IN-08: Hostetler (R) loses (Dems + 1)
IN-02 and KY-03 go Democratic (Dems +3)
Updates by Adam C:
9:35 - Close races to be watching are VA-02, FL-16, KY-04, GA-12 and GA-08. The last two are Rs best chance to pick up a seat which will not happen in any Senate seats.
9:45 - FOX calls FL-13 for Buchanan (R). This was Harris' old district and a chance for a D pickup.
10:15 - OH-18 goes to Space (D) on FOX. I'm calling VA-02 for Drake (R). PA-10 goes to Carney (D). (Dems +5)
10:20 - IN-09 called for Hill (D) making 3 Indiana losses for the Rs. (Dems +6)
10:30 - NH-02 called for Hodes (D) over Bass. (Dems +7)
10:35 - PA-07 drops Weldon for Sestak (D) and CT-05 drops Johnson for Murphy (D). (Dems +9)
10:50 - NC-11 puts in pro-life, pro-gun Redskin Heath Shuler (D) for Taylor. NY-24 also flips D. (Dems +11)
11:00 - FL-16 (Foley) goes D. AZ-08, OH-06 also go D. (Dems +14) Next one flips the House.
11:01 - FL-22 goes D. I project a DEMOCRATIC house on this data.
11:10 - NY-26 keeps Reynolds (R). Gillibrand picks up NY-20 from Sweeney. (Dems +16)
11:25 - Delay loses Rs a seat in TX-22 according to FOX. (Dems +17)
11:40 - I'm calling NY-25 for Walsh (R) and OH-15 for Pryce (R), each a hold with 99% reporting and the incumbent at 51%. I'm also calling NY-29 for Kuhl (R) with 97% reporting. Another hold.
11:45 - PA-04 flips to D. IL-08 stays D. Leaving only the two GA seats as real pick-up opportunities. If Rs lose there, they will not pick up a single House, Senate or Governor seat. (Dems +18)
11:55 - AZ-05 ditches Hayworth for Mitchell (D) according to CNN. NH-01 also flips D which makes a clean sweep of NH from 2 Rs to 2 Ds. (Dems +20)
12:10 - IA-01 and KS-02 flip. (Dems +22)
12:40 - Rs hold IA-03, MN-06. (Dems +22)
12:50 - Rs hold IL-06. NY-19 flips. (Dems +23)
1:05 - I'm out for the night. Ds are up 23. There are about 10-15 more races that could be flip. And of course there are still the 2 GA races that could go R, although it is unlikely.

Michael Barone reports 6-8 point D advantage in exit poll results vs. actual tabulated results from precint exit polls were taken in. Fox will not rely on exit polls to call races from her on out. Barone doesn't mention races already called. Will Fox pull their call back in close races?

Looks like the losers in the House races are mostly the moderates.
While I will rue the loss of the House, which seems increasingly likely, I would say that there are a lot fewer "moderates" in the Republican caucus. It bodes well for a real leadership shift come January.

I didn't say that no conservatives were being lost.
But losing republican conservatives in red districts (and a conservative Santorum in a purple state) still hurts.
At any rate, a "purer" party with less moderates doesn't help us if we're in the minority. Look at how the netroots shot themselves in the foot with Joementum.
I get your point. Thanks for the clarification.

Just looking for something to hang my hat on as the results roll in and are not making for a happy night.
If we can do what McCain talked about on Fox then we can take something away from this. He talked about 1976 - losing the WHite House and Congress and coming back strong in 1980. He said that Republicans need to sit down and figure out how to get back to conservative principles - smaller government, lower taxes, less regulation. If that happens, then perhaps we will have learned well from tonight, rather than learning the wrong lesson.
In fact I'm not depressed at all (but still disappointed).
I see many lemonades tomorow.
1. An easier road for 2008 because the dems will over-reach and make fools of themselves.
2. An easier road in 2012 because in that cycle the dems will be defending a great amount of senate seats.
3. A target rich environment for talk radio (ie Rush) to excite the base with at least two years of bashing the dems instead of a wishy washy majority.
Yes my friend, we don't have to gnash our teeth and beat our chests like the dems do when they lose. We can smile our devious smile and lay in wait.

