AK Gov: Palin Crushing Knowles

Fresh off the Rasmussen presses (still behind the pay wall), it appears that Sarah Palin is handily defeating the most electable Democrat in Alaska, 52-38. Tony Knowles has the name recognition and general favorability, and couldn't beat an unpopular nepotistic appointee in the Senate race. It's still early, but it appears that he also cannot beat a relative unknown, so long as that unknown is a Republican.
Alaska has always been a relatively safe place for Republicans, but this may indicate that they are officially bulletproof. I remain ambivalent about going after Linc Chafee in Rhode Island, but I'm thinking that an organized campaign to oust Ted Stevens in a primary may be in order next election cycle.
UPDATE: As noted on crosstabs, this is the second poll that confirms Palin having a huge lead over Knowles.

By personal theory for NE is that Hagel will not seek reelection in 2008. Johanns knew that an opted for a stint as Ag secretary to run in 2008 rather than face Nelson.
his over my dead body speech on the "bridge to nowhere" was some of the better political drama of the past year, IMO. yeah, he's one of the bigger pork supporters out there, but I don't think he's done anything to deserve organized opposition from Republicans
Hagel though, you can run out of town on a rail with most of the Democrats.
I hate pork as much as the next guy, but even I wouldn't want Stevens out of the Senate. As annoying as he is on the pork side, he is useful to us in the Senate. The only Senator I really want to see out of a job is our pal Lincoln from Rhode Island. He deserves to lose his seat just for not voting for Bush in 2004, if nothing else.

has something in the recent series of raids on legislators, Ben Stevens among them, and companies, Stevens is invulnerable if he wants to run.
Nobody seems to know what the FBI is really about with this, but many view it with fear and trepidation. It says something that a new US Attorney was just appointed, apparently without the "advice and consent" of the AK delegation and next thing you know, doors are being kicked in, figuratively of course.
Those raids didn't just go for the jugular of AK Republican politics, they went to the aorta. Nobody yet knows what, if anything, they have.

Ted Stevens is invulnerable unless his pork has gotten him into some ethical quid pro quo trouble somewhere - which wouldn't exactly be surprising.
Sarah Palin seems more conservative than either of Alaska's senators. She may very well be a welcome addition to the U.S. Senate some day in the not so distant future.
who would consider themselves ahead of her in line; we'll see how many are left standing when the US Attorney and the FBI are done. If she is successful against Knowles, she will have proven herself a formidable political figure on her own because she had very little support from the established politicos in the state and is openly at war with the chairman of the Republican Party. Hopefully, we can all join ranks and get on with defeating Knowles, but I never underestimate Alaska Republicans' capacity for self destruction.

Lindsey Graham should be top on the list of replacements in the R primary process. South Carolina can do much better.
The replacement Republican would do great in the general election there just like in AK.
The way to improve Senate performance is to improve the set of Senate Republicans.
Lindsey Graham has got to be the No. 1 target of the conservative movement. Come on South Carolina, give us a U.S. Sen. Thomas Ravenel in 2008!
I would send money to any serious candidate going after Lindsey Graham. He is a disgrace to the Republican party. There is no reason we should have to put up with someone like that from South Carolina of all places. Maybe Rhode Island or Maine, but not South Carolina. Come on.
Once he is officially out of the Senate he will have more time to find that elusive first wife.
Sarah Palin seems to be a pretty conservative Republican (a relative rarity amongst GOP governors on the West Coast) from what I've gathered. We want to keep this governorship Republican. Amongst other reasons, Ted Stevens is well into his 80s and it would be a sorry day if a Dem got to fill his seat.
On another note, I noticed that GOP Governor Rick Perry of Texas is strongly favored for re-election in a just-released poll. All of this makes me wonder about the veracity of this 'anti-incumbent' 'anti-Republican' wave that the MSM keeps raving about . . .

seem to be good primary targets. Although I don't know how much baggage Stevens has in AK, it's the rest of the country that doesn't like him. In NE, however, Osbourne, Johanns and Ricketts would all be in a good position if they wanted to challenge Hagel.
