Warm Welcome For A Conservative At An Anti-War Rally

At first glance, this might seem more appropriately stored in the "War" category, but the fit seems much more aligned with considering the depths to which certain segments of our population have fallen purely for the self-aggrandizing need to hear themselves scream.

Should you choose NOT to play the clip, know that the guy sneaking up to the microphone is Trip Bellard, formerly of Troop Talk Radio fame. The show has been canceled. Trip, not deterred by this change in circumstances, continues doing whatever HE can to continue getting the message out about the Troops and the importance of the sacrifices they continue to make for all of us. Consider Trip's uninvited address to the screamers at this "Iraq Vets against the war" rally the latest entry in haystack's "Brass Stones Hall of Fame."

Notice how the crowd, at first, SQUEALS with delight at his opening remarks about respecting them...only to get the microphone turned off and have trash and debris thrown at him while they try to drag him off the stage...solely because he said he was a "Conservative."

More below the fold...

While "Power to the People" has LONG since become a cliche, I "get" this ranting and chanting nonsense being done in the name of hyping up a frenzied group-think in the name of entertaining these mental midgets. Railing against some greater sin committed by big brother in the name of an imperial conspiracy to launch the black helicopters and steal the brains of the sheeple is not new. The collective lack of creativity on the parts of the "dirty feet people" is very disappointing, but at least they're expressing themselves.

The irony shouldn't be lost on anyone, however, that their right to do so continues to be secured by the very same people they vilify. These people are pathetic.

The hopefulness that can be gleaned from this for the ongoing schism in today's America between the Reds & the Blues is found at the very end of the video. Here, Trip and Rev. Lennox Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus are shown arm in arm understanding and opining on the greater good of a Democracy where people can disagree...and do so with (my words) some modicum of civility.

There's that, at least.

Everyone wants to live safely and enjoy all their freedoms, but few want to do what is necessary to have these freedoms.
It is quintessential adolescence--they want all the perks of adulthood, but none of the responsibilities.

.... I saw it live last weekend and was shocked, but not really surprised, when they cut his mike off in mid-sentence...as far as I know, this is the only mention of the incident at all.

of the expanded consciousness, tolerance, and commitment to the free exchange of ideas my lefty professors told me about.

Grabbing the mike at an event you're not invited to speak at, like chanting and disrupting from the crowd, is a tactic of the left -- As is, for that matter, this week's much heralded ambush on Congressman Jack Murtha.

I'd just as soon that the right try to keep the high ground when it comes to these childish Guerilla tactics. Leave the "Truth to Power" bullcrap to the other side.

We would also like to know your advice for somebody like my daughter, who's going to graduate in two years, advice that you would give a young person.

Trying to talk sense with those people who are so far gone is a waste of time and resources. Taking the fight to spineless liberal bias in the MSM is definitely worthwhile but not at these pacifist kook events.

We need to liberate those who have a semi open mind.

as long as they agree with you politically, otherwise they are "mental midgets". Nice.

And it seems a little bit dishonest to say that he had his mic cut off "solely for saying he was a conservative". Granted, it was the final nail in the coffin, but it is obvious from the video that the people on the stage were trying to prevent him from speaking in the first place.

On top of that, he wasn't invited. I would propose that pretty much anyone, anywhere, would be cut off if they just waltzed on stage.

How is their chanting any different than the Bush's "Presidetial Advance Manual" calling for "Rally Squads" to be on hand to shout down protesters?

One is an exercise in free speach, the other is an excersize in squelching it. I'll leave it to you to figure out which is which.

if Trip had sauntered up to the microphone and started chanting Bush sucks, they would have kept him there for an hour.

The message, "sir", not the method of its delivery is what is at issue here. Group think, as in the LA riots, is a very powerful tool-used for good OR ill.

Try again, please.

I don't disagree with you. Some people really ARE loons, but as any performer will tell you, you have to know your audience.

What did he THINK was gonna happen? I don't know anything about this IVAW, but it wouldnt be a streach to assume they are no fans of the GOP.

It just seems that sometimes people try to blow things up into more than they are.