Those inside the tent or those outside the tent?
I just did my perfunctory congratulations speech...my knee-jerk reaction is to suggest we go after those inside the tent.
On second guess, I may suggest the tent itself is the problem though. Use the "buying a new house" thought process when you buy an OLD house. you find the leaks and cracks and electrical and plumbing problems..gut the place, and ultimately start from scratch...perhaps this is what we wake up to tomorrow.
My vengeful self, however, wants to take out the rinos and incumbents still left standing after tonights ritual sacrifice...they all need to get out of the way to make room for those that truly bow in humility to the privilege and honor of serving US...we shall see if such a pol exists after this night..
At the very least, we need to look very closely at who got us into this mess in the first place...they need some iced pasta salad...

no matter how the votes come out tonight
Ignore what the main stream media says, especially between elections. Its easier to ignore what they say when we are a down-trodden minority, which too many of the "mainstream" conservatives that loathe Christian conservatives and Neo-cons, are comfortable being. As a minority, we need to learn one lesson. That we hate being the monority and we will not settle for it. Our country's future is at stake, and we need to fight the democrats on moral terms as if we truly believe the country's future is at stake. And then, once we re-gain the majority, we need to remember how we won it and act on our conservative values, no matter what the MSM says, incl what their bogus polls say.
We have to fight with passion, and that mans calling the dems out for their unpatriotic speech and for their anti-judeo-christian values.
And we must be blunt about it.

And lastly, act like conservatives, dammit.

All that you have suggested was told to these fools in the run up to this night.
It is pretty clear at 11:40 pm est what this night brings us, and most of us knew it even though we didn't want to admit or accept it. C17wife is right, war it is...and you, and me, and her, and a lot of the other old regulars here are game...
There is MUCH to do, but we are gonna have to bleed for quite a few weeks and months as we go forward. In the meantime, they are going to raise taxes and defund the war...and we have men and women in theater.
This is going to get a whole lot uglier...it's not just learning lessons and regaining majorities with newfound humility. We have our kids in harms way and we can't let them take this up their....well, you get my point.
There is a lot of hell to be paid, and we got checkbooks lining up to start paying...
It's gotta be game on...now, today, this very moment, and it's our troops that need to be the focus. This can not be tolerated.

We must build an Andrew Jackson spine in Dubya. He is going to have to get down in the mud now in order to fulfil his duty to the Constitution, the country and the troops. He is going to have to quit being nice to the aiders and abettors of our enemies and giving the cold shoulder to his own in the congress. He is going to have to call a spade a spade. The dems have emboldened our enemy just for this moment. The blood on the dems hands must be made an issue.
We must play the PR game like Clinton did during the givt shutdown.
We can put the troops' families on the air. Only the Pres can order the troops home. He must not. If the dems cut off money, lets get troops' spouses and mortgages on tv!!

we can do a modern day tea party...we boycott the IRS and refuse to pay our IRS bills in April and let's see how many of us they can come after.
How many IRS agents are there? How many Soldiers and Soldier families? How many of US? Heck, I'll gladly start the class action...you can litigate it!

Note that in the results there (close so far), Brazoria county isn't counting her votes yet. It could very well be even as of right now with 11% in.
It's too early to call this one. There are still too many votes for her oustanding.
In CT, Shays looks safe, we could lose 2 there.. VA2 seems safe, with a 5000 vote lead, 4%. The two Georgia seats look like pickups for us. In Ohio Schmidt & Chabot seem OK. In New york we will lose a couple but hold a couple . In PA, though, we have 5 Rep incumbents all trailing. This is partly due to poor candidates egSherwood & Wheldon, but also to weakness at the top of the ticket. In the west it looks better for us.

Fox has the Dems at about +10 in the House in terms of called races. Meanwhile, CNN's website only shows a 5 seat change (plus the "Indy" Vermont seat moving to Dem). What's the deal?
Not sure, maybe they have some uber secret in to calling early, but the reality is I think they want to come out with those "Fox news was the first to call blah blah blah race"
Reminds me of when I lived in SC and there was a really close senate race and one of the stations called the race for the guy who lost early in the evening and had to change the call. Two days later we had the "Blah blah news was the first to call the senate winner" which made me laugh, because while they were the first they were also wrong.
Is going to win. I am in complete shock.
We lost Sodrel and Bass and won Pryce. Wow.

"I am a great believer in luck. The harder I work, the more I have of it." -- Thomas Jefferson
he has always won by huge margins here in NH.
But I also admit I don't think he is much of a loss other than in the general numbers, but the good news is that maybe a better GOP candidate can run against Hodes and take the seat back in a couple of years. The war in Iraq is probably what has hurt him the most, because otherwise he is pretty much a pure RINO, but Hodes hammered him on the war, and a lot of people up here are pretty peeved at the war. I am kind of hoping the guy who ran against him in the primary back in '04 might give it another whirl, he was a good conservative candidate, but he couldn't fight the incumbancy.
but now both Burns and Collins are behind. Still votes to count...

