The Tax Hike Nine

The Wall Street Journal notes that at least nine Democratic House candidates in hotly contested races have endorsed an AARP plan calling for hiking Social Security taxes. The nine:

Rep. Melissa Bean (Ill.)
Bruce Braley (Iowa)
Chris Carney (Pa.)
Rep. Chet Edwards (Texas)
Phil Kellham (Va.)
Tim Mahoney (Fla.)
Harry Mitchell (Ariz.)
Ed Perlmutter (Colo.)
Patty Wetterling (Minn.)

The Journal notes that Bean (and perhaps some of the others) are now claiming they didn't realize what they were endorsing, which isn't very encouraging - I guess they just figured whatever was OK with Washington's most powerful lobbying group was fine with them. The nine are in hot water precisely because their GOP opponents did notice the tax increase proposal and wouldn't go along with it.

Maybe they should have tried the stammer-and-mumble strategy instead.

Who are these so called Democrats? Are you telling me they haven't had a lifetime's experience in how to lie?

Just off the top of my head

"I voted for that proposal so children wouldn't starve like Republicans would want to happen."

"Well obviously that was a misunderstanding/minor error in judgement/sloppy."

"I voted against that proposal before I voted for it."

"I did not sleep with that proposal."

"Unlike my opponent, I'm trying to save Social Security."

"If we weren't wasting money in Iraq... we could be funding programs for the elderly, schools for children, programs for single mothers and safe rare abortions for women 13+ years old."

"Took the nickname Troll long before BlogTrolls existed..."

Listening to Bill Bennet's show this morning I learned most the House seats needed for the Dems taking the majority involve Republican districts with Democrats running "conservative" campaigns; Ney's in Ohio, the three in Indiana and others. My thought was there would be a reckoning should they take power. If they do take power, these "swing" Congressman would either have to betray their campaign promises or cross Pelosi and company which includes the Kos crowd sometime down the road. Unlike the Senate, floor votes aren't hard to come by in the House. Either way, the cat would be out of the bag come sometime between their 06 victories and 08.

Looks like the cat may be out of the bag for nine of the desired 15 before the election. Let's hope so. Pound this one home. Make them break ranks with the AARP and Pelosi now or dig their own graves in this election, not the next. The Dems cherry picked districts to run "conservative" Democrats in with no intention of ever delivering on anything other than votes for Pelosi as Speaker.

Someone tell KOS if they win the House it will be by five seats, all Lieberman Jrs. Their party is a fraud and campaigning on lies, unless they believe their party is the message of Lieberman.