It was rude to cut him off, but it was also rude to try to disrupt a peaceful rally. It was a no-win situation to begin with.

Rudeness works both ways. An attempt was made to express an opinion by a person you don't know in an open forum where everyone is expressing themselves in an unfettered setting, free to do what "feels good" and the basic issue is not that he was cut off, but that the audience was NOT open to dialog and communication if that meant hearing what might contradict their personal opinion(s).

"Bush's war" is resisted by those who have their minds made up, regardless any introduction of any new information which might inform the populace that their opinions are misinformed. That is not democracy, and it surely is not dialog and debate. This childish behavior is mirrored in the hallowed halls of congress today, and is not what the founders had in mind.

Trip served the singular purpose of showing by doing that there is no reasoning with people who are more interested in hearing themselves scream and wallowing in the wonders of the 60's generation through some twisted nostalgia, than concerning themselves with reasoned dialog and introspection about what might TRULY be in the long term best interests of the country.

That crowd was only concerned with their PERSONAL best interests, and hearing themselves scream...and is a poster child of what's gone so terribly wrong in this country.

However, do we know that it was an open forum? I have no idea.

It could have been, or maybe there was someone else schedualed to speak. Just a thought.

You've heard of preaching to the choir? The vibe i get is that this wasn't meant to be a debate-style rally. People showed up to hear one opinion repeted over and over, they didn't hear it, and they got upset. That transcends politics, religion and ethinicity.

I'm not saying that this was a gathering of high-minded intelligent folk. I'm just saying that using this as a platform to attack and belittle all people who conciously oppose the war in Iraq is cheap politics.

you either didn't watch the video, or you are in here with preconceived notions.

The man never got any farther than to say that war was bad but sometimes war needs to be fought against bad guys. NOWHERE did he ever try to "attack and belittle all people who conciously oppose the war in Iraq is cheap politics."

Pay attention, please.

you mis-understand. I'm not referring to the video. I've seen it.

I was referring to this:

"The hopefulness that can be gleaned from this for the ongoing schism in today's America between the Reds & the Blues is found at the very end of the video."

Making the actions of the people at the event a microcosm for national politics is overblowing what happened. Its wrong to judge whole bodies of people off of a small group. Thats the extent of what i'm saying.

That i'm actually a pretty nice guy, once you get to know me.

You may not want to, thats your perogative. But you may just find that you and I agree on more than you now believe. Its unfortunate that you aren't willing to give me a chance.

One difference between lefties and righties is that lefties will interrupt for interruption sake. Civil disobedience for civil disobedience sake. Righties will interrupt to have a conversation and be heard. The guy wasn't dressed in pink.

I'm open minded. Point out where you disagree and we can talk.

LIKE I COULDN'T HAVE PREDICTED THAT RESPONSE NUMBER 2!

Mr Hinz. I've been here for 15 minutes. I disagreed with something and i'm already a punchline to you.

I'll admit I don't agree with a lot of the stuff on this site. But I also don't agree with a lot of the stuff on HuffPo. All I'm looking for is an honest conversation over whats going on in this country.

I can see you aren't interested in that. Thats fine. That doesn't mean you have to try to belittle me.

with this post! You have just followed the usual TROLL pattern of the typical dkos intruder. Now your next post will say you've never even been to dkos and you have no idea what I am talking about. You already used the "honest conversation" theme...and now I DO invoke the Hinz Rule!

Thank you for playing!

I'll play. I HAVE never been to the DailyKos. And thats the truth.

What exactly do you think you know about me? I'll tell you that I'm 22. What are my politics? Who have I voted for? Do you even care, or are you more interested in plugging your blog?

That being said, I have not done any "trolling" as you alledge.
If you aren't willing to talk to me or at least permit me my opinion, you are as bad as the people at this rally.

Sorry but you made yourself a punchline when you posted that "you support the troops" post.

But I have yet to see anybody, save the one person, try to talk to me on a factual basis.

Everybody else has simply tried to marginalize me by making assumptions. Hasn't anybody's mother ever taught them what happens when you assume? =)