This coverage is difficult to watch. I project a country that will not like what it has done 2 yrs down the road. Pelosi as House Maj. Leader will cause a hopeful downfall of the Dem's in 08.
That's justice. Thank God people in Reynolds' district had the sanity to reelect him. It's not going to change the tide but Reynolds didn't deserve to lose.
All the repulicans had to do was act like the conservatives they ran as years ago. Instead they've been idiots and now we're losing to these numbskulls. They bought the liberal media hype and so did the public.
It's a bad day.

This is what happens when pubs act like libs (spending) the war of course plays a part, but hey, why vote for someone that spends like a lib when you can have the real thing?
Yahoo deleted my ability to post on their discussion boards due to the fact that I'm overtly Republican.
Oh well...
The Dems, with their majority in the House, will now in effect start the dismantaling of America. They WILL pull our troops out of Iraq. They WILL invite attacks here on American soil, and they WILL more then likely, start Impeachment hearing on President Bush. Not to metion they will also in effect, grind our Government to a halt.
Great.
The only good that will come out of this, is that they will have NO chance in '08 or ever again, at least in my lifetime and I'm 43.
Truly a sad day for America, and I'm not ashamed to say that right now, I'm sheading tears. Nothing good will come out of this, so I hope that all Americans who voted Democrat will remember what will happen from here on out and never forget.
Bush is still commander in chief. He call the shots regarding the military.
From the looks of the elections and polls. It looks to me like people aren't really sharing your vision of America.
Buck up Tiger.
Right now on Fox we're listening to the fact that one of the lead-pipe cinch results of this is a "comprehensive immigration reform bill" that will do everything the Senate version of the bill wanted -- and it will go further.
Whoever cast a protest vote tonight for whatever the reason have just thrown "enforcement first" on immigration down the rathole. Consider that idea completely gone forever and ever and ever. Buh-bye.
Tear down all the fences and watch as the Southwest is given back to Mexico in bits and pieces.
Again, I'm sheding tears for America...
If we're stuck with a Dem House and a tight Senate, I don't think it would be impossible that the conservatives in the Senate would try to filibuster any attempt to ram through "comprehensive reform."
propaganda to the contrary.
Unfortunately, we will have to crawl through glass to get Harriet Miers through the confirmation process now because of that and similar insanity.
Kowalski. As a matter of fact, as I watched FOX I couldn't help but notice a little glee in the eyes of the likes of Bill Kristol amd Fred Barnes about the prospects of a Democratic Congress re "comprehensive immigration reform." Not that anyone will listen to the likes of them after tonight, mind you.
thankfully. Kilroy was as horrible to listen to as Madrid in NM and Casey in PA.
Light a candle for Jeb Bradley (NH-01), a true moderate Republican that fought tirelessly for our veterans and for his constituents, he will be missed :(
If it becomes apparent that people not voting in protest are the reason the House was lost...I'm gonna control my anger about this ridiculously dangerous method of protest, point my finger at the Repubs in the House and Senate and say, "Ok, i don't agree with those guys, but it happened, now learn your fracking lesson and act like a conservative!"
Argh. I'm so upset.
Imagine a world with no hypothetical situations....
The biggest losers tonight are everyone in the Republican blogosphere. Brit is trying to put a nice spin on it but it's pretty clear that the established players think of everyone in this medium as a bunch of dilettantes in pajamas. The fact that I just heard that on Fox News tells me that we have a long way to go before we're taken seriously. Right now bloggers are still a kind of nettlesome curiosity, viewed as a bunch of amatueurish gripers and disgruntled children.
That's pretty much true regardless of who you talk to in the media, left or right.
Kondracke (smirking smugly): "There are MILLIONS of them..."
I almost blew right past this...and I am glad I caught it.
Think about it for a sec. The smug, down their nose attitude about us is precisely because we are the threat to them. The Kos koolaiders are of the same ilk, so it is no wonder they want to slap us down.
When Moulitsas and the gang lost in '04 they were disgruntled whiners too...but they are from the same cloth as the MSM...we are out to get them.
I am ok with the pat on the head and the instruction to go home til I grow up because their days are numbered...so let them think this highly of themselves a little while longer
What we do in life echoes in eternity.

