Harry Reid Gets Mitchslapped

Mitch McConnell has just dropped a bomb on Senator Reid.
Earlier today, Senator Reid refused to allow a vote on several Republican amendments to the 9/11 Commission bill that would have actually made us more secure as a nation. Senator McConnell's response was to introduce the world to the concept of Mitchslapping.
Senator McConnell just lumped all the separate amendments into one amendment and filed for cloture. So now all those Democrats who were complaining about the GOP continuing to debate the war in Iraq at the expense of the troops will have to defend continuing to debate the 9/11 Commission report at the expense of the safety of the American people.
The McConnell amendment will:
- Make it a crime to recruit people to commit a terrorist act.
- Authorize the immediate deportation of suspected terrorists whose visas are revoked on terrorism grounds.
- Prevent the release of dangerous illegal immigrants whose home countries delay their return to their home country.
- Make it a crime to encourage terrorism by rewarding the families of suicide bombers after the bombings take place. This is not a crime under current law.
- Increases penalties for those who call families of soldiers serving overseas and falsely claim that their family member has been killed.
Let's now watch to see if the Democrats are more interested in unionizing the TSA than actually protecting the American people.

Are the things you list the ONLY things in the ommibus amendment McConnell lumped together, or are there other things the Democrats might have an honest objection to?

be considered a poison pill amendment speaks louder about the Senate Democrats than anything I could imagine.
I haven't heard of cloture on an amendment before-- how does that work?

Here is a basic explanation of cloture . In essence if you have cloture the Senate must hold a vote within a given time period.

I've always admired Mitch McConnell, and felt ripped off about being stuck with with dolts like Lott and Frist as Senate Republican leaders when the obviously superior McConnell was available. I guess preferring those guys over Mitch as leader was one more proof that Republicans are the stupid party.
It's sad we wasted our years in the Senate majority without McConnell as leader (maybe we still would be the majority), but now that we're in the minority I sure am glad we have Mitch to make the best of the situation.
Senator McConnell has done more in two months to make me happy than Lott or Frist or Hastert (remember him sticking up for "Frozen Cash" Jefferson) did in all the years we were in the majority.
His website and McConnell's have little info more than what's posted above, such as this release. You can watch Cornyn talking about it for 3 mins on the floor here.
