2300 too few ballots provided to NM district of 2400

Intentionally?

Update: Here's a video report

That appears to be the case. From the Wednesday Morning QB:

At Bernalillo County precinct 603 in Albququerque's NE Heights - where there are over 2400 registered voters, [County Clerk Mary] Herrera (who is also running for Secretary of State) only sent over 150 ballots. They ran out. A long time ago.

At a press conference today, Republicans called on Dem Clerk Mary Herrera to follow election law and get ENOUGH ballots at once out to the precincts where people are being turned away. Apparently, the same thing has happened in prectint 57 on Albuquerque's west side.

Mary Herrera's office has confirmed that they made a judgement call in sending over only 150 ballots to the Republcian heavy precinct 603. The Clerk's office sent over another 250 to try and alleviate the problem - a number NOBODY thinks is adequate.

And apparently this R heavy precinct had no provisional ballots available for the voters to use...a violation of federal election law.

what congressional district is this?

Does this mean Heather Wilson is toast?

This could do it, especially if others also got shortchanged.

I live in the NE Heights of Albuquerque. I'm not in 603, but they use the same polilng place as my precinct, and their line was really long. And I'm not sure I'd call the area heavily R. About 90% of the houses in my neighborhood have Patricia Madrid signs out front.

Repubicans are too soft on this stuff. Democrats make much more noise and win the perception battle. This cannot be tolerates.

MAry Herrera:

Contact Mary Herrera at: (505)877-0789

Republican activists, press and lawyers should stand up and she should be warned of the consequences of her coruption. Fight.

Wilson is not toast - this is clearly the stuff of lawsuits. And it would seem those suits would be more than mere grandstanding.

What's not clear to me is, why on earth was there a judgment call to be made? Why aren't there enough ballots to cover 100% turnout? Is there no law requiring that the state print up enough ballots to go around?

And seemingly, every time you see a story about truly stupid election planning, it's a Democrat who's at the helm (see the butterfly ballot in Florida 2000, Democrat election officials in Cuyahoga County Ohio in 2004, etc.).

Wilson is far from toast and will carry this district. The GOTV effort is in full swing and her opponent totally tanked in the one an only televised debate. It's a tough fight and this setback doesn't help, but Heather has outcampaigned her opponent hands down.

If there are 2,400 registered voters in that precinct, 150 ballots would only be good enough for a 6.25% turnout. Is the Dem clerk that stupid, or did she plan for this to happen?

"Sorry--Republican precincts can't vote!"

The bad news: Conservatism is hard to sell. The good news is that it works.

Here's more info on the story. Looks like some additional ballots showed up and they called people to come back and vote.

What is the Secretary of State’s office talking about when they "blame the county clerk for not providing enough inventory"?

All I would like to clearly state is ..."Just follow the law." I'm in California and when our former Govenor Davis in a recall election attempted this very same trick.

The Secertary at the time of recall, Sec. of State Shelly had to leave office in disgrace due to other activies he was involed in came about.

Personally I'm not suprised....it's the illeagal voting, the signing up of convicted felons, the accepted lowered ID standard, and now short number of ballots...some people just want to win at any cost....if the shoe fits wear it...(it's not Congresswoman Wilson's shoe)

*I know I do not preside in the state of New Mexico, but I was considering attending college out there....Anyway I just called the Sec. of State Mary Herrera's office and I only got an answer machine...mmm.

In the end though it 's quite interesting when Ohio, Flordia Missouri, and LA. dating back to the mid-1990's those various sectary's of states had the courage to extend the hours to keep the polls open and in some cases allowed the feds to investigate.

Please just take responseablity Sec. of State Herreara ...it does matter who's fault it may be..."Just follow the law."

By the way thank you for all you that may read this.

-lbjgal *Please excuse any spelling and/or grammer errors.

Voter intimidation should be added to the list. I have been personally been intimdated in here in California.. I'm a person of color who has independent mind..put the pieces together.
