Straight talk that most Americans will never hear. I should watch CSPAN more often. You go, Congressman!

Those who control energy, control society.

He nails it. Why aren't more of ours doing this.

"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it."
-Thomas Paine: The American Crisis, No. 4, 1777

where he talks about how every CFL is made in China.

After all the fear-mongering we have heard from the left about the need for closing ourselves off from trade because of lead-tainted toys from China, they are forcing us by law to use either regress to a medieval standard of living*, or use Chinese made devices in our homes that contain mercury by design?

I'm guessing that reason they all come from China because it would be nearly impossible to manufacture something so full of mercury in this country, so it must be made somewhere else with lower environmental standards. Think about that for a second. The light fixtures that are in every room of our homes are so toxic they have to be manufactured in another country. This coming from the same group of people who use scientific ignorance and lack of understanding to scare people away from using nuclear energy.

Like the Romans who lined their still-standing aqueducts with lead, I think that in 2,000 years this will be seen as a colossal mistake by our descendants who will marvel at how such an advanced civilization could be so stupid.

* Actually, I think any objective observer would be forced to conclude that is indeed their entire objective. I mean, no one is *forcing* us to use CFLs. We can always just sit in dark.

Have you added to the population of the McCain 2008 minicity yet today?

I drive a hydrogen powered car - it runs on C8H18 to be exact.

And, the left doesn't seem to mind the negative impact to the enviroment from the manufacture of these things, as long as it is in China. How about the health risks to the workers making these things? What happened to their over riding concern for workers?

Democrats: a vague approximation of integrity.

Those who control energy, control society.

is called for here.
How about a young mother and her toddler racing for the door after little Jimmy breaks one of these energy saving mandated light bulbs. That's a real scenario, unlike MoveOn's recruiting babies.
Where are outraged U.S. citizens on stupid laws like this. Out mowing with their hybrid mowers?

trying to keep her kid from being press-ganged into McCain's 100 Year Militia.

If our media had any proffesional pride they would be all over this.

We'll either see a black market for the incandescents, or a sizable number of mercury laden bulbs contaminating our landfills, or both.

Why not let the enviro conscious select their bulb and the others select their bulb?

Never mind, I know, It's all about control.

The free exchange of ideas inevitably yields both heat and light.

Congress is outlawing incandescent bulbs? Did they finish naming all the months already?

My CFL was made in China. :( Guess I'll have to look into LEDs... well, in 5-10 years when my bulb actually burns out.

This still will not cause Congress to get off there &%^% and change this bad law!

and let it break, right there while Congress was in session and C-Span was filming.

It would be really, really funny if someone could make a plastic look alike of the CFL, send it to Poe, and have him toss it up to Nancy to get a shriek.
Tim Schieferecke

Does anyone know someone who makes plastic replicas?

Now also found at The Minority Report
