Harry Reid's Ethics Bill Eviscerates Earmark Reform
Conservatives Promise a Fight for Transparency

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has rewritten his signature ethics reform bill to strip it of meaningful earmark reform, a remarkable development for a Democrat who promised to clean up Washington. Text of the bill was released this morning and is available at the Porkbusters website. Senators Tom Coburn (R.-Okla.) and Jim DeMint (R.-S.C.) have promised a fight.
The chart below was put together by Coburn's office to show the extent of the changes. Meanwhile, DeMint's office says the senator will offer an amendment with his earmark reform language, which was agreed to on a 98-0 vote in January. The concern is that Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R.-Ky.), fearful of picking a fight over ethics reform, might cave in to Reid.

that whenever you take a position in the GOP Senate Leadership, the coconuts always shrink into little bb's?
Mitch does good in spots, but he's FAR from the roaring conservative lion he once was. Frist was a wuss and Lott, well, he was never a true conservative to start with, and he did nothing but play footsie with Dem leadership.
Rick Santorum was IMO a huge conservative hero. Right up to the minute he endorsed Arlen Specter against Toomey in 04, and I will never forgive that. STILL burns my cookies.
Why do conservative Senators turn into spineless occupants of leadership positions instead of actual leaders?
It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?
....ethics reform, sustaining the vetoes of the spending bills, Iraq, and the expansion of SCHIP, I will be opening my checkbook to the RNC & NRSC.

Right now my $ are going directly to individuals, plus CFG.

I hope that was satire. People like you really scare me. I think you are confusing conservativism with right-wing idealogical religious nut-cases. Stop giving conservatism a bad name by assocaiting people like Rick Santorum with it.
Real conservatives? Hard to come by in today's GOP.
Democrats = enemy? I think we should all work together. We see how Bush's fearmongering has already dividied a nation. When you resort to insults, you know thew other side has won the debate.

So, you call Rick Santorum a right-wing idealogical religious nut-case, and NOT a conservative.
If I scare you, imagine what Thomas will do to your fragile psyche.

I know you're busy monitoring the Durbin threads, but "3rdsun" apparently needs to be sunset...
...when they see me they'll say, "There goes Loren Wallace,
the greatest thing to ever climb into a race car."
sign for the upcoming election and as someone who has sworn off giving money to the RNC if they come out on this swinging and never let up I will indeed give money to them and I am choking when I say that however you must reward good behavior when the children are good:-)
... of getting into a fight.
I confess, I find all the paeans and genuflections to "bipartisanship" positively sickening.

You have already lost evangelicals and true conservatives who look for smaller gov/t and less taxes in the name of distraction, fearmongering, and corruption.
Return to the true conservative agenda and stop pandering to the right and you will win elections.
Of course, I expect insult, not intelligent debate here, as evident by the hate-filled posts above.
America = the land of hatred and division? Who knew. Thanks for nothing right-wing, you have ruined the GOP.

It used to be that you could expect people to be able to spell.

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!
You 'expect insult'. Well, maybe that's because you LEAD with insult. You also contradict yourself.
So which is it, are we 'pandering to the right' or have we 'lost evangelicals and true conserviatives'?

that are willing to lead the fight against earmarks and pork in general. Guess the other 47 are still determined to feed at the trough.
Worse, if the party can't keep out of the discretionary spending cookie jar when so many are disgusted with the earmark excesses, how can we ever hope for entitlement reform?

....to call the Democrats on the carpet on ethics and use this as a MAJOR campaign issue. Don't these guys realize why nobody is donating to the NRSC? If the GOP makes a few of these tough princpled stands, the donations will begin to flow and the Republicans will greatly increase their chances in 2008. HANG TOUGH MITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
