Prepare to be bamboozled by lots on Global Warming.

Kudos to Ellen Degeneres for insisting that a lot of the political commentary be scrapped. But we should still expect it.

Helen Mirin gets it for the Queen. You know you're rooting for her.

NOTE TO ABC: Your pre-Oscar show sucks and has sucked for years and years. Your hosts and co-hosts are the most annoying has beens ever to be in front of a camera.

UPDATED:

I have watched the Academy Awards just about every year in the past twenty. This is truly one of the worst -- and not for the political stuff, which really hasn't been as bad as in some years (like 2004).

Ellen is not very funny. The transitional effects look cheap. The shadow people doing the stuff behind the screen are lame. It's very boring.

in past years, they put some the Supporting Actor/Actress awards up front. You had a big intro, a lull in the middle, and then the build at the end. This year, with the lame intro and nothing big, everything has petered out. There is no energy this year.

UPDATE:

Surprise! Algore won for Documentary. What do Al and Global Warming having in common? They both suck moisture.

BTW, be sure to read this by Patrick Michaels debunking most of Gore's global warming crap.

I'm personally waiting for President Al Gore's speech.

Bets on will he scream or not?

Best actor: William Powell, maybe Cagney or Gary Cooper
Best actress: Corinne Griffith or Garbo or Joan Crawford

Best film: Erich von Stroheim's Greed (1924)

Best song: Rock and Roll High School, by the Ramones

It's not meant to be a statement of any kind; rather, this is personal taste.

Bogey, Cagney, Cooper and garbo. TCM is one of my favorite channels

That was back when they actually made MOVIES... Shame that it now takes 30 film releases to get one decent movie... I haven't paid for a movie or even rented a movie in ages... What does that say about the movie industry...who knows. Maybe they are only catering to the teenagers for all I know.

the Russian film about a Soviet army company in the last months of the Afghanistan war. It was submitted as the Russian entry for best foreign film, either for this year or last year, for Oscar consideration. I don't know if it's in regular release yet but you can get it for download at memocast.com.

Hey Erik,

At least it is one of the better comedy shows... I normally do not watch, but with Algore present, I must! He is one of the better comedians - I expect a lot of laughs with my martinis!

which would tie the Super Bowl, where CBS's Jim Nance made the ONE reference and tribute to the troops.

But he had spent the weekend at Rush Limbaugh's house.

wonder if Ellen flew in from palm Beach FL?

Or does Ellen Degeneras and Hillary Clinton have the exact same haircut. I think Ellen has better bangs though.

They also like pantsuits....

Tonight is dedicated to trimming toenails. Can't afford any ingrown ones so care is needed. A 60-second recap will be more than sufficient.

"Damnant quod non intellegunt."

Alright, I expected the standing ovation when she mentioned Al Gore as being the one "America actually DID vote for," however, to what was she referring when she referenced (paraphrasing) "..all the bad talk this year about blacks, Jews, and gays." Did I miss something?

I can't get an ABC station with my rabbit-ears antenna.

how many Oscars the Dixie Twits get. For a recap, I'll just peruse the hate at DU.

Just let me know how many Oscars the Dixie Twits get.

Don't think they're nominated for any. They did win all five Grammy awards they were nominated for just recently. Maybe that's where you're confused.

Well, they already received more than they deserved!

used my *snark* tag.... Oh well, next time.

I'm pretty sure they'll win. They hate Bush, so they will be given several awards, right? Do they really need to be nominated to win? Isn't hating Bush and the evil vast right wing conspiracy jingoist neocons enough to overcome that?

Let me know if the Dixie Twits win any more. I've been watching DVRs mostly.

Am I the only one who disliked Little Miss Sunshine?!

I mean, this is a movie where the main punch line is based on a borderline pedophile's encouragement for his granddatughter to perform an exotic dance in her kiddie beauty pageant.

Watching the girl giggle and get cheered on about this all through the Oscars is bizarro.

And, did Al Gore dry clean his tux? Just wondering.

options. I working on my options trades and positions for March and April and July.

Not the Universal Achievement awards. It's a ceremony run by, attended by, and meant to celebrate those who work in the movie business. Of course they are going to give pride of place to an established Oscar nominated actor over the central subject of a documentary.

he wouldn't even have rated an invite to the event! Much less an award!

I'm glad to see that Forest Whitaker won best actor for "The Last King of Scotland." I haven't watched the film yet but, in addition to knowing how powerful and career-defining Whitaker's performance must be, it's also an important historical film. I guess it's too major a release for Hollywood politicos to play down, which I thought some might have wanted because it shows absolute power absolutely corrupting a dictator. It even portrays an Israeli victory!

We can consider anthropogenic global warming officially true.

Why?

It now has a little golden statue to go support it. So, case closed, it's true!

Or, rather, it now has a little piece of worthless Hollywood self-served idolatry to confirm that, as in the movies, it's not real.

I'm so confused. . .

(not really)

When they gave Roman Polanski a standing ovation and an Oscar.

Aside from my own, which is that at 3 hours and 51 minutes it was about 2 hours and 51 minutes too long...

But from Nikki Finke of "Deadline Hollywood" [H/T: Drudge]

By my calculations, Gore needs to reimburse the Academy and ABC for close to $3 million for this night's free and over-the-top political advertising. Just send the check directly to Barack Obama, Al, since I know you and Tipper can't stand Bill and Hillary.

...on the History channel. Best thing on TV in years.
