In fact, the bill fails to address some of the most important security challenges facing our nation.

Republicans tried to address the bill’s problems by offering a national security package designed to strengthen the legislation. Unfortunately, not only did Democrats demonstrate no interest in improving the bill, they refused to even allow a vote on our proposal.

Odd, I thought SURE I read somewhere that the Democrats would be strong on Security if ONLY we'd give them back the Majority status they insisted was the ONLY thing preventing America from getting meaningful legislation in place to solve all the woes and ills of the world.

They also suggested they would be tough and sensible on issues of Defense and the war on terror, and they assured us they would fight it with all the resources America had at her disposal. Interestingly, by their own admission, Pelosi and her minions continue to suggest that the war on terror is in Afghanistan AND that it’s against Al Qaeda and the Taliban. It matters little that Al Qaeda is in Iraq as well, having been explained away by her cronies as the effect of “Bush’s failed war.”

Everyone KNOWS, after all, that Iraq is lost.

Hither cometh the slow bleed plan under the tutelage of dishonorable ex-Marine John Murtha. If President Bush won’t admit defeat by golly, Murtha certainly will, and he’ll design any plan necessary to make sure of it. His departure from any modicum of Troop support or a show of American strength, capitulating instead to the moonbats and far left lunatics within the party, is a great “inside look” at the hearts and minds and real intentions of your new majority, and is their best first attempt at rewarding those who got them elected. This was to be the delicious dessert at the victory banquet.

Problem. They don’t have the votes. What’s that you say? Why, that’s just not possible! Theirs, after all, was a SWEEPING victory; a message from the vast majority of America that called for SWEEPING change.

I’m confused. Wasn’t it the "Liberal Idiots" that got the Democrats elected in the first place? How can it be possible that these same idiots are now being blamed for preventing their OWN agenda from being enacted?

Pass me another can of cheez whiz please? No no…I’m all set for beer just now…

Let’s not forget the non binding resolutions. First mate Nancy got hers thru, and scared enough RINOs into falling in line, but Capt. Harry was not so fortunate. With all this newfound political capital, the genius couldn’t even get the bill to a vote. At least he is worried enough about security (9/11 bill) to push for collective bargaining rights for TSA employees. Man, I feel safer already.

Next attempt? Why, the House appropriations bill of course.

Understanding the political suicide of de-funding the troops, their latest brainstorm would have the United States instead spend money on a whole host of critically important things such as peanut storage, additional salaries for the House of Representatives, live fish transport across the Canadian border, an FDA Office of Women’s Health, and compensation (bail out for ecoli scare) to spinach growers, along with the old stand-by favorites NO ONE would dare say no to…Children, Katrina victims, and Veterans.

They offer to spend BILLIONS more than the President requested, while sneaking in the withdrawal timetable, scheming that he would appear to care LESS than the Democrats about Soldiers and Veterans were he to veto such a plan. I have not forgotten that the Democrats won back the majority on their lies about the economy, the deficit, and their relentless flailing of a President and a party over their “runaway spending habits,” offering a return to fiscal restraint in the house of corruption. It is not lost on me that they can actually keep a straight face as they offer to spend MORE than the man that spends too much.

The President has promised to veto any such foolishness nonetheless.

Having lost the slow bleed battle, the first mate now stands ready to defiantly back down from yet another expectation of the moonbats and liberal idiots. She is no longer insisting the Democrats determine the “who’s who” list of enemies the President can fight and is simultaneously setting a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq based on conditions she can’t fully articulate, and apparently doesn’t fully comprehend.

Can there BE any more resemblance to the Majority in the 109th Congress, and the one that offers so much entertainment from the 110th?

The richness of this dessert borders on sin.

It’s ok though, they’re still talking. And talking. And talking.

They’ll keep trying to find just the right combination of shells and peas to convince their donors they are doing what they were bought and paid to do. But, even if they do, they appear incapable of agreeing with each other, a syndrome akin to the one the Republicans suffered from these last few years.

Let not your hearts be troubled. Keep the faith. We haven’t even done the first hundred days, and already the Democrats appear to be turning blue.

Man, I’m getting full already, and the trailers haven’t even finished yet. These guys can’t get out of their own way.

Hey streiff …hey Mark I…I’ll trade you guys a little cheez whiz for some of that popcorn…

The problem for the Democrats is that the American people don't buy into their basic vision for America and so they are left with getting us out of Iraq, but it's not clear that's what America wants either. America wants the war better managed, but the Dems can't do that because they aren't in the White House and they don't know how they would do it if they were!

Not just old. They are the remains left over from the McCarthy-Eagleton ticket. A bunch of old socialists, anti-war agitators and liars. The problem for the democrats is that this group of "special people" have remained in power long after the movements that elected them became outdated.

The problem for the for America is that the people voted for democrats who promised more openess and honesty in government, a strong defense, victory in Iraq through better management, and of course, lower taxes. These politicians gave the democrats the majority, but the old people running everything have been deaf to the truth for decades. Now that they have power they want to re-run the Vietnam scenario. Impeach the president, cut funding for the troops, cut off funding for Iraqi training, raise taxes, increase interest rates, bring back stagflation so these old socialists can be heros of the state once more.

We are seeing the effect of an electorate that does not know the history of the democrats, and therefor is being condemned to repeat it. I wonder if the democrats will manage to get home mortgage rates to reach 18% again

This is very well said. Thanks for the great post.

Now if the Republicans, especially the White House, can actually figure out a way to speak and actually defend themselves in partisan battles, it would be the best of both worlds!

Dick Cheney has had a nice start these last couple of weeks. (I'm not questioning her patriotism, I am questioning her judgment - that was special!) Lindsey Graham did a wonderful job on the Sunday morning talk shows. Lets hope it's not a fluke, but rather a start.

Wubbies World - The odds of hitting your target go up dramatically when you actually aim for it!

This weekend will see yet another "massive" march on the Pentagon by the usual suspects.

The timing is wonderful. America gets to see the Pelosi constituency in all its glory making idiots out of themselves as they attempt to attack war memorials being guarded by actual patriots.

Should be interesting.

While the republicans are bad, the democrats are worse. Unfortunately, we the people get screwed either way. I am kind of sick at voting in the people who are going to screw us least. There has to be better.

This is what happens when you whine and b***ch your way to power without a real plan or vision.
The Dems whole campaign has always been based on catch phrases and hollow questions (What's our exit strategy? How do you define victory?), that showed how unserious they were about issues and revealed their lack of any governing principles.
Am I surprised? No. I've got my feet planted on Earth and learned a long time ago that what comes out of most Democrats' mouths can't be believed because they don't believe it themselves.
You can't effectively govern with talking points, and I guess that reality has begun to sink in. Typical of Dems. When they have to do real work, they get unhappy.
