Liberals expand SCHIP to bring us government-run health care

Liberals in Congress are moving as quickly as they can to complete work on a health-care bill that looks a lot like HillaryCare, the government-run heath-care plan soundly rejected 14 years ago. The legislation is known as the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), and it's up for renewal this year.

Instead of just renewing the program as it currently exists, big-government liberals want to expand it to include not just kids, but also adults and even wealthy families. This bill makes a mockery of the Democrats' PAYGO rules and imposes a tobacco tax that actually counts on more people to smoke in order to generate revenue.

Watch this video to see former Rep. Ernest Istook of Oklahoma explain in less than two minutes why it's a bad idea to expand the welfare state with SCHIP.

Fact of the matter is that, for the most part, Republicans (wholesale) and conservatives (in no small part) have left the field of battle over healthcare. They/We have long conceded that there is some legitimate role for the government to be directly invested in the health insurance/care business (usually it's For The Children™).

Having conceded that basic principle, we're now really only haggling over price.

Thus, the evolution of our healthcare system into a Canadian-style disaster is inevitable - it's only a matter of do we get there before the end of the next decade (under President Clinton v2.0) or the one after that.

Mark me (and BTW it pains me to say this): 10-years from now we will be wishing we had adopted HillaryCare v1.0 10-years ago.