at least to me, losing not only Kolbe's seat in Ariz but also JD Hayworth has lost.
On the other hand, both Calif seats look good, also Heather Wilson in NM.
The worst thing about the immigration comprehensive bill is that Bush will sign it.
I move we start with the illegals orchard workers infesting the Pelosi orchards in California.
I am no defender of Republicans, like Ney, that were ousted and tried and convicted for corruption but...
Rep. Jefferson of Louisiana, he of the the $90k in the freezer, is actually leading in his district! What!?!?!? Pretty ridiculous.
Yes, this is getting downright painfull....... as far as dollar bill Jefferson, he was endorsed by N.O. mayor Nagin who was also re-elected after all the katrina fiascos. Nothing changes down here, just which idiots in charge.

Wow. Virgnia ours. Missouri ours (all remeining votes are heavily democratic from StL and KC). Montana? Sure, why not...Tester killing up there eary on.
Now you can being to understand what it feels like to lose an uber-tight race as we did in 2000. Get your U of Virginia lawyers ready...it's gonna be ugly when Gerogie boy refuses to step aside. At least Gore had the decency of stepping aside relatively quickly.
THE BUSH MANDATE IS OVER AND ALL IS WELL IN THIS COUNTRY...we need to lose Rummy by x-mas, though.
Clearly, you want to have a confrontation. Fine: here's one.
Here I am. (Spreading arms) Contributor to the site, former Democrat, dreaded 'neocon'... I stand before you, and I tell you, freely and without hesitation: you won.
Yes, you won. You beat us in the House, and there's a very good chance that you may beat us in the Senate. No question. So. Say your piece. Let it all bubble out; all your hate, and your pain, all your fear. Say it to me. No tricks, no games. You won't get banned for it. Let all the ugly bits out.
And the best part is? At the end of it, I will forgive you for what you say to me, because you and I are both children of God, and that's what I'm supposed to do, or else my faith is a sham. In a way, that may be why you're here; to remind me that forgiveness must always be possible, no matter how terrible the crime done.
Just remember, that when you're done, you have to take that all back within yourself. Because what is not happening here is that I volunteer to be your sin-eater. Whatever comes out is yours, and you will have to deal with it.
So, please. By all means.

But alas, you are probably right.

I'm just gloating a bit but I dont think I've insulted anyone here. Are you kidding? Brining Jesus into a little blog banter? How arbitrary and ridiculous. I realize you kids are a bit testy tonight but I hope simple perspective and common sense will prevail when you realize Bush is still in power...and he's dusting his trusty veto pen as we speak. Oh and I'm no in the market for a 'sin eater', I already have a dustbuster and a sence of humor. Humor....remember what that is? I'm sure El Rushbo is aleady writing some new Pelosi material...maybe that'll lighten you ppl up a bit. For now, I'm gonna watch the talkng heads at Fox predict the end of the world. Poor Brit...I thought he might heave on air. I forgot how much I love this country. Thanks for reminding me Moe.
Cheers
Borat
But now that it's been established that you aren't going to take me up on my offer, please understand that you're going to have to act with a bit more basic respect towards your hosts and fellow guests in the future. We are having a bad week, and would appreciate the consideration.
I'm afraid that this is really non-negotiable.
The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC.
and like a typical liberal, you are too pompous to see or acknowledge it.
Arbitrary and ridiculous? How much more offensive can you be?
Contrary to what you might think, Jesus is very appropriate on a night like this. Because it is only through the love of Christ that I am refraining from telling you to do exactly what Dick Cheney told Patrick Leahy on the Senate floor.
And by the way, this isn't your house to gloat in. You have pissed all over the carpet and now it is time to get out.

Jack, you are really reminding me of a cock rooster with no hens at the moment.
The strutting, though unnecessary, is quite consistent with the antics of the children in your party of late.
I rather admire your testicular fortitude coming in to our little wake and b-slapping the corpse, but honestly...where is the pride, honor, and dignity of your victory?
Do you represent the opponent with whom we look forward to the next round of debate and civil discourse? If so, I scarcely believe your status can possibly last.
Much the same as the teens left to care for the house while the grownups go away for the weekend, I fear you will burn your own house down before we get home to give you the match...such immaturity should not be what you want us to plan for in the coming months...really-
go home, sleep off your little jubilee, and come back for a little grown up talk...maybe Moe will let you sit at the "big" table this thanksgiving...watchya say?
