The Conundrum of Congressional Fascinations
what a great time to be an american

However mad I may be right now, I am taking a different approach in responding to the headline the New York Times is shouting from the rooftops for the enemy to see and rejoice in:
Senate Passes War-Spending Bill With Iraq Deadline
Yes, friend and foe, today is (for howEVER long my new meds last) a "way excellent" day to be an American.
More below the fold...

The jubilation on the left side of Congress today is palpable. Today, truth has been spoken to evil and corrupt power, and in the face of veto threats, they can claim victory to the millions of people they believe sent them to Washington to lose the war in Iraq...er, I mean, move the war on terrorism to where it REALLY lies - Afghanistan.
As I sit here and scour the internet looking at pictures of our Democrat Majority leadership, with all the smug and righteous indignation on their faces as they stand against this self-conjured tyranny and oppression at the hands of our Commander in Chief, all I can hear in my head is the theme song to Charlie Brown's Christmas. Work with me here folks, you KNOW you hear it too.
American Democracy has once again been exercised, and our Constitution remains intact. While events that brought us here may SEEM like a cartoon, nothing could be further from the truth.

In the wake of this short-lived victory, we find ourselves (Left v. Right) in a quandary now. Are we, the Republicans, going to be Charlie Brown here or Linus?
The Constitution was readied for this moment. The House, legally or otherwise, elected to disregard the separation of powers, and further elected to attempt a usurpation of said powers of Presidents to manage wars.
Their counterparts in the Senate have now done so as well. But, however you feel personally, this has been accomplished out in the open for all the world to see, and has been allowed by those of us that choose to participate in the political process. WE reap what we sow.
To many, myself included, this is but a continuation of the price we must pay for having allowed the GOP to bring us this far away from that which we think we elected them to do in our stead on Capitol Hill. Perhaps there are more installments due on this bill, and if so, we will continue to pay them. A quote from an excellent "guy movie comes to mind:

I have long feared that my sins would return to visit me, and the cost would be more than I could bear.
And, perhaps this is our time to be visited by ours.
What follows, after I'm sure will be a very brief haggling over which pork WILL and WON'T get agreed to, will be the presentation of this bill to the President who promises a veto. Much as I continue to support him in spite of himself, I was not willing to take streiff up on his bet due to not having sufficient money to lose.
Should President Bush choose NOT to veto this bill, our last recourse for the every-day citizen will be to try and convince our elected representatives NOT to vote for an over ride.
Stay tuned, the Constitution continues to be assaulted by the new Majority. Nonetheless, in the face of such relentless beatings, she remains intact for now.
OUR time for stopping Congress from being so fascinated with themselves is running out.
But there is still time.

Conservatives (and Presidential Candidates especially) shall offer no aid and comfort to the opposition in times of legislative conflict (and ensuing political campaigns).
but how about sharing? I am not so sanguine as you about what is going on in the Capitol looney hatch.
While I admired GWB's past steadfastness regarding the GWOT, he seems to be showing the ravages of 6 years of intense and visceral hatred by the Left and thier megaphones in the drive-by media. I worry he may succumb to some sense that perhaps afterall, it is the 'will of the people' that we abandon Iraq to the terrorists (who don't exist in Iraq in the Leftist view). How much faith and self-confidence must the man have to have come this far with seemingly the whole world arrayed against him!
As far as Congress is concerned, the radical Left, which presently has control of the reins of power, is driving us into a situation where common citizens are wondering how to get our power back. They are drunk with (presumed) power.
If GWB does not stand, we are in very deep trouble if Congress prevails in this matter. Expect much further encroachment on our rights such as gun confiscations, cedeing of power to the UN and the Gorons, out right amnesty for illegals, true forays into socialism and punishing taxes to pay for it all. They believe teh country is now thiers to shape into what they envison (shudder). Even though GWB is not a Conservative, he is an honorable man and has some roots in conservatism.
Things will likely get much worse before its gets better. With the scent of blood in the water, Pelosi/Reid/Kennedy/Schumer et.al. will throw caution to the wind and go for broke (witness the resurrection of the cadaver of the ERA).
Thank God for McConnell.
I have nothing to add except a small PSA: for a little cathartic humor, go see Frank J.'s latest IMW. the fury bubbles nicely just below the surface.
other than the snickers googling for the Charlie Brown jpegs, this was the best laugh of the day...sad as THAT is...
