If you had read the RS Insider you'd have known that was up.
The Democratic Leadership decided it was too busy to hear that the President's plan and Gen. Petraeus's leadership on the ground are actually improving the situation in Iraq.
Instead, the Dems met with union leaders and anti-war activists to plot re-implementation of the slow bleed policy by a different name.

Would be a political nightmare.
Have we sunk so low as a nation that the Democrats electoral concerns have trumped national defense? At least up until now they could make the case that they approach had at least some semblance of principle behind it.
Disturbing.

We would also like to know your advice for somebody like my daughter, who's going to graduate in two years, advice that you would give a young person.

The passive Bush Administration will doubtless roll over in response to the Democrats' absence and they get away with ANOTHER one.
Rudy would make their lives hell.
I have a hard time seeing McCain or Romney doing that.
that the surge is working and the results will be undeniable soon.
I suggest the jury be dismissed so that we can move to an immediate Article 39a Session. The Speaker-in-Law has rights.
When you violate Articles 99 and 100 of the UCMJ, it's tough to claim you support the troops.
Just saying.

No doubt the passive Bush Administration will just roll over in the face of the Democrats' absence and let them get away with ANOTHER one.
Rudy would make their lives hell, in a way I can't see either McCain or Romney doing.
Hillary would make our lives hell, but that's a story for another day. :>)
...this would make a great story. The RS Insider post didn't say they were meeting with union and anti-war people "instead". It said they "have been meeting" with those people. If it were really "instead", it would be beautiful.
...but an "instead" in the sense that the union and anti-war folks have been welcomed with open arms -- to the point that the union lobbyists were allowed to set up shop in (D) Congressional offices during the Card Check vote -- while, in contrast, Gen. Petraeus has been kept far, far away.
Erick, I don't think they were too busy--I think they did not want to hear what General Petreaus has to say, and that's not a messenger you want to shoot.
Someone might shoot back.

staff to testify in the release of seven DA's. The Justice people only had to be asked but subpoena has a nice ring to it. You know, like they wouldn't come otherwise.
Meanwhile the former DA's are coming voluntarily, invitations, no writs. And you expect the Democrats to find time for General Petraeus? This only involves a war, the hearings involve more mud. If you were a Dem what would you do?

Somehow its not surprising.
