Maria Cantwell's Alleged Child Molester [UPDATED]

Let's just be up front and honest. Were it a Republican staffer in the United States Senate, the media would be breaking into whatever you are watching on television right now to tell you about it.
How many networks will bring you this news. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) has/d a would be child molester on her payroll.
The fed's are accusing Maria Cantwell's scheduler, 28 year-old Mike McHaney, of arranging a three way with a 13 year-old boy. Luckily the third party in the three way got the police involved.
Were Mike McHaney a staffer for any one of the Republican Senators, the left and the media would be having a field day. But I won't hold my breath for that with this. Double standards and all that.
But I am amazed at this. This is Maria Cantwell's staffer. He's arranging three ways with 13 year-old boys while on the job. Did no one notice he was arranging this tryst and not working? What the heck is constituent service like in Cantwell's office for the 18 and older crowd?
BTW, the federal paperwork says "James McHaney," but his Facebook page says he goes by Mike McHaney.

We're covering it over at dailykos, too. And we're pretty annoyed about it. Yes, because he works for a Democrat. But even more yes, because he tried to molest a child.
Speaking for myself, I wouldn't have taken any pleasure in this news had it happened to a Republican staffer. I appreciate, so far, that the coverage here seems to be more about the media response, and not about glee that it happened to a Democrat.

Unfortunately, he was one of ours...
the truth is that this guy will be out on his ear with his career over in 2 seconds flat.
when is Senator Craig leaving? Oh yeah, 2009.
The media SHOULD cover the bigger story of Republican tolerance of hypocrisy.
and I'm sure the media will cover this anyway, so stop your whining.
Please, let the door hit you on the way out.
Cretin.

nice way to twist a story about a Democrat trying to hurt a 13 year old into the media SHOULD cover Republican's.
I see you all already have the talking points the media wing of the Democrat party will be using tomorrow.

Funny, I was feeling kind of sympathetic to rapidly banned dips**ts, but not right now.
The problem, of course, is that you guys are annoyed by this guy because he gets in the way of your messaging. We, on the other hand, have been very vocal about Craig because what he did was wrong.
Oh, and as for "tolerance of hypocrisy," I still find it funny that you lefties think hypocrisy is the only sin. How dare we set standards we cannot meet. We should all just descend into Pete Sanger embraced child molestation arranged on the taxpayer's dime while on the clock in the Senate.
The Democrat way of life: never letting personal standards stand in the way of a happy ending!
How homophobic of you.

They riled up every ounce of hatred against homosexuals they could, painting them all as predators on the young, just trying to tap into every lingering bit of predjudice and hate available to them.
They did everything but start a pogrom, in order to win the election. The Democratic leadership is filth. Truly evil.
The apt Republican analogy to this disgusting episode is not Craig or Vitter or Foley, but Giuliani. Giuliani keeps a credibly accused pedophile priest, Monsignor Alan Placa, on his payroll. Inexplicably, the fact that a first-tier presidential candidate hired an alleged pedophile months after the accusations were made public has received little attention in the mainstream media. Nor, I should add, have I seen it mentioned on this website.
doesn't make it so....where do you all come up with with these choice of words, do you work on them all night? and yet still they look stupid.

The press loves to use this against anyone not on the left. They'll read some wild crap on DKos, and then turn it into a question for (i.e. an accusation against) the target: "There are those who say that XXX. How do you respond to that?" They make it sound like XXX is a well-accepted fact that the burden is on the target to disprove, which is of course impossible to do.
You could indeed accuse me of being a train, although I can't possibly imagine how you could do so credibly. Words do in fact have meaning, you know.
The fact is that Rudy's pal and employee was accused of molesting children. The church itself deemed the accusations to be credible enough to warrant asking him to stop performing his priestly duties. So I don't see what's so objectionable about the phrase "credibly accused". If you think the accusations aren't credible, go ahead and make that argument. Otherwise you're just blowing smoke and avoiding the fact that Rudy seems untroubled by the possibility that somebody who works for him molests children.
of crimes -- maybe even convicted. You have friends who have been accused of sexual offenses. You have friends who are homosexual. You have friends who have committed serious crimes.
You can deny the above statements, but unless you live a terribly sheltered life, you know people who come into the above categories. We all do!

Considering where the good doctor's head was, when practicing medicine, is it any wonder that the man has issues?
So getting back to the subject of this diary, what is the difference between Senator Cantwell employing an accused child molester and Rudy Giuliani employing an accused child molester? I find both cases outrageous. The difference, in my opinion, is that we can probably expect Cantwell to fire this dirtbag now that the story is out. Giuliani, by contrast, hired Placa after the accusations surfaced. I think that makes Rudy at best a stupid politician and at worst an unethical SOB.
Are federal prosecutors going after the guy you tie with Giuliani? If not, can it and quit your threadjacking, pronto.
Cantwell's aide is said to have been caught by the FBI when he went to meet up with the supposed 13 year old boy on his lunch break. IOW, the amount of proof against McHaney is orders of magnitude greater than what see being leveled against Placa.
Stop trying to equivocate. If a Republican staffer had been caught doing this you'd be at the forefront of the mob accusing all Republicans of being molesters.
I am saying that it should be unacceptable for any politician of either party to have a reputed child molester on his or her payroll. You, on the other hand, are splitting legal hairs in such a way as to exculpate Giuliani.
The only reason Placa is not facing the same legal difficulties as Cantwell's aid is because the statute of limitations on his alleged abuses has expired.
I am saying that it should be unacceptable for any politician of either party to have a reputed child molester on his or her payroll.
In principle, I do not believe that if a person is accused of X or Y, I have a duty to assume guilt. Cantwell's guy was pretty much caught en route to hook up with his 13 year old target (who luckily turned out to be a police officer.)
That's significantly different from a "he said/she said" accusation. If a friend of mine is accused of child molestation (or any other thing) and there is no way of proving guilt or innocence, I will give the benefit of the doubt to my friend.
and an adult, an indicator of judgment which helps explain their political stupidity. Interesting as well, and as an insight into their morals, granted I'm stretching the word, they're first reaction is to charge hypocrisy against Republicans rather than disgust at the information regarding Cantwell's staffer.
You might say the slugs above, while charging hypocrisy are guilty of hypocrisy themselves, although the word, coming from a liberal[?] always has a particularly foul connotation.
