Flowers For Algernon...err, I Mean, Pelosi

average mouse turned genius turned average mouse-all in one session of congress

Nancy Pelosi seems hell-bent on reliving Charlie Gordon and his buddy Algernon's lives as detailed in the famous "Flowers for Algernon" novel/novella. After all, in the original piece Algernon was a dumb mouse turned genius turned dumb mouse.

Of course, in Algernon's case it was chemically induced...they don't test for these things in Congress critters so we'll never actually know if ole Nance had help along the way to her miserably failed position as Speaker of the House...but boy howdy has she returned to her original "dumb" status all the same.

I'm reminded of an old song that pays some degree of homage to the original story:

His operation made him smart
He ran the maze so good
But always had some time to be my friend
We used to race and he would win
It always made me mad at him
But he would still be nice even then

Ya know...if you replace the word operation with election, we might be ON to something here.

More below the fold...

Really Nance-$16,000.00 for flowers? Come on now. I realize it's all for the children, but 16 grand could buy a used mini-van full of 60's retreads to run off that Sheehan woman that wants your job! It could have bought a few of those folks looking for jobs Americans won't do to sneak into the Rose garden and pick some for your distinguished guests too.

From the Hill:

Pelosi (D-Calif.) spent a little more than $3 million in the first nine months of 2007, records show, compared to the $1.8 million Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) spent during the same period in 2006.
[...]
The spending patterns indicate Pelosi is seeking to restore the Speaker’s role as a counterweight to the president and reclaim some of the responsibilities Hastert had ceded to his aggressive majority leader, Tom DeLay (R-Texas). Because of their different roles, Pelosi aides say it is unfair to simply compare Pelosi’s spending to Hastert’s.

"When Speaker Pelosi took the gavel, it was an historic moment. In the days since, the Speaker has hosted leaders from across the country and around the world — opening the People’s House to the people and discussing the work of the 110th Congress," Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami said in response to e-mailed questions. "There are major new costs associated with setting up the new office of the new Speaker of the House."

'The People's House' my (expletive deleted in deference to the posting guidelines). I've never had 16,ooo dollars worth of flowers in my house. I pick a handful from the yard and hope for the best...as suggested by Boehner's people when they said this:

"They could have saved the taxpayer $16,000 by sending out an intern to pick flowers from the Capitol lawn, but I guess that would have detracted from the $4 million worth of pork they planted as part of the ‘greening’ project," said Brian Kennedy, spokesman for Boehner.

THAT, Ladies and Gentlemen, is the line of the day right there...

Does this make Harry Reid Charlie Gordon, I think the name was?

And 5 stars for the Boehner spokesman.

It's not just Pelosi, or even just the Democrats. All those idiots (save the few that I love) spend our money like it is nothing.

Well it is nothing to them. Easy come, easy go. But my husband and I bust our humps for it and they take it and waste it.

Their contempt for the American taxpayer makes me want to grab them, pinch off their heads and spit in their necks.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.
